This is how I found my car this morning....

Been on the phone to Auto Glass who want £170 to fit a new window (OEM they say).
Also spoken to my insurance company (Elephant) and they use National Windscreens. This will cost me £70 and not affect my NCB/renewal etc.

Obviously heard of Auto Glass, but never heard of National Windscreens. Has anybody used any of these glass companies??? How did you find the work etc???

Also, you can see from photo three that the window frame is bent. The door looks straight etc, just looks like they've bent the window surround.
Gonna try to bend it back myself.

I feel sick!

Theres too many scum bags in tis country who need rounding up and shooting.

Did they take anything from the interior?

On a lighter note, door glass is actually easy to fit, you only need to take your door card off to do it, take you about 30 minutes. I cant see a breakers wanting more than 20 quid for some door glass either.

Nah nothing taken from the interior apart from mentioned sat nav.
Think I'll just pay the £70 to national windscreens and let them do it rather than trying to find a window and fitting it myself.
Time is against me too, gotta get this sorted before the day is out cos I've got no garage to store the car over night.

I'm sorry to hear about that - don't let them get you down buddy...

Sorry to hear about this fella. Really p*sses me off when this happens.
Not used National windscreen but i've heard of them...Call Elephant back and say you want to use Auto Glass, all that person got to do is all Auto Glass advise them they will be replacing the window and that its only £70 excess. Auto Glass will take his or her name and arrange to sort it out
All Elephant have to do is authorise Auto Glass to repair it :)

cheers man!

I'm just hoping that the bent frame is easily sorted.
Anyone know if it's easy to remove the rubber, so I can try to straighten the metal?

In my time of using them, I always found "rubbers" easy to remove from my straightened rod. Why you wearing them online anyway? Internet safety?

And no, I don't read the bits under our usernames either...

Nice one fella!

Unfortunately already booked national windscreens. I'll see how it turns out. You don't pay until completion so if I'm not happy I won't pay.
Did ask the guy if the match will be right and he said yes, so we'll see!

Took me a minute to work out what you were going on about there!
Haha... Gotta laugh I guess, or I may kill someone.

Day after putting a fake full address in the 'location' part of my profile (for comedy value) and this happens!
Couldn't have written that!!

That sucks ball man.
Its one of the worst feelings in the world, walking out and seeing a window smashed.

Heres hoping that you get it fixed in time.
At least its just a window and a £40 satnav.

Happy thoughts mate. :)

i had my front screen replaced by national windscreens they did a top job. cant complain.

bad news about your car but no one hurt so.. it'll get sorted

Flipping heck mate, sorry to hear about this. Hope you get it sorted soon, and just be glad they didn't do anything like they did to Marc's brothers car over on VAGOC

My Brother's GTI | VAGOC.co.uk

Thanks mate.

And... Wow!!! That's awful what they did to that GTI.

Nice one geezer.

Hopefully I'll be able to straighten out the window frame though, otherwise I've got a feeling this could be more costly than I originally thought.

Thats good to know, thanks mate. Puts my mind at ease a bit.

Looking at the picture of the damage, it looks like its the window guide and not the frame.
You can pick them up off ebay for less than £20 (If i'm guessing right).
Not sure what they are from main dealer.

Assuming I'm correct, this is the part number 8P3 837 440 D

Jeeze, thats bad one. It does make the blood boil.

TBH, I dont think you will be able to straighten the trim to your satisfaction. You might have to get a replacement one.

Hope you get it sort asap mate!

Sorry for you aythreee - hope the window gets sorted ok.

If you can't straighten the piece out I think it's part number :-

8P3 837 440 D (window guide) £60 ish

Good luck mate!

I was just about to say putting your address in your profile was not clever but i see you say its fake !!
Sorry to see the mess, i know we have issues but i dont wish this sort of crap on anyone.

My trim was screwdrivered like that, don't want to put a downer on it but i doubt you will straighten it, the finish shows every little ripple.

Yep, I've been having a look at it is a window guide. Just pulled it away from the frame slightly and have tried to straight it but its not having any of it and the rubber is splitting.
Thanks for the part number!

Thanks fella. And as above, you're right... straightening is looking like a no no.

Thanks mike. Thanks for the part number too.
I'm going to check out a few breakers and see if I can get one. If not, it'll have to be the dealers.

Thanks. Things like this make me realise there's more to worry about (i.e. little scrotes that mess with your possessions) than a bit of tit for tat on the internet.

Cheers.

So, I've just bought a window guide off ebay. Brand new and genuine for £22 delivered. (RRP £59)

Anybody fitted one of these before??? Is it a window frame out job???

Sorry to hear this, this annoys/worries me!

Round them up, lock them up and throw away the key

Just seen this, nightmare mate....least it's getting sorted now

Cheers mate.

All done now. The guy managed to straighten out the window guide quite a lot, but its not perfect.
When the new one arrives I'll have a go at fitting it. According to elsawin you've gotta remove the window frame first though!?

**** man sorry to see what they done to your motor mate but at least it was only a sat nav not something like that golf gti in the pic hope you get it sorted mate

All sorted now. The national windscreen geezer fitted the new window pretty sharpish and other than the non-audi etching in the corner of the glass you can't tell the difference.
Guy wasn't as gentle with my car as I would've liked but all in all he did a good job, all trims etc back how they were.

Sorry to hear your news.

Auto Glass replaced Open Sky front panel on wifes last 8P and messed up big time, glass left swishing around etc. HAd to go to Audi for 2 days to sort out!
Insurance Co. were great though (LV)
Good Luck

I hate seeing stuff like this. Thieving workshy mofos .

Gutted for you fella, really am. At least you can get it sorted fairly cheaply.

sorry to hear about this fella..... STOP thinking about what you could have done to em ;) it takes over ya life for a few days :)

hope you get it sorted, sad to see but always gonna happen in this day and age with some of the scum out there

well at least its sorted now fella any luck with the metal frame ??

Yeah, managed to buy one off ebay for £22. Hopefully it'll arrive early in the week so I can fit it.

I read a few horror stories about the company that did my replacement. Not much to mess up on mine I suppose but all seems well so far. I guess its a lucky dip for which person actually does the work.

Cheers geezer. Also glad its all come in under £100.
£100 I didn't have to spend though.

Nice one mate.
Yeah it did p*ss me off for a few hours. Not so much because of the money/aggro etc... but more for the fact that someone had taken their grubby little hands and did what they did.

Ah well, sh*t happens. And in reality... what happened to me and my window pales in comparison to poor old V6Pete and many of the other stolen/break-in threads, so I should count myself lucky.

Dead right mate - glad you got it sorted (mostly )

Let's spare a thought for those poor buggers in Japan as well as V6Pete.

Feel for you, but glad you have it fixed now. This is happening far too much these days!, Chin up matey
