Hi all,

Sorry if this has been posted before but couldn't find anything ...

Anyway, I'm thinking of making the Chrome Audi rings on the back of my car Black.

What is the best way to do this? Simply paint them? Or use some sort of Chrome remover?

Massive thanks in advance!

You can either remove them and sand them down (don't have to remove all of the chrome coating), then use some etch primer, then paint or you can buy a a ready made black emblem made from ABS plastic, so it won't chip or scratch and show the silver underneath (as may happen if you paint your existing badge). I bought a black one off Ebay and intend to keep my silver one to put back on the car when I eventually come to sell it. :)

How do you remove the rings off the boot? Have had a look on the inside but can't see any sign of clips etc?

the best way is to heat them up with a hairdryer, get some dental floss to cut through the glue that holds them off and then so road tar remover to clean whats left of the glue

Ah IC thanks, so they're just stuck on like the other badges on the boot!

Thanks for the input/advice everyone, I will get on with this at the weekend and post my results up :)

Cheers!

No probs, Jack. Happy to help! Have debadged my cars a few times now and modded badges etc, so as said above, the trick to getting the badge off easily is heating it up a little bit first. If you find that you have some sticky residue left where the badge was, you can use a clay bar along with some clay lube or quick detailer to get rid of it. You will do just fine! :)

EDIT Oops, nearly forgot to say, ..you can use some masking tape to show you exactly where the badge was for re-applying in the right place, ..don't want wonky rings, lol .

Thanks Paula, yeah it really suits the car much better than the chrome rings!
