Anti-corrosion warranty results - Please post here

Latest update. Audi have said it is a paint defect (poor adhesion). Surely this was at manufacture, nothing I could have done about it. A few other avenues to explore I think

Just back from getting the corrosion assesed. Guy said that he would get back to me within a week but advised that the bubbling on the rear quarters probably wouldn't get done under warranty as it was zinc inclusion. WTF! Zinc inclusion occurs if the zinc is not washed off properly prior to the galvanizing process so to me this is obviously a warranty issue. Looks like I'm going to have a bit of a fight on my hands with this particular dealership.

Just had small blisters seen to on my 04 A3 by a guy from the Audi body shop in Aberdeen. He had a quick look and said that this was "Zinc inclusion" and is only covered under paint warranty not corrosion warranty therefore this would not be covered. Seems to be there favourite excuse here! Im Furious.

I have sent a email to BBC Watchdog and Sunday post Raw Deal, nothing to lose. I am only sticking to the facts. I spoke to trading standards and if you bought the car from a dealer (within 5 years) you claim under the consumer act. It may mean taking them to court. I am just not prepared to accept thier excuses without a fight. Perhaps if more people were to high light the issues to the likes of Watchdog, Audi would be a bit more willing to accept blame, but it is really up to you. I am not giving up easy

Just heard from the bodyshop in Aberdeen that Audi are only prepared to cover 70% of the repair cost which is b******t!!
The bottom of my drivers door is rotten! Surely it is either warranty or not, how can it be 70% warranty?

2000 S3 - Rust on roof rails (under paint)

DECLINED - on the basis that it is apparenlty a paint defect... REALLY!? But as a 'good will' gesture will cover 70% which will be £270 odd... yeh ok... I have had a quote of £100. I think I know which I'll go for!!!

i had my car in at Audi last week and i asked them about the roof rails on my 8L S3 and they took photos and did a report and sent it off and im just waiting to hear back.

although the guy did use the phrase good will gesture when mentioning cost but didn't mention a price, so it doesn't look like there planning on doing mine for free :-(

Well it has definitely been declined. Poor paint adhesion at the manufacturing stage. Audi thinks this is ok for this to happen and can happen to any car apparently. I think i will go and buy a 10 year old Fiat, the paint will be better than Audi's. I have started a Facebook campaign to warn others how poor Audi are.

Point 1 you have a clue

Point 2 you dont

That rust that you see is only been visible for a month, since the paint fell off. Believe what you want but I know what happened "poor paint adhesion" ie, from new!!!!!

Lol its not up to me to believe anything, im just pointing out it looks like neglect from the 1 picture you have posted, i dont work for Audi and i wish you would have got a result.....sorry mate

ive recently brought an 8l a3 and noticed this rust on passenger side roof rail while polishing it. just found out about the warranty and found this thread. has anyone had work approved with mods? as ive only just fitted coilovers the day i found the rust and was told about the 12 years!
ive been told my local audi in bury st edmunds can be real stuck up gits so cant see me having much luck. cars 2002 2 owners but ive only had it 2 months but it was a lease car i believe so has had loads audi service history etc
thanks in advance

My 2000 A3 is going in to be assessed by Aberdeen Audi at lunch time today. I'm not expecting a satisfactory result though as Aberdeen Audi think that they are untouchable due to the sheer volume of Audi's that are on the road in this area.
A colleague of mine went to buy an A1 recently and tried to haggle a bit with the salesman who promptly told her that there was no deal to be had as Audi's sell themselves in Aberdeen and he didn't have to sell to her as someone else would snap it up within hours. If you see the number of Audi's on the road up here, I would tend to agree with the salesman.

I had my 2007 Audi A3 assessed at John Clark's bodyshop last Monday, after having picked it up from Specialist Cars VW on March 1st, then realising that 3 of 4 wheels arches were beginning to rust. My boyfriend used to be a sprayer so he had a look at it and realised that the front wings have been painted previously - very badly.

I am waiting for them to get back to me - boyfriend has been on the phone a couple of times and they said they will get back to me today or tomorrow so now they have until lunchtime tomorrow and one of us will be on the phone to them again.

I am NOT accepting this on a 4 year old car - if they decide they aren't repairing it, they can have their car back! I am worried that they will refuse to repair it as it has clearly been painted before... Let's watch the space!

just for info.

Chelsey Allott has been on it for me and very friendly she is too. She has arranged for me to have my car assessed at Newton Abbott. problem is that the paint guy is helpfully only in on wednesday and always takes his lunch break which means that i have to take time of work. won't give me a courtesy car either. Anyone else think they are trying to make it hard?

i honestly believe if i rocked up in my car they would tell me where to go as it needs a full repray really and they would think i was taking the pee.

not sure if to bother or not really. If it was the weekend i would, but its not...

Steve

edit:i'll take a snap later and see what you guys think.

