Hi guys I'm new to the audi world, I have recently bought a 56 plate tdi quattro s line 170 in grey!

I came from a st2 astra vxr so you can imagine the A3 is a different animal so I'd like to make it a little bit different to the normal A3 up here.

So the plan is graphite vmr 710s in 18 x 8.5 with an et 45 I also have v maxx collies on order, will these all fit together with out rubbing? If not what's the solution??

thin i read somewhere or seen photos that you may get a little bit of catching on the brake callipers (tho this may only be on S3's) due to the shape of the wheel... have a search and you should find some photos, so budget for some spacers, which to be honest will improve the stance anyway

Spot on mate, i was going to Pm you but i thought i bet he must get sick of Pms regarding wheels

Nah its all good man, I'm here to help, I hope that when I need help from people, they offer their support as well. Plus its better to ask someone who KNOWS what they are on about/has experience

I found a couple of images on the wheels thread on a grey S3 so thats kind of made my mind up, they were black but i fancy the graphite and the stretch on the tyres looks great!

Next question is where's the best place to buy the wheels? I seem to only be able to find reps?! - and we dont want them

It depends on what tyres you fit buddy

215- you should have 0 rubbing.
225- im a little 50/50 about this. Many people say it will many people say it wont.
235- It will rub.

This is based on the car being wound down alot

Also welcome and nice car! I have the same haha

Thanks for the welcome mate! Much appreciate, i plan to be here for a long time lol

What the plan is is to swap my tyres over from the standard S line wheels, they have an almost spankers set of bridgestones on them and the grip etc is immense, i woke up to 4 inches of snow and my last car (280bhp astra vxr) would have been shaking in its boots going out in fresh snow but the Quat loves it and drives like theres nothing there

I plan to have the V maxx just sitting nice, i use the car daily as a surveyor so i'll need to retain some height.

Pretty excited and cant wait to get them now...

Do you think graphite on grey will look good? I think black is a bit to hardcore for me :scared2:

ahhh thats jords car, those are 19's full on black will make the wheels look smaller and personally i reckon graphite looks better anyway

Yip thats the car, they sit really nice so i guess the 18's will give me more room to play with and allow for more slamming when the better weather arrives :yahoo:

I have emailed around 5 firms and i think they are all US but £770 to my door seems about the going rate which is cheaper the the BBS CH wheels i was looking at getting first...

VMR sell them direct as well, not sure on their cost... and as they are coming from the US does that include the import tax youll have to pay on them?

Hey Paula! Nice to see a familiar comrade!

Ive got the big plans but weather or not i will pull them off is another matter!

Im just desparate to get modding but theres a good bit of researching to do first and finding the best deal on the vmr's is the first port of call.

I have my yellow lamin x and yellow fogs ready to fit, the v maxx coils are en route, black optics grill conversion is on its way so wheels next and then a busy weekend to fit it all then i will get the pics up :eyebrows:

How you getting on with your S3? Lovely car and cracking spec! :s3addict:

haha VMR took a few days to get back to me when i asked them, think their quote was everything including import tax, but not sure

Wow, that all sounds amazing, Dude! I'm also considering some coilies, but obviously because of my injury I need to do some homework first on which ones will give me the best ride comfort. I think the optics grille will look awesome on your beastie. I'm loving the S3, ..kinda goes without saying! Fab motor, ..don't quite have the same sweaty palm syndrome that driving the Burg gave me, because of the DSG box, but it's still pretty FAST! Look forward to seeing your piccies, when all's fitted.

The handling on the new motor is awesome! Miss the speed of the vixer though the dirty derv is lacking some ponnies atm lol!

Did you buy off them in the end? I wonder how long it would take to get something from the states to here... Ponder...

na didnt in the end, ive decided that when i do change my wheels im going lightweight with OZ ultralegerras, but they arnt cheap and will be the final touch to finish the car off

Ultra's are a very nice wheel mate! Expensive your right...

Just an update guys, i have had contact back from the american's and it turns out to my door i am looking at just under £600! - Delighted

Only issue/worry i now have is import tax, i dont know anything about this but i know a friend was £20 for a baeks anti roll bar for his Teg so i imagine a set of wheels aint going to be cheap?

Any advice or chat on this??

I used to order some parts from america and the guys in the shop marked the value of everything as $5 so if i got nailed on import tax it was going to be very little. They can also declare the item as a gift and no tax will have to be paid. best bet is asking the seller what they can do as surely they must export quite good quite often

Best wheels for an A3/S3 ever

Careful of ordering from the States as i did, customs will slap you with an import charge of around £200 matey

Some pics of mine on my old A3 with a 65mm drop on Weitec's

Very nice mate! Im going to go for them in graphite because my car is kinda graphite as well, what size and offset did you go for??

Ive had a quote for 18s for just under £600 so if its £200 on top in duty i think that still going to be a saving over what niche are selling them at, im awaiting a quote from them as well. They do however seem to be hard to get, one US firm said they dont know if and when they will get more sets in and offered a good Deal on VB3?! Im not sure...

I had a contact of someone who worked for VMR, but he doesn't anymore i'm afraid

I would get 19s if i were you, 18s just don't look right

I can't remember the offset mate, but they only do 1 offset for the Audi and they fit perfectly. I spaced out the rears using 8mm spacers and they sat right in the arch, was spot on

I had 215 tyres with a little bit of stretch to save on rubbing

Ive managed to make contact with a guy at volocity but hes saying he cant see them getting anymore in for a bit so nightmare...

I would love to get the 19s but i do alot of miles mate and replacing 4 19's every 6 months will be big pain, i think i will go check out tyre prices etc on camskill and see what we are looking at of a difference between the 18s and the 19s...

They do look sweet on the 19s!

Are spacers the way to go to get the stance right on the rear?

Difference will be minimal mate, get the 19's!

The extra 8mm on each rear wheel made it perfect

For the difference lads im just going to go with the 19's now thanks to Jord for bending my arm haha!

Now i need to know tyre size, wheel dimensions and spacers??

And will these be cool with v maxx collies?

Here's jordans old wheels on mine freshly painted in gloss grey.Standard suspension with falcon 225/8.5 19''.There is a slight bit of rubbing over big bumps from the rear somewhere but it is only slight. You will be better off with 215 if you want no rubbing at all but cornering will be way different, thats why i put 225 on.

Sweet mate they look gorge in grey, thats what colour i was planning on putting mine! lol

With reference to cornering i would like to retain as much of the original handling as possible as its a quattro and awesome, all my previous cars have been a handful in the handling department so the quattro is a mega improvement to my driving.

Ive only this morning sourced a set of black BBS CH's with the red lip for £400 notes so i am going to stick them on for now because after reading alot of comments and taking advice on board there is no point in rushing mods...

If your ever selling them mate drop me a pm??

My coilovers have arrived this morning and a massive thanks goes out to N8! Great guy to deal and a smooth transaction
