I don't know if anyone has mentioned this on here, but I have been informed that there is a product recall for coil packs on engines as in the title. I have booked mine in to have it checked. From the sound of it I'm going to get all 4 replaced because I'm still running the originals. :)

There is a large thread on it in the A3 area of this board

Had mine done a couple of weeks back.

Yeah, not just the 1.8. I got all 8 on the S4 done last week. Well, that not entirely true, as I changed 3 myself a couple months back.

Hadn't seen it on the B6 part of the board. The more people that see it the better IMO.

thanks for this. If I have recently changed all four coil packs, is there anything I can claim?

thanks for the link, its a pity i didnt know about this a couple of months back, it would have saved me a bit of £££

Recall Ref is 28E9

Phone/Email your Stealer and quote the reference, they'll check their database - if your car is on it, they'll book you in and do the work if required.

I just phoned and asked if my vehicle was subject to a recall. He took my registration and after a moment he came back to me and said "Yes it is, would you like to book it in?"

I assume that when I go to collect it they'll say that this needs doing and the other needs doing, but that's par for the course I suppose.

But hey ho, if it saves me £160 ish.......happy days....;

I have changed all 4 of my coilpacks in the last 4 years i wonder if they,ll give me 4 new spare ones then .i think not ,dont no whether to get them changed or not now these ones have settled in ,wouldnt it be nice to have 4 spare ones tho.

They won't give you four spares - an they won't allow you to keep your existing ones when they replace them as they to send them back to Audi to get paid for the work under the recall.

As for them finding other work - it seems to have been hit and miss - some people have had full health checks (and Valets) carried out by the Dealer as part of the work - others haven't (including me).

My Dealer said they were so busy changing Coil Packs for all and sundry that they didn't have time to do much else.

I'm having some of this. I have had 3 go in 3 year's. I want to keep the ones fitted to the car as i have had them custom coloured.

Is this a free service audi are doing
Mines a 1.8t cab on a 03 plate. God knows if tje coil pack been dun. But wouldent it be good to get some free

Nice one Alan. I'll make this a sticky for a few weeks so everyone see's it.

I dunno, Alan mentions it, but I provide all the info - he gets thanks and I don't.

Toys, Cot, Corner!

Please don't Ban me Mr Moderator - I've nothing else to fill my boring existence! LOL

I didn't see your post raising it in the B6 section like I did Alan's, apologies if I missed it.

I've thanked you now so I hope your tears have dried.

Thanks for that Alan. I phoned Audi today and the woman said that my car was on the recall list. But the earliest I could get to booked in was 6th April! Not long away I suppose!lol The woman said that Audi will test the coils and replace free of charge if needed! I drive a 2.0 Sport.

Thanks Again!

LOL - only trying to get a reaction from you Mr Moderator Sir, just to give your banning button finger a bit of potential exercise! :)

Thank you Alan for the original post - I would have done it but in the excitement of getting free Ignition Coils from Audi, I forgot.

Love and kisses

Rob

Unless they've changed, Diesels don't have Coil Packs...

Many thanks to the OP for this heads up. I've owned my Audi A4 Avant 1.8T for just 3 weeks and I saw this post yesterday. Rang Exeter Audi straight away and got it booked in for this morning (very impressive). Just picked it back up, was half expecting the "you need this and that" as mentioned above but no, nothing. They said 1 was already the new type so 3 were changed and they even washed my car. My Audi experience so far is bliss!

Thanks again.

booked mine in for monday!
my brother had his done this morning on a 1.8 t didnt change a thing but got a car wash and vac !

Mine is booked in for the 30 April. I told the service guy that i have had 3 coilpacks go in 3 years the guy said have i still got the receipt's YES i said he told me to bring them along and they will try to reimburse me.. Result..

got mine done today at stockport audi, 4 new coil packs, a wash a vac and a free pressure test on my coolant system. found a leak on my coolant flange which is a result. only problem its a £9 part and £290 to fit... what a joke.... but apart from that well happy thanks for the info

Can I just ask.... what year is your car? FSH?

mines a 2003 53 plate 1.8T 190 BEX engine, has got fsh but not all from audi. Dont think SH matters, if you have the faulty/old coils you will get nice new ones... for free....

I wasn't worried about SH, just asking out of curiosity...and just trying to gauge whether cars as old as mine have had revised parts put in over their lifetime in conjunction with any or no service history (takes a breathe) When I spoke to the guy on the service desk he sort of said it looked like mine had never been changed...... so hopefully I'll get 4 new shiny ones too.
