Yellow gunk inside oill filler cap

Hi,

I am currently in the market for an A4 sport and my mate is looking for a TT.

We have seen 3 different TT's with the 1.8T engine.

One of them had really bad yellow gunk (Looks like mayonaisse). The other 2 had a very slight amount of the yellow gunk.

I was under the impression that this normally points towards headgasket issues. Surely all 3 cars did not have headgasket problems.

Is this gunk common on these engines?

The reason I put this in the A4 thread is because I might end up with the 1.8T B6.

if the gunk was in with the oil or in the water bottle walk way its the head gone unless your getting it for stupid money and want to put a new engine in it. there is a very small chance its just as its done very short trips but if you do want to buy it take it to any loacal garreg and ask them to test the head my cost you 20 pounds or so but better than a new engine

well if thats what you mean its nothing to do with the engine ?
or from what your post says you ment on the oil cap ?

I meant to say oil filler cap.

I checked the dipstick on the 3 cars and only one had a spot of gunk on the dipstick.

I have mayo sometimes due to short journeys,before buying though get an AA check on the car wazz

oil in the cooling system does not always mean the head gasket as gone i have seen this many times and it as been caused by a leaking oil cooler

i beg to differ the oil cooler is a weak point on audis its made from very thin aluminium and corrodes easely . thankfully the oil presure is higher than the water presure so the oil goes into the coolant and not vice versa if there is no mayonaise sludge in the engine only oil in the coolant i gaurantee its the oil cooler at fault

I second that. More common that head gasket problems

that maybe true im but i was just saying in my point it looks like the head had gone as he says it had mayonaisse looking stuff in one he looked at if you read his first post. and if you read my first post i say there is a small chance its some thing like short drives can some times do this too
