How Different are S-line Springs to Sport/Standard Springs?

As the title says,

How different are the S-line Springs compared to the Sport or Standard springs?

The reason I ask is because my rear offside spring has snapped off at the bottom, less than two months out of warranty!

Bit of background:
I noticed a metallic knocking noise coming from the back off the car and asked a local exhaust place to take a look as I thought maybe the exhaust heatshield was loose. A few minutes later the guy came back with the loose piece of spring in his hand and my heart sank.

Spoke to both my local dealer and Audi UK and they are not willing to entertain a goodwill gesture as the car was not bought through a dealership (I'm the second owner and the car was bought through a trader in Sep 09), even though the car has been serviced and any work carried out has been through an Audi dealership all of it's short life.

The dealer's reason for not helping or even putting my case forward to Audi is because I have not shown dealership loalty! And Audi UK's response was they're commitment ended with the warranty. I explained I wasn't looking for anything free, but I felt a goodwill gesture was not unreasonable as I'm sure the spring is meant to last longer than 3 years and 2 months. Nothing!!


Now after ringing a couple of local motor factors and GSF, the do not list a rear spring for the S line and Euro Car Parts only list a standard or Sport spring. The guy at GSF did say you may find the S line springs are a dealer only part.

Now I know some people will say just put a nice set of lowering springs on the car as it's the perfect time, but I've done all my modifying when I owned my VW's and would prefer to keep the car's suspension as standard (plus the wife drives the car a lot and the suspension is stiff enough).

So getting back to my original question. Anyone know if the S line springs are different to the sport ones as I'm sure they are different to the standard ones?

Also no one has really said how safe or unsafe the car is to drive with the cracked/snapped spring?

The S-line springs are slightly lower than a sport and certainly more firm! I have a set if you interested but suppose its just one your after?

Ohh yea they are used mate, they are from a 2006 S-line! Covered around 40K! Just an option

Standard / SE springs are the standard height

Sport is 15mm lower

S-Line is 10mm lower than Sport

S3 is around 10mm lower than S-Line

Probably not S3 unless the Sport was a Quattro but S-Line ones you could...

i changed my springs from "sport" to "s-line" last week and there is definately clear difference in ride height - although no more than 2cm. The ride is firmer also. Very pleased with the change and would recommend it

I don't think it is a good idea changing just one spring, just doesn't seem right!

There should be quite a few spare springs available on this forum, it seems quite a common mod to change them.

Shame about Audi response though

Update:
Both GSF and ECP have told me that S line suspension is a dealer only part :Flush:

I must admit they seemed cheaper than I thought Audi would charge: £49.36 + VAT

Your right 8ig_steve which is why I ordered two, should be with me by Friday. Just need to get someone to fit them as I dont have any spring compressors.

guys use parcel2go, the springs will cost £15 to post at most, iv sent springs in a box for £7 collected and delivered.

Hi All, Sorry to barge in a resurrect an old(ish) thread, but I have just got an A3 Sportback, 07 2.0tdi SE.
Previously had the 3 door Sport. i have noticed a huge difference in the way that it steers, not as responsive, and is very "comfy". Now, i prefer a harder ride, (no smutty comments lol), and was wondering about S line springs or Sport. Where can i find some? Not bothered about being used, price is the biggest concern for me, being a lowly paid charity worker.
Any ideas/suggestions?

I've got 2011 2.0 tfsi quattro BE and was wondering if you can fit s3 springs to get my ride height that extra 10mm lower.. So can you fit the s3 springs to the s line shocks, or am I being dumb and you need to replace shocks too?

You'd need to compare S3 shock parts against yours & see if they're the same, if so then will fit fine IMHO.

Just spoke to Audi, they were quite cagey lol...! But I managed to get a technician to tell me that the S-Line shocks are the same size as the S3 in all dimensions, but that they are slightly firmer (different oil perhaps?).. So the S3 springs will fit my shocks, but that Audi obviously can't reccomend mixing parts from any different edition!!
For the record they are : front springs £73.16 each, rear springs £59.23 each
front shocks £73.42 each, rear shocks £70 each

Hi all,

Not sure if I,am on right thread.
I have a Audi A4 2006 cabroliet tfsi s line.
Just had rear coil spring fail on m.o.t.
I have phoned every garage I can think of for advise as to whether to put aftermarket springs on or genuine.
I have become so confused as to what to do I have now missed the 10 day re-test deadline!
I love the the low look of the car and don't want to compromise it at all.
I think I have come to the conclusion of just paying for genuine. I certainly have learnt a lot about coil springs.
Being a woman I just want to drive it. I don't mind having tyres , battery, brakes changed, but I just start freaking out if it is anything like this .
I have been told by Audi parts guy the colour code for my rear coils are 1 blue. 1 green. £98. Each.
Does anyone know if that is right plse?
