Clutch is just starting to slip on my s3 under hard acceleration, only had the car a day, the dealer is willing to get it done, but not by audi, he wants me to book it into halfords autocentre, what do you think, please help..

You've only just got the car, so I think it's reasonable to point out that the car had the fault when you got it.
Therefore, make sure you're completely happy that the replacement clutch is being fitted at a garage you're okay with. There may be those who aren't too happy with a Hellfrauds autocentre. I got my clutch fitted at a Mr Clutch - not always great but the guys at my local franchise were known to be great and indeed they were...

Nothing wrong with Haldfords if the job is done properly. Make sure you get some sort of warranty on the work and it should be fine..Some might say however you should not change the clutch without doing the flywheel. depends on the mileage really.

the dealer hasnt a leg to stand on, he sold you a car which obviously had a serious fault. Understandably he doesnt want to audi to fit a replacement clutch as they will rip him off. I'd try and find a local VAG specialist and get a price off them. Last thing you want is your clutch s****ing itself 5k down the road because halfords didnt fit it right!

What make of clutch should I get then , done by halfords or not, I mean like Lucas ? Sachs?, etc. The car has done 55000, will the flywheel need changing ? What is there life expectancy ? Thanks for you replys .

The Sachs is the best one for everyday use,on moderately modified and standard cars,as it feels much like the OEM one,but has much better torque limits.</p>
You should change the flywheel at the same time,and yours has done really well to reach 55 000 without needing a new one.
The Sachs in mine has coped with 24 000 remapped miles,and is currently coping with 440bhp/420lbs.

Is the later OEM not a SACHs anyway? which is a better `version than the earlier LUK unit?
Clutches are a real problem on S3s and mine was also changed by AUDI at 30K?
The replacement felt slightly firmer than the failed unit so either it had improved clamping force or the LUK unit deteriorated prematurely.
My DMF was inspected and found to be spot on so wasnt replaced. If the clutch has been slipping for a while however then the DMF will need changed and show signs of damage.
Good luck getting it sorting, make sure the DMF is checked and everything is boxed up correctly. If you go the uprated route then stick a map on it!

I picked up my s3 2 weeks ago, 2007 with 27000 miles full audi history from a honda dealer. On the way home all was fine untill i accelerated on the motorway hard ish in 5th to get up to speed and the rev counter went form 3 to 4 thousand and did it every time in 6 th too.... Pulled off at next junction where I live and phoned them up. Basically told them I was having my car back and they agreed, whatever I wanted. Nipped into Stafford Audi where it has always been done and there was no record of any slipping. Anyway got back to The honda dealer and they were waiting and were very helpfull test drove, agreed and said car back or it will be fixed regardless of cost by Audi as they didn`t have the tooling for the job. So result in the end but poor show from the clutch........
