Hi,

Im new around here and am thankfull to find this site as there are alot of people in the same boat as me it seems when it comes to my "new to be" car.

In Mid jan I ordered my first Audi. A 2011 A4 Avant (170) Quattro Black Edition with lots of options. I was told at the time that it may be March/April and infact there was no build week.

I am now hearing the tune of May/June. Infact the dealer said he expects that the build week will be early May but there is a chance that they will be making a specification change in June/July meaning they will hold on to the car until this change has been implemented!!!

This is a surely ridiculous! Or am I being naive? 7 months wait!

Went to the BMW and Mercedes show room yesterday to dip my toe and surprisingly nothing came close to what I was after. Looks like it will be a long wait.

Oh and should I go for the 30mm suspension drop or the 20mm?????

Thanks

Chris

30mm and welcome

I have the 2.0 TDI SLINE AVANT 170 BHP.I could not have the 30mm drop cos i ordered it with 19" wheels and had to sufer a 20mm drop. You MUST have the 30mm drop.20mm is like driving a 2cv.And yeah. The long wait is normal for a personal specced car.

The long wait is due to part shortages affecting many manufacturers. Google it and you'll see the issue.

The MY change normally happens around week 19/20 AFAIK, that certainly was the case for my current S3. I have been quoted some dates for an A4 BE Saloon today which is a build W/C 16th May.

I wonder if your dealer is unable to give a build week as they've sold you a car which they don't actually have an allocation for. My build date today came as soon as the car was put on the system.

That's unfortunately something that happens way too often.

That's certainly my thoughts.

Giving you a build date invokes a customer care policy backed by Audi which means that if your build date is moved right you can still trade in your car at the agreed date and recieve the agreed amount and they will supply you with a loaner.

If your dealer cannot give you a build date then I don't think they've ordered your car personally. Time to visit your dealer and ask some questions I think Chris.

The whole thing is taking the shine off of getting the car. When we were told April delivery estimate we foolishly booked our summer hold and trips away. Now that I'm looking at June we won't have the car for the planned trips.

When I saw the dealer at the weekend he showed me some Audi spreadsheet and my order with a reference number. He said thats my car.

What questions should I be asking him to get the answers I need?
Also he said to "help out" he can temporary sell me a similar car until the new one arrives and then give me a guaranteed by back price....

Finally should I really go with the 18" and a 30mm drop? Surely the 19"s and a 20mm would look better??

I am hoping for an update on my delivery today. I was told I will still be getting the 30mm drop with 19", although I know from previous orders it defaults to a 20mm. Will be questioning this if it doesn't happen as I don't want it to look like a 4x4 ( and I don't mean a quattro!). In answer to your question, 19" should be the same overall 'rolling' diameter to the 18" wheels with tyres on. So the extra 10mm lower does make a difference in the gap between the rubber and the arch.

I am just about to place my order, in Avant spec and 2.0T. Im getting vibes of July delivery?

I currently have a loaner A4 2.0 T S Line with S Line 30 mm drop on 18"'s and the ride is lovely. Obviously thats a personal and subjective comment but coming from x3 BMW M Sport's its a much nicer ride, even grips better IMO. I took my wife and kids out in it yesterday and had no complaints about the ride qaulity. If anything it doesnt wallow when cornering so nobody gets thrown around so much, as in my Toyota Avensis hire car for example. I live in a rural area with very bad uneven A/B roads, big potholes etc etc. My dad had a go and thought it turned in better and had more roadfeedback than his 535M Sport with 19"'s.

The car does scrabble a bit though in the wet if driving hard, and does tramline if accelerating hard on uneven surfaces, which tbh would happen in the majority of reasonable powerful fwd cars with big wheels.

I took an A5 out with 19"s and the 20mm set up and thought that was great, felt very sure footed on the motorway, turned in well, no probs really?

Im going to be taking a bit of a gamble with the A4 Black Edition with 19"' and 30mm drop but ho hum!!??

Hope this helps.

How can 10mm make a car look like a 2cv or 4x4 I realise this is exaggerated but it's only 10mm! :)

I agree with you on this, although some A4 S line's ive seen lately have a slight jacked look to them, the S Line with S Line shocks I have now looks a lot lower, very close to the wheel?

Maybe it is quite a visible difference, or maybe its just me/wheel type etc??? LOL

All interesting stuff, I've had a similar challnges with my Black Edition order placed back in Nov '10. Was due March '11, advised 2 weeks ago its now July '11. Tried to discover more, but dealer unable to add more info. So today went in to see them, to be told I now have a build week of WK16, which makes delivery due Mid May. They have confirmed they will honour the original deal, so will keep my car until new one arrives, they also agreed to service my current A4 FOC, as a gesture of good will for the delay, service due in March. So here's hoping new car arrives in May now, only 2 months late.

Ordered mine with the 19" alloys on the 30mm S-Line suspension, no noise from dealer that it can't be done. In the Oct '10 brochure I based my order from, it clearly states available on Black Edition.

Do we know what MY changes are likely on a B8 A4 this year at around WK20-21? Would it be better to wait now for the MY changes?

