For those who know what this is, great.

For those who don't, it is following on from discussions on cecilthesausage's thread here: http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/a3-s3-forum-8l-chassis/115773-my-first-dyno-figures-2.html from post number 51.

The long and short of it for those who can't be bothered to click the link (and I know that will be some of you...lol), is that Myself, Dane and Tufftybloke are looking to hire out some sort of venue to do some performance on the road comparison testing.

The reason being that we all know that dyno figures are thrown about a lot, however it would be interesting to see how those numbers on the dyno correlate to real life on the road.

The idea is that all three of our cars have Badger 5 maps of some sort, however the hardware varies greatly. Dane's is stock hardware Stage 1 Map, I have a hybrid, and Tuffty has a GT3071. This makes for a fair comparison between the different options people tend to lean towards.

I will also rope a friend of mine with his stock S3 APY as that would also be an interesting comparison to Stage 1.

Discuss.

sounds good! no doubt it will be half way across the country for me though :p

Should be fun and informative!

I dont really know how fast mine is in real life and how much difference going hybrid or BT actually makes but it would be good to find out.

This will be great if you get this going.

It would be good if you could get all cars weighed as this will have some impact on proceedings. I'm not expecting you and tuffty to be too far apart but Dane will start to suffer with his smics.

create an ASN day style event. all members attending (hopefully alot) contribute to hiring an airfield (elvington is all i know of, they do max speed events there) and there you got, we've got a place and event we can all compare cars in a drag race/thrash event

This will be great welly if ya can all get I going iv just got a hybrid so ill find out eventuaily when car is done

Well, that would be good I grant you, however we want to compare cars with different hardware that have been mapped in the same way in the first instance.

It makes it a good comparison of how much difference there is between cars with varying hardware that have been mapped by the same person on the same dyno.

that would be no problem doing that if an event like that were organised. i've no idea of costs or safety regulations etc you'd have to follow on a place like that though.

orrr, why dont you just attend a top speed event that already exists and go there to compare?

I reckon this should be a general test of what can be expected from different levels of tuning and how they compare on the road in real life, as opposed to loads of people down to see whos the fastest. Although that does sound fun!

I have my Racelogic Performance VBox if you want to get some GPS logged accurate times etc
in gear, 0-60, 0-100, vmax all being things it logs onto its SD card

Not interested in starting another Inters.... this is just some blokes cocking about but in a safe/legal environment... purely for our own entertainment which of course will be shared to you the lovely folk of ASN...

Consider it a service

Funny you should mention that... my Liquid kept crapping out last night (on a private road I know) while trying a 0-100 timing... I was gonna ask for a lend ;P

OK, so as it turns out, Gloucestershire has about 50 disused air fields from WW2. Amazing to find this out having had no idea before.

Most of them are places such as this:

Bing Maps - driving and transit directions, routes, traffic conditions

Which are of very little use, however there are quite a few which have pukka runways and are used for gliding and such.

I've been sending emails to all of them trying to blag some time there... we shall see what comes of it.

I imagine (hope) most of them would be quite pleased with an extra few bob for doing nothing.

I reckon multiple runs would be good to highlight the need for FMIC etc. on mine, maybe logging at the same time???

Obviously we couldn't have done this on the road but i may well highlight some of the finer points

Sounds like a plan! I'd defo come to this, i'll do the slowest 0-60 (on purpose) lol

Could do a North vs South competition :)

I've been in touch with the MoD about using RAF Little Rissington in Bourton On The Water. They told me to **** off.

Fair enough. lol.

MoD might be a bit funny, I can understand that. I only know of one but its 60 miles away so not exactly close lol.

Keep it up dude, I appreciate it!

There is a disused set of asphalt runways about 10 miles from the top of Birdlip Hill, out towards Cirencester.... Mental.

They are all over the shop!!

A cheap easy and possibly free way of doing it..... How i hear you ask, lol.

Contact redline and tell them what your thinking of doing, nearly every month they hold some kind of event like this and make a 10 page spread comparing etc.

They normal do it on a airfield strip of a track with a good stretch plus track etc.

Just a thought :).

:racer:Dani that's the best idea yet. A mag feature comparing the 3 stages of tune including logging etc. That could make for a big feature that redline I'm sure wouldn't turn down. Best mag too. And welly tufty and Dane get to feature.

Andit couldn't be much better for bill too! Free advertising, more credit to his already great reputation.

I was going to do a vmax day 2 weeks ago at bruntingthorpe but didnt get the time. There was plenty of fine cars plus vags there and would have been perfect for this. It was a 30-130 plus max speed all logged on a vbox. I have the results if anyones interested.

I was planning on trying to work out through vagcom to do 30-100 and 0-100 tests on the weekend an upload the data if I can get it to work.

OK, epic win.

Aston Down Airfield in Stroud have agreed to let us use their runway for a few hours for a nominal charge.

The charge is based on that we would all have to be come temporary members of the gliding club to do it.

Fair enough. And it doesn't get much closer to home for Tuffty.

I've got to give the guy a call later in the week to arrange.

A-maz-ing! As said in pm i work Thursday and Friday nights but I am oh so happy to swap shifts.

I would suggest that if we're going to try and get some of this on film, it might be worth doing it during the day time.

I'd happily book a day off - if everyone else is feeling that vibe?

Video isn't so important we want stas galore though.

lol, I want video. I want some good filage of my car launching off thte line. I want to try and capture the noise :).

The same with Tuffty's his sounds epic.

There will be plenty of stats.... lol.

My mate will be tagging along with his completely OEM S3 as well for a comparison of all makes and models.