Just got a response from Audi, seems to be their standard response now:

Thank you for your email, please accept my apologies in the time it has taken to respond.

After investigating your case, the initial contribution of 70% will be final. The reason for this is due to the fact that the repair needed is a paintwork defect rather than corrosion, as you are aware paintwork warranty is only for a period of three years which has now expired. However we are offering 70% to assist our loyal customer's with the repair cost.

Each case/customer is looked at on an individual basis and for this reason I am unable to discuss previous offers made.

Photographs and full reports are sent through to our warranty department who asses all the information and will make a decision based on their technical expertise and decide whether this is a warrantable repair or not.

When a repair is not covered Audi will look at customer loyalty and the age and mileage of the vehicle to establish whether a goodwill contribution can be made.

I understand this is not the response you were hoping for.

Kind regards

Getting 2 new wings fitted on Monday, not by Audi, I am not paying them to correct their poor workmanship

I took my 51 plate s3 down to coulsdon audi around 3 and a half weeks ago to get their warranty man to have a look at some small bubbling (about the size of a small pea) beginning to appear on the roof rails, one each side. I got a phone call yesterday saying that audi are prepared to pay for 70% of the repair out of good will but due to the age and millage of the car i will have to pay 30%. Having told them that the car is still well within its 12 year warranty and the millage was irrelevant i was then informed it was only a 10 year anti corrosion warranty on my car!? Either their warranty man is very stupid and doesn't know the warranty that came with my car or, as he didnt flag up this minor point when he inspected my car, they are just trying to riggle out of paying out for a warranty claim on a car they are unlikely to make any more money on.

At the time i didnt have the cars paper work with me so i couldnt be sure if it did or not but i told him i was not going to except that anyway because the car is 9 not 10. As a result he is emailing audi to forward my response... Watch this space

Ill post the conclusion as soon as i hear anything.

Blimey, I've had mine done twice. once in 2007 and once last year with all the mods done. Passenger side done first and drivers side done last year.

I feel for the people getting turned down but I had it all done no questions asked. Was told it would take a week to do and was given a brand new S Line A4 to smoke around in whilst they did it.

That goes to show that there is no continuity between the dealers. Mine was done at Solihull Audi and I cant praise them enough for how hassle free it was to get sorted...they really couldnt do enough. Its just a shame the other dealers are playing their faces about it considering its all the same company :(

i took my car to audi sheffield and they said that the warranty is for only 10 years. Is this not true then

No, it states in the hand book that it's a 12 year anti corrosion warranty and says nothing about being millage limited!

Just out of interest whats the longest you guys have had to wait to get a response after the pictures have been taken? My s3 got inspected by Edinburgh Audi on March 30 and i have still had no reply. I phoned a week and a half ago but the paint guy assured me that this was a long and painful process and that they had heard nothing yet. Should i get back on the dog and bone again?

i went into Edinburgh Audi in Feb and i still havent heard anything, phoning them and seeing what the score is is high on my list of things i have todo.

when i spoke to them before they were talking about a "good will gesture" for the roof rail corrosion so not paying for it all which is rediculous

Just took mine to Audi in Stockport who sent me to the Smith Knight Fay bodyshop in Audenshaw,

They took measurements and photo's and told me they would get back to me within 2 weeks.

Lucy there was very professional and helpful, she assured me the roof would be done on warranty, but the bottom of the drivers door which has bubbled and the slight bubbling on all of the arches might not.

This is exactly what coulsdon audi said to me! Due to the age and the millage of the car they were only prepared to pay out 70% as a "good will gesture". He then tried telling me the car only had a 10 year warranty as justification for this!

I said im not prepared to excepted anything other than 100% of the fee being paid for and am still waiting to here back?

A little update: I informed Audi UK that I wasn't prepared to acccept the 70% goodwill gesture and that I wanted my car independently inspected. After a fair bit of grief it will finally be re-examined by a 3rd party inspector next Thursday.

That doesnt sound too good needing to take my S3 into Edinburgh Audi to get checked.... i too have the roof rail corosion :(
I have heard their custommer service isnt up to much.... a friend had bother with her new A4 at Edinburgh Audi....she now takes hers up to Perth Audi even tho its twice as far away
Anybody else had dealings with Edinburgh Audi on here ?

I too have refused their offer. This is simply not acceptable. How they can say it is not corrosion is beyond me!

best advise-when audi take paint depths reading make sure u take pictures of them taking pictures and either make a note of paint depths or get a copy as they like to make up readings to suit

The whole quarter panels and possibly roof have to be painted, went to bodyshop today prior to accepting the warranty claim as I wanted to be 100% sure i was getting what i am paying for. Also got a courtesy car, with a 1500quid excess!

How long does it normally take them to get back to you on this ?

Took my S3 over to Verve in Wishaw (a VW dealer, but a Audi bodyshop) and it's been weeks since and I've not heard back from them yet ?

Roy.
