VCDS logging suggestions on what to log.

Right I've just spent £50 on silicone hose, I'm going to get to the bottom of this problem :banghead:

After i've finished with this lot there will only be a few hoses left. The upper and lower boost hoses will get done when I get my FMIC. ****** ***** rubber hoses!

Good to see you battling on through dude. It'll be worth it in the end - some things are a pain, and are expensive, but keep your eye on the prize....

It seems like every bit I replace, my fluttering/boost leak gets worse! Sodding thing. I've got a load of 8mm and 13mm hose so I can do all the charcoal canister hose and all the ***** round the inlet mani too.

Will I be ok running with a boost leak for the next few days? The car seems to be running ok until i'm on boost then it just gets very noisey with air rushing about!

Yeah, it won't do any lasting damage really. Don't drive it hard obviously though.

I think i've found a problem! I dont think its the cause of the fluttering but I think it is my main boost leak. Yesterday I noticed that a jubalee clip had been rubbing on the boost hose that runs from the charge pipe into the drivers side SMIC. This clip has been there since the summer when I simplified my breather hoses and fitted my catch can. Last night a strapped up the hose with tape where it had been rubbing and today the rushing air noises has gone.

I have some upper and lower boost hoses on order so I hope they arrive before the weekend.

Well done Westle, lets hope this is the cause of your problem.

Thanks mate. I've got enough silicone hose on order to replace the remaining boost hoses so I'm hoping the car will be back to its best again. The clip causing the problem was one thats holding in the one way valve for the brake servo. It was rubbing against the boost hose and had picked away at the outer rubber. The boost leak must have been getting slowly worse since the summer. I've order 2 90 bends to go around the boost hose so this should ensure that any clips are away from the new hose when it's on.

Sounds likely mate - leaks will put everything out, both on boost and idle..

Fingers crossed dude.

Nice one Westle, hope it sorts it mate.

Ok the tape I put round the possible boost leak didn't last long! Noise and power loss were back last night. Luckily the postman had been this morning and delivered my upper and lower boost hoses. I'm also hoping to get all my othe silicone bits later today too so tonight i'll be getting it all on.

Will report back in the morning ;)

Ok, last night I fitted my intercooler hoses. 1 from charge pipe to drivers side and 1 from passenger side to throttle body. This morning I still have the boost leak!

I am going to open a complaint with my eBay seller of the forge turbo hose which still hasn't arrived and they have ignored my emails. Tomorrow morning i will remove the existing red turbo hose again ang check it all over again.

I'm running out of hoses to replace and I still cant pin point the leak. If replacing the red hose doesn't fix the leak then I'll be ordering a FMIC in the next week!

Have you thought about a smoke test or pressure test to find the leaks....may save you bashing your head against the wall...lol
They are a pain, did you do the catch can?

I had a pressure test done 2 years ago and was told there were no leaks anywhere, not even in the SMICs. I've not tried a smoke test yet, think i might phone around and see who can do one locally.

This has been a good exercise though because most of my old rubber hose has now been replaced with silicone ;)

Catch can was all done last summer and I've checked over all the new oil hose I put in for the PCV system and it's all fine.

EVAP can
brake servo hose
split in tip
pipe from smic 1 to smic 2
duff forge dv

keep trying

The leak sounds like its drivers side so I'm thinking charge pipe or SMIC.

Brake servo hose has been simplified since catch can install was done. I also have some silicone and a new one way valve to replace that hose.
Tip is a 6 month old Autobahn TIP so I soubt that's a problem.
The hose from 1 smic to another is a possibility and If the smoke test shows this as the fault, I'll be getting a FMIC
I've checked the DV and it is working fine.

Well all my silicone turned up on Saturday so I set about fitting it. All i'm still waiting for is my Forge red charge pipe hose, which is 2 weeks late as the eBay seller has stitched me up!

Anyway I found my leak! The red charge pipe hose had started coming away from the charge pipe and that's where boost was p*ssing out. I'm going to do some logging later today now the leak has gone but the car still feels down on power!

Here is an engine diagram and what I've changed on my car. The green hoses are new and the orange components are new too.

Cheers Westle, very handy diagram, thinking about doing all my pipes too...

Nice one :)

No worries mate, I cant take credit for finding the diagram as Tuffty found it a while ago. I can only take credit for my updated diagram ;)

I'm running out of things to change now to try and combat my lack of power! I think I'll have to wait for my visit to Bills and see what he finds.

Just did some logging and I'm still down on power. Only 191gs from the MAF (238ish bhp)

Since fitting a new N75 I have no boost spike and the timing isn't being pulled any more that 3.8 degrees so that's much better.

What's the highest G/s you can recall having, isn't just the map is it ?

I've just done a throttle body alignment but it's made no difference, I cant get above 191gs. Once apon a time I recorded 204gs with the same map.

Anyway I also found this in VCDS so I think it's time to address the CAT and sensors:

Interesting, I'm sure when I was last logging my car I got the same results on the Catalytic Converter check and another box, but my car recently passed its MOT no problem :uhm:

Another thing to check.....
