Jo, Decided what to do about the F1 invite?
You know you should.

I have plenty of time to think about it, I've asked the missus if she wants a holiday in Shanghai for 10 days, and she's keen. :)

I'm going to attempt a suspension change on my Passat in a bit, but restricted by time. Managed to buy some 3 month old lowering springs for a bargain £39 on fleabay, so that should be fun!

I just love ogling the snatch in Cheltenham.... the amount of MILFs out today is incredible....

Dude I was going to say the same thing the past week has been A MAZ ING for tail in Cheltenham!

Been looking at my cousin's website as he is up your way Welly damn good welder and fabricator check it out Automotive Components | Chopsnbobbers
He even made a mini dragster for his daughter.

No way, he's only along the road from where I live mate. I will deffo look him up. There are a few things I could do with getting knocked up.

Cheers dude - he's next to one of our customers! lol

Off road mental buggy???

Not seen Pete for a couple of years - he is a really nice guy and seriously into what he does as you can probably gauge from his website and pictures.

Real artist with his hands and a piece of metal.

Nice little break away mate.
Give you time to forget about the Passat and relax. :)

I miss Cheltenham in the summer. I use to enjoy driving around the town and looking at all the skirt trying no to crash in to the car/bus in front of me. lol

That thing is brilliant.
Wish my dad made me one of them when I was younger.

I've often thought about taking a the engine and drive train out of a BMW 540 E39, shortening the drive shaft and making a frame around it and making it a centre seater buggy.
A bit like this with my mate modelling the idea.

Right I'm going in 10 so have a great Easter everyone. I am one of those that booked 3 days off and now doesn't have to work for 11 days :arco:

Shed loads of maintenance to do on the house though :sadlike:

Paul

I need 10 weeks away mate, but my shop never sleeps, it's open 7 days a week, and I need to be here most days for it to run like clockwork. How else can I afford to have 2 S3's? lol

Get a family member to cover for you.
Thats what they are there for innit?

Noway mate, since I don't have anyone available to do it anyways, but I'd rather close than pass the pressure to someone else.

Have you ever watched Hell's Kitchen? lol

Yeah good point.

My mates old man owns a Chinese take away in Bristol.
It was great, free Chinese food every time we worked on the car but no way would I want to run it.
I'll take the food but not the responsibility.

Now I really want a Chinese!!!!!!

I've been out in the garden all day setting my fence posts. Got them all set so tomorrow I build fences :)

First one I've ever built and it's going ok so far luckily :)

I'm also sunburnt too, a right old farmers tan. I should have gone topless :)

I've been measuring, cutting and then staining new facia boards for my garage, nice big double one so I had 2 X 4 Metre boards to prepare. Now needs a few more coats of Saldolin to protect it before I fit it.

Boy is it hot outside.

Back to the office and found out I'm working friday as they need cover.
Not all bad, I get 2 extra days off.

Did every one have good long weekend?
Got burnt much?

I spent two days trying to sort out my stone chips and failed.
I wont be doing that again, I'm off to see a spray shop after work to see how much they will charge for 2 wings to resprayed and sort out some of the chips.
Need to see the garage about the nocking on the 206, stupid thing keeps nocking and I've ran out of bushes to replace (This must be how welly feels).
Someone did say it could be the DMF, I really hope its not.

No closer to it yet then?

The faster I go and the quicker the pull away the less chance I have of hearing the clunk.
Its an excuse that works for the misses but shes also started to drive like it as well and this scares me very much.

I given up now, stuff it. Whatever it is will break eventually and then I will know what it is. lol. I've spent probably £500 hunting for it, sod it, it can clunk.

I dont keep track of what I spend. It gets depressing. lol
I gave up when I replaced the drive shaft (another fault) and said it will break.
The misses is now moaning alot and saying its getting worse, dropping it off to the garage end of the week and hope they find the fault.
Its that or sell it.

Lets just hope its nothing to expensive when it breaks.

I had a knocking on my 206 GTI. Turned out to be the exhaust wobbling about too much and banging on the underside of the car.
The exhaust system on the 206 GTI (not sure about standard 206s) is very dodgy and very poorly designed. If its not lined up PERFECTLY then you can get all sorts of weird knocks and/or gas leaks.

Might not be the case with yours, but something to consider.

Morning all!

Axios i dont think the 206 GTi has a DMF, so you should be ok there. Im sure it has a standard solid flywheel.

Ours is the 138BHP GTI.
Its a nice motor, 100% standard apart from the exhaust.

