So as the title says I spent the weekend painting my avus 17" wheels black.

So to start with I needed to get the wheels off, which was an absolute ball ache by the way when you only have the standard audi supplied jack and wrench :| . Being and ill-equipped student is not the best.
So gear and entertainment:

Here we go, wheel sanded and taped up :

Somehow managed to forget a whole pic of the primer but did get one of the dust cap I forgot to tape up... :(

So now with the paint on :

Whilst that was drying I did this ....

And this...

So now lacquered :

Just a quick note, when it rains and you move things in the shed just wait till its clear... massive headache from spraying inside :(

Right, the wheels aren't back on the car yet so will take a picture tomorrow when they go back on, but heres one of the front:

Any questions ask :)

Rate and Slate you know the drill ;)

Oh and yes that is a trolley, no I didn't steal it, I borrowed it from next door. It made a great spraying surface and then returned it them none the wiser :D

Nice work! I always think the black badge + surround looks better on black cars. Wheels look ace

I'm tempted to do this, looks good. I have a bit of bubbling around a dust cap and some curbing on a couple of the rims. Think I would just need to sand it all down, primer, paint then lacquer?

Yeah man just and it flat and then use a finer grain to get it smooth for the paint, tbh I just had a little sand of the 1 kerb I have and sprayed over it, its less noticeable now.

The kerb was from the new arb, turns out just doing the rear makes it go sideways .....

looks great, did you paint the back of the alloys?,,,nice straight cut on the sarnie too

won't lie, I did not do the backs, purely because after 40 minutes of scrubbing I hadn't finished the back of 1 wheel to clean, let alone de-greased for sanding.

IMO it looks fine because the inside of the wheels are so dirty and for ~ £40 all in I wasn't expecting miracles.

nice mate. my surround needs doing again. might do the badge too now ive seen urs. looks stealth

Looks good, you might've just inspired me to do mine anthracite now!

Looks really good mate, good effort for a DIY as well....

Loving the grille and surround too, I did my surround a while ago, but its all chipped now, so will need to do it again, with a few more coats me thinks.

As already mentioned, the black rings look good, but only on a black car, i have kept mine chromed on a silver car and think it looks just right.

looks good been toying with the idea of painting my alloys black

Looks nice mate. I did the same thing when i first got my car but now changed to matt black just before this winter came!

Get it lowered :)

I will stand up for the 1% out there who never seem to voice their opinion, but sorry I just don't see it.
And the comment above that "...think the black badge + surround looks better on black cars" - sorry, but I must be in alternate universe to understand the car with no idendity look.

Wow, that is a seriously nice looking car you've got there! Lovely job, the wheels really finish it off nicely!

A* good work bud.

I have to agree though, hit it with the lowering stick, and some tyre dressing!

Whats the interior combo like?

You are allowed an opinion :) Personally I love it and it's only me that has to like it. Thanks for your opinion though, I see your no identity point but I prefer the stealth look of it.

Did you sand by hand or use a drill bit thing? Looks a tidy job btw :)

Will be going on Bilstein B8's and H&R 25mm lowering springs when funds allow, Its Black leather with White Alacantra (?) inside, as far as looks go, once lowered i'll be done and heading down the performance route.

When I get bored of black there might be some form of red lip and grill surround heading my way but i'll have to see how long it takes me to get bored. If the past is anything to go by it will probably be in the next few weeks .....

I'll be doing this soon to my VAG 18" alloys. Wicked thrad and wickd job!!

My only suggestion is to de-badge or paint the rear ring badge on yours.

looks stop on mate, you know what would finish it off tho is a set of facelift rear lights ;P