Im not saying it LOOKS like a 2cv. Im saying it HANDLES like a 2cv.19" wheels with a 20mm drop is ****.And if you want to have a blast in mine your welcome.Cos im fed up with mine.Even with a 28mm frnt and a 23mm rear arb, its still ****.My only option is new springs...to give me a 30mm drop which is what should have been fitted when I ordered it but stupid audi wouldnt do itThat 10mm is a MASSIVE differance. And its not a tyre issue either, ive had bridgestone reo50a, bridgestone s001, conti sportcontact 3 and goodyear eagle f1 asym.Ive yet to try michelins, but what im spending on tyres i could buy a new car!

Ahh ok so it's the drive and handling it effects? Coming from a long history of crappy pick up trucks I'm purely interested in aesthetics as I know whatever it's sitting on will be heaven to drive compared to anything else I've ever had.
Gonna stick it out and wait for the new one to come in June/July Seen a few nice ones on Audi website but its all about the black edition with those wheels!

I would be so ****** off if I'd ordered in nov10. Anyone else got one on order?

I initially ordered a BE last weekend but have decided to change it to an S-Line and add some of the spec of the BE to it - Mad you think??

My primary reason for going down the BE route was to get the privacy glass but as I have decided to go with a saloon and not Avant, this isn't an option. I'm also not overly keen on the BE wheels and wanted the RS4 style 19's but clearly this isn't an option either. I also don't really favour the piano black inlays, again these cannot be changed on a BE.

All in all there didn't seem any point in having the BE so I've amended my order to an S-Line with B&O and the RS4 style 19's as well as the S-Line Sports suspension (Which incidently I had also had confirmed ok for build on the BE). The AMI will be included with the Tech Pack High and I had already added the full parking pack including camera.

It makes the car about £350 dearer but it means I get the wheels I want. the nicer S-Line inlays and a little bit of chrome around the windows. As I've ordered a 3.0TDi Quattro it will come with the black front grille surround according to the latest brochure which is one thing I did want.

I'm keen to know what changes will come from the May MY change, my dealer hasn't been able to tell me yet though. I guess that is going to affect most of us here. It happened with my current S3 and the changes were quite significant making a lot of optional equipment standard along with a price increase to cover them.

I should hopefuly get a call today with the build date for my revised order. Fingers crossed.

I placed my order today, but through my lease company. I won't know anymore until Audi receive the order, which should be asap.

I did speak to our nominated Audi dealer on Tuesday, and was told they are not even giving build dates now. So basically can place an order but will have no idea when I'll get it.

I've resigned myself to a long wait.

Mine is now confirmed build week 9 (next week)

Ordered when?

Just found this

However John Lewis, chief executive of the BVRLA, said that one of the main factors influencing lead times was exchange rates.
“The UK distribution arms of the main manufacturers have to bid for their allocation of vehicles and this usually has to be done in Euros,” explained Lewis. “They can fall pretty far down the list when the pound is weak making UK supply less profitable than other countries.”
In a Fleet News poll, nine out of 10 respondents (90%) said they were experiencing delays in vehicle delivery times, with Audi and Volkswagen seen as the biggest culprits.

24th November, how about you?

I was told provisionally week 8-9 mid December, but didn't get a confirmed build date until this week! (week 8)

I ordered a B8 1.8t Avant BE with 30mm S line drop mid Jan, despite no build date as yet dealer insists I will have car on or around 1st May. Following a disastrous order on a VW Scrirocco (7 Months) for the wife last year I am very skeptical as to when I will see this vehicle.

VAG need to pull there finger out !

Quick update, build complete, been told around 10 to 14 days until collection

I've just been informed that mine is confirmed for build week 20, week commencing 16/05/2011, due for delivery mid/end June

Still unsure about them titainium wheels !?!?

To be honest I am the same, in my opinion they look best with high gloss lacquered finish but I have seen the 18" on the A3 version and they looked a bit dull in some lighting conditions.

Still not heard about my build date. Ordered in mid Jan.
The wheels IMO are awesome. Yeah they may look dull sometimes but as part of the package on the BE it's essential. What are the other wheel options in the same price range?
I think they add a very aggressive look to the car

Other option is 5 segment spoke type, now if the RS5 20" versions would fit............

Audi Sheffield have a lava grey 2.0tdi 170 Black edition saloon available if anyone is desperate, standard spec though, no options i understand.

I am able to upgrade my 19" RS4 rims to a titanium finish approximatly every two weeks or so, it depends upon road conditions, and me making sure i dont wash them ;)

Sorry not a fan....

Nice to hear that Audi have started get some new cars into the country for you guys though.

Anyone have any decent images of a BE avant in black with the titainium wheels? can't seem to find any anywhere ?

Ordered min January A4 avant black edition and sadly lacking in concrete information. Still no build week as yet although Audi 'hope' to build car week commencing 11/4/11 (seriously doubt this date) which would put delivery second week of may.

Reading above sounds very unlikely.

My order was placed 2 weeks ago, ive been told early July delivery through fleet compant, "although this date may change" lol!

Its an Avant BE 2.0T with the Segment styel wheels and Alcantara.

If I can get it before our family break away end of July ill be chuffed!

ordered mine in Nov '10, just had verbal confirmation of WK16 build week, delivery mid May I am assuming now.