I've often thought that and the centre section has come off a couple of times.
The orignal back box rusted out and the previous owner fitted a stainless steel system and its not the best fitting in the middle.

I've replaced the bushes on the exhaust and attempted to reposition it the best I can and I think it helpped a little bit.

What year is your 206??
Did he fit an entire system?? Including the cat???
If not, this is where ALL of my knocking problems started??

Basically the OEM GTI exhaust system on a 2000/2001 onwards is one piece (i.e. back, middle, and top/cat section are one piece). I'm not sure about the earlier ones, but could be the same.
You are not supposed to change individual sections, so if your back box needs changing you have to change the entire system!
However, lots of places cut off the faulty section and replace it with pattern or aftermarket sections. These vary rarely fit properly and leaks and knocks are common.
Even entire aftermarket systems rarely fit properly and need to be twisted and adjusted to get them on.

It took me three replacement exhausts before my system was leak-free, but even then I still had knocking present. In the end I gave up and part-ex'd it.

Its a 99 and the exhaust system is from the cat back.
Not sure when the knocking started or how long ago.
I bought it with all manor of knocking and shaking.

I replaced the clutch after it let go (I never paid any attention to the fly wheel at the time) and was greeted with this

That helped but still had the knocking, so replaced all engine mounts (thats when the drive shaft was replaced), drop link bushes and some others.
I was back over the receipts I got with it and noticed it had over 8 drop link bushes in it life, which seems a bit excessive.
The last thing I did was the drop link bushes and ARB bushes, thats when I had a look at the exhaust and noticed it was not fitting right and a bit shaky. I replaced all of the exhaust rubber mounts as well.
Still got the ****** knocking and can't see where the exhaust is hitting, if it the exhaust.

I have said to the misses about selling it and moving on but she likes it to much and said if we do sell it on she wants to get another Discovery. No way is that happening. We had one and it fell apart. lol

EDIT:=- The exhaust is a long life stainless steel fitted by them a several of years ago.
The car done just shy of 110K when we bought it last year.

Wow... that's some wear!

When you say its from the cat back.... do you mean that it still has the original cat and they have fixed the rest of the exhaust to it??
Doing this with mine caused no end of problems.
According to Peugeot doing this is a MASSIVE no no!

Does your car ever go into limp mode on starting?? Maybe only for a few mins or so?
This is another sign of poor fitting

110K.... I'm not surprised its knocking!
I owned mine from brand new, and after 28k miles I could feel it was about to fall apart!
I wouldn't write-off the chance it being the exhaust thats knocking, especially as you've already seen that it wasn't sitting quite right.
Problem I found getting rid of the exhausts issues was that, as you've mentioned, it was never obvious where the knocks or leaks were coming from.
I had a ticking noise as well. It was caused by gas escaping from where the exhaust met the manifold. Tried all sorts of clamps, sealants, etc etc to stop the problem, nothing worked for any length of time.

I think the later ones were worse than the earlier because they had a 2nd lambda sensor fitted just after the cat, so when people try to cut and shut them it tends to go wrong!
The earlier ones had just a single pre cat lambda, and not as many issues with aftermarket stuff fitting.

Yeah, you're right about the sensor problems. Had to get a couple new ones because the old ones were stuck fast and got damaged when removing.

Do you know what year an "earlier" model changes to a "later" model?

It was late 2000 i think, as after that vehicles had to start having 2 lambda sensors fitted pre/post cat, instead of just pre cat.

I had the ticking and sorted that out just before the MOT. I think its after the cat. But i'm not 100% sure. I'll double check it when I get home.

Not sure if it goes in to limp mode. There is no warning lights on the dash or any thing that comes up, apart from traction control light flashes up and then goes off.
The car also can't hold its revs very well, if you're going along at say 30-40 and holding the speed, it feels like your pulsing the throttle a little.
I'll get a diag done on it as well and see what it says.

Its a clean tidy car apart from the knocking, the bent parcel shelf, the clock display not working and the seat handles falling off. lol

It sounds like a right shed.
But the misses likes it and its nice to drive a car with a bit of poke after driving the Auto around all week.

I had this too. It was all related to the exhaust for me.

Haha, does sound a bit shed like.

Well at least your digi aircon still works. Mine used to crash all the time. Oh, and my airbag warning light wouldn't go off either. And I had a ketchup stain on the suede bit of the driver's seat.
None of these were exhaust related though. :lmfao:
