A4 quattro coilover reccomendations

Morning guys,
I am looking at getting some coilovers for my 03 2.5tdi avant quattro.
I do not want a budget option, more a quality item that will maintain some ride quality.
I would like adjustable dampening but also don't want to spend £1500 either.

I have been looking at the AP APx kit. Has anyone got this kit?

Weitecs will be a good option for you - made by the same company as KW - but cost less!

Try companies like PSi Tuning for pricing.

Fitting is normally around £150.

Is fitting only £150ish for new suspension? Interesting! I thought it would have been 300ish, ha!

I may have to look into this then myself as mine looks like it's on stilts.

I have had AP's coilover's and Eibach Suspension set up on my 1.8T and still was not happy, the AP's were a pain due to knocking sound's all the time, the Eibach's were great but the car was not low enough, but now i'm a happy bunny with my choice of suspension mod's (mix and match).

I have used eibach pro-street front spring's along with Audi A4 B5 spring perches and new S-Line oem shock's up front. The rears have Weitecs rear shock's and AP adjustable coilover spring's and platform's, job done low and comfortable.

I had AP coilovers on my mk4 golf. they were terrible at low speeds. would knock all the time. once the car was moving >30mph they were fine though and drastically improved the handling. I also had FK silverlines on my mk3 ibiza cupra and they were excellent. no knocks or rattles very comfortable for coilovers. i would reccomend them.

Thanks for the replies guys.
In a way it's not helping lol. Each time I find a set that I think ticks the boxes and someone recommends, someone else slates them.
The exception being the Blisteins. However they are serious money and don't go that low.
I want adjustable dampening but is this an unrealistic option? Thing being I have a slammed van with a horrible ride (my choice) and I wanted to keep comfort in the car.
Anymore first hand experiences?
Has anyone had Gaz coilovers made?

Paul the eibach and S-line shocks along with the B5 perch will give you nice ride (no crash/knock) the ride comfort is very good even eith 19's. The rear's are AP Spring and perch along with weitec shock's again also offer nic comfort.

It looks good in the pictures, I do want option of adjusting the ride height however.
Carl is using fk konigsport and is happy. However heard others that are not.
It seems to be a minefield. Tempted by the blisteins but they only offer 30mm more drop.

My Polo sits on FK's. Very stiff and the ride is hard.

Spring perches are a large washer/platform that slide's over the standard shock that coil spring sits on . The audi B5.B6.B7 front shock's have this removable platform/perch.
What makes the B5 perch different from the b6,b7 is that it's 15mm shorter so when fitted to our b6 factory shock's it will lower the front by 15mm, so adding this perch and eibach 30mm lowering spring's gave me a nice drop of say 45mm.

I have been running KW V1's on my Avant for nearly 5 years. Fantastic quality and fit. Brilliant customer service.

But above all, awesome ride and damping. My KW's have a better ride than the factory S-Line (1BV) quattro GmbH suspension.

I had no major issues fitting them and no issues since. I can't vouch for the Weitecs but agree they may be a better priced option and are part of KW.

Thanks for that. How wound down are the KW's in the photos? I have 20mm drop as standard I believe and need to go lower.
I'm glad the comfort is there. If I can go low on this set up it could be an option.

They are about 15mm lower than S-Line suspension, so enough to take your sport 20mm+ lower. The rear will go 5mm or so lower and of course there is plenty left to balance the front. However KW state a maximum lowering (distance between hub centre and wheel arch) I am about at that limit (give or take 5mm).

This will ensure suspension geometry is kept and above all safety and (what I believe you're after) comfort. Any lower and IMO you lose the balanced look of the car and the front "suspension" just looks broken.

The front will go lower using the B5 perches. The comfort level will be the same as you have now as it's only the pearches you are swaping out.. I went for new oem shocks as i felt it was the right thing to do..

If you run the B5 perches on the front you can't adjust, like i stated coilovers at the rear and eibach 30mm coil spring's and oem shocks plus the B5 pearch up front. If you use the b5 perch with the spring's you have now you will have a drop of 15mm up front only. I bought coilover platform's and sprngs for the rear only(not a full kit), then bought weitec rear shocks on there own. I have been trying to find a combo of comfort and lowering and with these mix and match item's i feel that the setup has good road holding, the car is much lower than when i was on eibach setup and much, much better than the AP's i had back in 2009.

It's always hard to show the drop in photos, but it is at least 15mm lower than S-Line. I must take some more pics of the car because it's now got 10mm spacers all round. TBH I hate it when people over lower the front, to me it upsets the balance of the car and just looks like the front suspension is broken! I bet they drive poorly too, not my reason for upgrading the suspension!

I could easily go lower on the front but I wanted to lower the car by the same amount all round. I set the rear first and adjusted the front to match. The full 4 wheel geometry I did before and after was spot on.

It corners pretty well for a bus too

Well thanks for all the posts and advice. A friend has just lowered his on weitec and it looks great on 19s. I'm gonna look at the hicon Tx kit I think. The adjustable dampening will hopefly help maintain a nice ride with still being able to go low.

Go for it but think about the KW V1's they are stainless steel and fit and forget. I guess the Hicon's are adjustable for rebound only?
