Which engine? 2.0 TDI or 1.6TDI

I am changing from my 2.0 TFSI to a diesel for economy and a bit more torque. The TFSI has speed but no real kick in the back as it goes, it costs a lot in fuel despite returning an average 29 mpg over long periods of up to 4000 miles. I no longer want speed, I want something more economic and still a bit zippy.

My wife has a 1.6 TDI Golf and it is superior to my TFSI in terms of comfort and quietness, it is fairly zippy around town and on the motorway. I had planned to go for the 2.0 TDI but I am now wavering towards the 1.6 TDI and even the Golf to replace my Sportback which is very noisy and a very bumpy ride.

Any advice on the choice of engine to go with a DSG box which I have enjoyed with the TFSI. BTW just got through my mid-life crisis and don't need another TFSI.

I have a 1.6 TDI (105) and i love it, that said.. id much rather have a 2.0

2.0tdi if you do motorway miles often and want a bit of balance between speed & economy, around the town 1.6 would be enough though. Its up to you

2.0tdi would be ideal, from both side economy and speed 2.0tdi is the one. 1.6tdi would be just economy i guess but not that powerful

No joke. The 105 TDI has almost the same torque as my current TFSI and with the soaring price of fuel, economy is becoming a factor.

2.0 tdi without a doubt , very little if anything in the fuel economy . I'm currently averaging 49 mpg on a mixture of town and A roads . 60 mpg on a run . Most are struggling economy wise with the 1.6tdi .

Definately 2.0TDI. Although I love my A3 the 1.6TDI is pure and utter rubbish for both power and economy. and I think deep down inside Audi will admit 2.0TDI has better economy!!!

Agree 2.0tdi no question. Both will be alot slower than your used to but atleast the 2.0tdi is higher on torque and power. Have to agree with sub if it's new I'd look at the golf Mark 6. A3 is oldhat now unless your willing to wait a year or so till the new ones out.
With regards to economy I've managed a stonking 75mpg and often get over 60 and 650 miles from tank. I have a feeling from previous threads 1.6tdi struggles to get this.
