This maybe a stupid question but do all A3s with DIS have the Brake Pads worn symbol display function?

I have done a number of searches on Pads and brakes generally.

My brakes are now squeeking and though its probably nothing I wondered if I need to replace any pads or discs.

How reliable is this indicator?

It should be very reliable, there is a wire embedded in the pad, when the pads wear down it breaks the wire and you get the light on the dash.

ta mate,

can't quite get what the squeeky brakes would mean then.

Discs seem ok, no indicator on my DIS?

I know it has been covered before, but there seems to be no conclusive answer. or am I missing something?

Stone stuck somewhere?

Mine squeel alittle when slowing lightly at around 5mph....

Just ignore it unless it's nasty, some cars do squeel

When you fit the pads, too much copperslip attracts brake dust, which can dry out the whole sliding pad assembly which leads to squeaks. Or one of the pads has seized and you have worn it right down to the metal. If you take the front wheels off and look in through the hole in the caliper you should see how much pad material is left.

This is true there is only a sensor on 1 pad isn't there?

On mine there is lots of pad left but still squeel sometimes mainly when the car has done alot of town driving...

I considered the stone possiblity but the discs don't appear to have been affected.

I've owned the car since September 07 and never replaced the pads (under the impression I only needed to when prompted by the DIS indicator)

In this time I have chalked up 28k easily. Surely by now I'd need to replace them.

They have only been squeeking a week or so but pads aren't expensive?

Should I replace like for like?
Should disc need replacing aswell?

Mine is just about to do 40k and have over 1/4 left on the pads........

I got the car at 19k so i'm sure they are the original pads....

I tend not to be too hard on brakes though....

the brake dust off the pads can cause brakes to squeal. Its not impossible for pads to wear down to metal on one side but not trigger the warning due to uneven pad wear if the pad is stuck in the slides. I think if you remove the pads, clear slides etc and put everything back together with a little copperslip on the backs of the pads where they touch the noise will go.

Can't see that there's an answer to the original question - do all A3s with DIS have the Brake Pads worn symbol display function? And if so is it on both front and rear?

Anyone?

Brake pad sensor is on front left only.

Yes all A3's with DIS have worn symbol, and those without also have warning in cluster.
