HI , i'm new to the forums so finding way round . I've recently got myself an 02 plate S3
great motor , but having a few issues ! Flat battery for one , which i'm working on , Concert II cd troubles and a question ref ESP operation . When switching on ignition i have no light / illumination
ref ESP on binnacle , the ESP switch on the dash is illuminated with dash lights but does'nt seem to do anything when switched , any help much appreciated :)

Righty... whilst not entirely clear what it is you mean I will make some assumptions... turning on the ignition does not illuminate the ESP light on the dash nor does operating the ESP switch when the engine is going?

The ESP light is the one on the rev counter shaped as a circular arrow round a triangle with an exclamation mark in the middle...

If this is not present then you in the first instance need to get the car checked for faults using vagcom or some other diagnostic tool... its not unknown for unscrupulous dealers to take the dash out and tape over the ESP light as this also displays if there is a more serious fault... I have only ever seen this come up on mine when my MAF went faulty...

A fault scan will tell you more

HI Tuffty ,

THink you've interpretted what i was trying to say , lol . As your pic shows i'm not getting the ESP light on the rev counter at all . So sounds like i may have a poblemo ! I'm getting a spare key coded to the car on friday so i'll ask them to scan it then , i'll come back to you with fault codes if thats ok . Many thanks ,

Ant

When you first get in the car and turn the ignition to position 2 they will all come on.

i know the haldex is not working, as for the air bag light i am not sure also when i use vag com to do a scan it says on some models its bad to scan the air bag click cancle to continue so i cant scan the air bag system

Just scan it, whats going to happen? As long as you have selected the right model and have a safe (IE not downloaded from limwire) copy of VAGcom it will be fine. But tbh if its airbag, and haldex related I'd take it to Audi myself. Personally I wouldn't want to be working on a safety system myself, and it can all get expensive pretty quickly!

yeah know what your saying i got a working haldex controller coming this week so will fit that and see what happens..

S3's are expensive cars to keep running right, but when they are right they are good :) Keep with it and get it all sorted, I know how annoying it is driving along with the dash lit up like a christmas tree! haha

its not lit up and cant get them to lite up thats the problem i get hand brake epc engine mangiment imobilizer abs they light up when ign is turn on. but the esp and air bag dont light up at all
