Well even though we have had all this time off ive only just opened the bonnet on the S3 but ive surprised my self and done quite a bit.
Fitted my Badger 5 TIP which was not as bad as i thought
then i dusted off the Catch can that i got in the group buy ages ago. This was a little more tricky and took me most of today
Then the last job today before i jump in the hot tub for the evening was to replace the dipstick and dipstick tube which had started to break up a bit so it was only right to change it.
Last job which i wont get done today but i got all the worst jobs done is an Oil change but i can do that one evening after work.

On doing the catch tank i found the little 90 degree bend under the manifold was split and had a huge hole in it so very hapy that i finally got round to doing that.

Took the S3 out afterwards and OMG what a difference.

Time to go out hunting some porkers!

let us know how the porker hunting goes!
i bet you'd like to see the difference the badger5 tip has made on the dyno now. i can imagine some good gains on your high spec'd motor

Did you vent the can to TIP or atmos steve? I've found my car has been running so much better venting to atmos an I might do some CCDs logs this week to see if anything has actually improved.

Vented to tip although i dont think my hocky puck works are they ment to be a one way valve?

Yeah one way mate. Mine was a brand new one that I bought from the stealers last year and it had bent under the pressure of the twisted oil hose and the heat which nackered it. Since I blocked off the tip hole for the hockey puck and vented to atmos the car feels much better. I think this is due to the puck not working as a one way valve.

Venting all the way.

Westle where have you got yours venting?

So whats the smell in cabin like westle? Ive got mine venting furhter down than yours, its venting under the passenger side next to the wishbone and i still get a faint wiff of vapours etc.

Really? Mines been fine, not had any fume smells at all.

Since venting to atmos I've done about 200 miles of different driving and sitting in traffic and there's been no smell at all.

Yeah, i get a slight smell, had to explain, i only get it if sat with the blowers on, without the blowers or when moving theres nothing.

Just ordered a filter on ebay so will fit that when it comes only thing i need to find is something to blank the hose on the TIP. As my catch tank is mounted down by the battery i think ill run a hose down near the bottom and put the filter there!

Yeah, same, however I don't use a catch can. You only get it when stationary as the heat from the bay, and thus the smell, rises out from the back of the bonnet and into the pollen filter...

Yeah it was a fun day although bending into a engine bay gave me nasty sun burn on my lower back which i found when i got in our HotTub set at 39c so it came as a little shock. Well ive ordered the blank and filter so will get them done this week. Next project is the audio. Having just had rear speakers for 3 months is doing my nut in.

Hasnt the ecu accounted for the breather system in the intake though, as it is after the MAF, so could be running slightly rich?? if you know what i mean, its obviously a fine balance hence the need for a closed loop DV....maybe bills thoughts on that one?

Bill plus a few others recommened open vent to me dave, the car does love it, just pulls better, hard to explain.

BILL where are you??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

there should be a request bill button that notifies him. orrr, linked to a huge batman style torch around his area that projects the face of a badger, that would be cool

I was worried about this but a lot of the golf boys have done it on their 1.8Ts with no issues so I just went for it. The car does feel smoother and I've also got a louder turbo woosh but that might have been due to the shagged hockey puck not doing it's job properly!

even louder turbo sound? oh god i feel sorry for the people walking down the streets hehe

Immeasurable, and irrelevant to me
its only re-breathing its fumes for emissions purposes

It would be good to do logs with the breather intact, then vented....so your saying there will be a gain in doing this? May have to look into venting into the wheel arch area then the fumes should disperse rapidly

This has been working well for me after EVAP deletion, that's where the EVAP system vents to on the S3.

Cool well the filter turned up today just waiting on the blank for the tip know.

Yes i have. I will take some photos once i get the filter and plug fitted

I was lazy mines bolted to the side of the battery box as it was really the only place for it so i could get to it easy to drain.

I'd like to see pics of that Steve. I like where mine is, it's nice and secure and is easy to drain it's just the hose route that is a bit of a pain though it is better now i'm venting to atmosphere.

Well i did a bit more today changed the oil and filter and while the front end was up on the stands i decided to take the wheels off and clean it up a little.
