Instead of Hijacking the other thread, thought I would start another:

Wanna sort ride height out asap, was originally set on some H&R 35mm springs but after speaking to a few mates on the weekend all seem to think it won't be noticeable, I'll regret it and coilovers would be best option.

Did alot of searching through coilover threads and I know Vmaxx or FK would be a good mid option, but when you add cost of fitting and all things that apparently need to be done with it (drop links, top mounts etc) it goes over my budget to buy them new (and second hand for my car seem to be hens teeth) so looked at JOM coilovers, seem to have very mixed reviews across the board but would like some feedback from those running them on here, looking at probably 45-50mm drop, road use only and want something that's better than standard S Line setup. Car is likely to change in around 18months anyway (very low mileage as car only gets used few times a week)

I may end up opting to wait and get fks, just trying to look at total cost (200 ish fitting plus if I need to change drop links, top mounts etc) I haven't got budget to chuck at the exterior so just trying to get what I can to tidy it up really.

If you want them fitted fella come down my way only 40minute drive. My mate will fit them for cheap for you.
 
Give us a week or two and I'll put up some more thorough feedback in my own thread. With the limited driving I've done they seem fine. No crashier than stock (maybe even a bit smoother) but a little firmer in the corners. Mine are all the way down too!
 
I got my set of JOM's in the post yesterday, hopefully i'll have them fitted this week so i'll post up a review.
 
I have cheap coils there better than stock .I had billys on my last mk3 vr6 and these feel very simular
Although not fully adjustable.Cannot grumble corners miles better no lurching
No clatters but not fully down yet!
 
Ash may take you up on that offer mate when I get them, was gunna try and tie up with Fran for detail at some point aswell so may work out nice.

Tim & Tyrell yeah that would be helpful please, you got any pics of them on?

Steve, I would mate but mods have taken back foot to house deposit (was suppose to stop completely, but cutting back works better for me :p)

Yeah Shane just said on FB when you got them let me know call down and he do them for you. Fran not far from me either about 25-30minutes depending on traffic and my mates from mine 10-15minutes so wont be an issue :) Coilover and a detail sorted:happy:
 
From all I've read about the JOM, comfort + ride seems to be the same or very similar to vmaxx/ AP until you spend £500+ on Weitecs or Vmaxx damping adjustable one's. Everything else I have ever read about JOM + Jamex (not raceland and those ebay ones) has been pretty positive tbh some people were rating them as highly as Wietec's in terms of comfort (but that was on an 8L).

The only thing that I read that makes a big difference between the JOM's and say Vmaxx for instance is the thread is thicker and your less likely to get siezed adjusters on the Vmaxx due to this. Comfort and ride quality seems to rated very similarly. I can't say I've experienced this personally but I have asked a few people who ride the JOM's and Jamex coils whom have ridden in other A3 with Vmaxx/ AP etc that rate the just as highly.

I had a similar dilemma after shedding out for my 2010 facelift, running dry on funds for the project and not being able to live with the unforgivable wheel arch gap any longer :D so I went with a mid range set of FK shocks and springs with 40mm drop. I may swap the springs for some H&R springs if I am not happy with the comfort of FK's ones, a combo a few of the yanks are running and I read it pretty works well with FK's shortened shocks.

Anyway, I suppose my point is go for the JOM's mate, there are more than a few people running them around the various forums whom mostly have nothing bad to say about them and at £200 you can sell on if unhappy and not loose too much at all.
 
If I work it right gotta go for training session with my mate too who lives in Cardiff, could be a win win situation haha.
 
i have them, cant really fault them, get them slapped up proper with grease and your good mate. check my thread, i have my fronts not far off the last threads and the rears are a little more than half way

the ride is fair i would say as if your putting any lower profile tyres on you are going to loose some comfort. i knew i was going to kill mine with 19' and 35 profile tyres so i wasnt really bother what it would ride like but was surprized when i found they are a good ride.

only thing is i would like them to have more thread on the front, so if i want to go lower i would have to do some modding to them.
 
Tim: Looks pretty nicely set, is that 18s or 19s? Will await your reviews

Warren: Your car is one of the ones that got me really thinking of dropping it, looks sweet especially with the speedlines (would love a set but money won't stretch that far)

May go for them as a punt, reviews seem to be generally good and only heard of one set breaking (although reading on seems more like OP error)

yeah i mean at the time didnt want to fork out for expensive coilovers, mine have been great upto now and if they go i can always get another set (as there cheap) or look into others. mine get some proper use as well driving in multi-storeys with harsh speedbumps etc. so i would recomend
 
Looking at these on ebay for about £200, they come with some blue springs.. do you guys use these springs or swap them for some different ones?
 
what do you mean the springs on the coilover itself? if so yeah of course mate thats the appropriate strength springs.

Right ok, you'll have to excuse me when it comes to coilovers - never had them fitted before so it's all new to me.

I only asked as on my FTO, when I wanted to lower it, I just fitted some Apexi springs and that was it. So I presumed that with these coilovers, you could change the springs to whatever brand you fancied. Obviously not haha :)

These do seem very cheap then if that's the case - £200 all in ? The springs alone cost me £150 when I lowered my other car. Or is there something else I'm missing here?

Not missing anything mate. They are cheap, thats it. How long they last only time will tell but initial immpressions are good VFM.
 
Hi guys... I'll be getting a set of these too at some point :) Just wondering though...can you still adjust the height while the wheels are on the car or do you have to take the wheels off to get to the adjusters?

Wheels on with the fronts, not tried the rears yet, but as long as you jack up to take the load off the collar etc
 
Ahh not too bad then, I had visions of having to take the wheels off, adjust put wheels back on and so on till you got the right stance... Cheers for that :L

Think I'll have to get the FK AK STREET ones as I don't think you can get JOM ones for the quattro.

Read good things about those too over on the TT forum. It was a toss up between the two for me, just the lower price & the greater amount of feedback sold me the JOM's in the end.
 
Cool glad to hear that... It's only a extra £20 for the ones I will have to get so not too bad. Even if they only last a couple of years it's a bargain compared to oldskool branded stuff.
 
ive heard some good reviews about these coilovers mate cheap but not nasty if you want to spend a few extra ££ get some v-maxx's thats what im running and they are very nice and smooth if you want some give n8 a shout he sells them for a good price

Fran: Yeah I looked at the Vmaxx but still double the cost which I honestly don't think I can justify at the moment
