I am booked in to get my front grille, grille surround and audi rings sprayed tommorow.
My a3 is black and im unsure on what type of black will suit better...satin or gloss.
I have my rear audi badge in matte by the way.

Thanks in advance.

Spray it like the Black optic pack, matte grill, gloss surround

So gloss rings and gloss surround...sweet :icon_thumright:

Cheers. What about the Audi rings?
And would the plate part be matte aswel as grill or gloss like surround?

Well the OEM one on mine is Matte to match the grill, looks good against the gloss surround! Gloss Rings are what i would do if if i was painting mine

Yeh thats what i will go for, cheers.
Will get pics up on my build thread when done!

Yes mate. In the process of saving for coilies and tyres....

Well I was quoted for all satin for £100 quid, I phoned up and said i want gloss surround and audi rings and it's bumped up to £150!!

if it were me i'd leave the rings alone. otherwise Smoothie's advice is sound

black gloss on the surround and grille bars on my SB. cost me £65 looks great! I've got some matt black rings but yet to to be fitted as I'm still undecided  think you may find some pics if you look around my past threads. hope this helps

Is your car S-line? My Grill was about £200 brand new from Audi with matching number plate holder, new rings, and new S-line badge as its on a little backing plate which is also black!

So i think you would be mad to pay £150 when another £50 would buy a brand new one

I have see your pics so might just go for the black gloss grille and surround.

I have just a standard sportback smoothie, so yeh that is very pricey If you paid £200 for your new one.
I have seen on eBay a black satin grill for £65 but it's the hassle of fitting, so hopefully the price of £150 will drop if I just chose one type of black.

And I will leave the rings for the time being, thanks sub.

easy to fit once you drop the front bumper, which again is no too big a job

True that. But seeing the pics of yours I think I will go for the same as my a3 is black I think gloss will suit.
Will buy black Audi rings and contemplate fitting.
You had any stone chips since spraying yours?

Yea dude leave the rings, i only did my rear rings as it takes the chrome up front to break it up a little, black rings up front can look cheap IMO

Yep £200 brand new from audi and as i said that was about 3-4 parts in total that make up the black optic! The ones you have seen on eBay are probably FK ones mate, don't go that route stick to OEM and paint your existing

Yes the grills on eBay are either mesh or the grill slats look wider apart.
Will just spray mine all gloss and leave chrome rings.
Will get pics up on my build thread aswel as a few other bits I have changed.....

yeah didnt think of saying about vinyl wrap lol that's a defo cheaper way of doing it , its a thin vinyl sheet that has got a 3m backing (sticky) that can stick to near enough anything and is cheap and easyish to fit i did my interior trims in vinyl and my b-pillars for the cost of around £30 total

Ok thanks Fran.
Undecided whether to or not to get it sprayed now lol and go down the cheaper route.

I'm going to go for gloss grill and surround and leave the rings chrome.
What do you think?
