Hi folks, was just away to change glow plugs as my car sometimes goes into limp mode at high speeds. While taking things apart I found a thin black pipe at the back of the engine not connected to anything. Followed the pipe to a black box with 6 other numbered pipes. Can anyone tell me what it is and where does pipe 3 go to???? Thanks!

Don't think glow plugs work when the engine is up to temperature mate. Certainly I've never heard of them causing a car to go into limp mode !

What engine is it and can you post pics of the pipes in question ?

Yeah I did think that but it struggles to start in the morning and it did flag up a glow plug error couple weeks back.

It's A3 2.0 tdi 8p will try n get some pics up if I find out how to!

Here's a video! Think it should work

Looks like what is called 'vacuum hoses with connection' that plugs into the solenoid valve block.

from the video i think that is the pipe that runs down to the actuator on the turbo for the vnt

1 - Mechanical exhaust gas recirculation valve
2 - Vacuum reservoir
3 - To vacuum unit for charge pressure control
4 - To vacuum unit for exhaust gas recirculation cooler change-over
5 - Solenoid valve block
6 - Vacuum supply line
>From tandem pump to solenoid valve block
7 - Tandem pump
8 - Air cleaner housing
>With connection for vent hose

Thanks very much guys for your help! Would that pipe being off cause the car to go onto limp mode at high speed?

hi, that pipe should connect to the actuator on the turbo. it would cause problems at high revs if not connected. you should re-connect it ASAP and try the car

As said yes it can cause limp mode due to the engine management not being able to regulate turbo speed and therefore boost pressure.
