When I put my foot down, usually from low revs, I get a loud whining sound that is defently not the turbo?? Sounds like it might be a bearing but which one? I don't get the noise when I drive easy.

is the whining coming from front or rear?

It's coming from the front. I thought it was the gearbox, so I ordered a Reconditioned gearbox. Took out my old gearbox and realised not only were the gearboxs different, but the engine mount was dangerously loose and about to slip off??? I put back the old gearbox and tightened up the engine mount best I could, which felt really good and dosent give me any trouble to this day. And with the old box in the noise has gone away??? That was about a month ago and everything was fine until now!! The noise has come back! Not as loud but its there. I thought because the mount had dropped, that it was putting extra strain on the driveshaft?? Help i don't really wanna buy a new gearbox again as it took me a month to get my refund. Any ideas?

I hope it is that that's the problem as it's easy to fix and I so happen to have a brand new Forge hose going cheap ;)

Shameless plug lol. :jester:

Your description of the problem does sound fairly similar to my symptoms, fine off boost, but when you put your foot down much louder wooshing turbo noise and where the air from the turbo was escacping from the the pipe it made a whistley whiney whoopie cushion noise.

No its defently not the turbo leaking. More likely to be the trust bearing but when I hear the noise I press the clutch and dosent really make much difference. It's only under load.

It only happens in 1st and 2nd gears tho??

I understand that its difficult to diagnose a noise but the fact I took out the gearbox and replaced it and the noise went away? What could that be?

So would taking out the gearbox and changing the oil stop the noise for a while?? At the moment its only really in 1st gear when I floor it from low revs, but that is when parts are under most load I assume?? If the box is knackerd is it just a refurb I need?

Chipped tooth in the box could be the prob, if its only in some gears and not others.

How much would that cost to repair? Is it a full recon?

Probably alot cheaper to get a second hand unit if you can find one.
