Audi Recall ( all petrol engines)

whats the oldest audi thats had a coil pack recall done? thanks some1 fro this thread or sum1s mate etc lol as mines 1998 n if i can get 1 ill only do it for the cotuesy car ;)

Mine's booked to go in too. 2003 S3, 80k miles. They offered to wash it and clean it inside & out for £14.95. No way! I'm not having them scratch my OCD paintwork with a sponge full of crap.

I'm going to be really clear with them when I drop it off that all I want them to do is to replace the coil packss & give me the car back. No diagnostics etc etc. Just dod the job and leave everything else alone. Might help myself to a coffee from their posh machine whilst I'm there though.

ah good call Doc, I will tell them to just change the coil packs and not touch anything else

surely they will have to scan it for ignition related faults before fitting though? and like wise once they are fitted and the car has been run. I know its not necessary but if thats what they are briefed to do then that is what they will do.

Rang Isaac Agnew Audi in Belfast today got mine booked for the 16th March for coil pack and free health check, they said they would need the car for the day so also got them to pay for a taxi to and from work :)

I got told it would only take an hour!

Well I have the same concern as you do, so I'm going to ask them just to do the installation. It's due a service in a few weeks anyway, for which I'll take it to my preferred VAG independent specialist in Nottingham (C&R).

Yea agree with you Dave, think im just going to ask just for the coil packs to be changed and no more.

You might aswell get the free health check while your there, it's free but you have to ask for it ;) I don't know why they want it for the day but im at work and it will save me having to pay for parking in Belfast anyway :D

well just got back took an hour and 5 mins they did not push any other work on me

feels a bit smoother at low revs so possibly 1 or 2 of the packs were breaking down can tell its been done as one the screws for the plastic engine cover is missing. It felt weird sitting in a main dealer having warranty work done on a 10 year old car as there were a lot of brand new cars sitting in the showroom and the staff were a bit sterile but i suppose they are used to people who but newer cars
cheers

when I was booking my car in for a service last nite, asked about coil packs and they said they would change them for free...:) dropped it off this morning. cheers for the info guys...something tells me if I hadn't mentioned it they wouldn't have said anything, lol.

mates got a a6 1.8t on a 1998 is that included in this does any 1 know ??

I just called Nottingham Audi for my 2002 S3 and I am booked in tomorrow at 8:30 for the work. No courtesy car though as I will wait for the work (1 hour).

Thanks again to the OP for the heads up :)

2001 S3 AMK booked in for thursday next week. No fuss and very polite at Ipswich Audi.

Guys, quick question for those that have had the coil packs replaced, has anyone asked if they can keep the current ones that are fitted to the car and have been replaced or are Audi keeping them??

Would be good, as I presume many have got decent ones in the car that still does the job and would be good to have spares?

Audi will keep them as my job card had warranty stamped all over it so they will have to tag and send them back to Audi so that they can claim for the price of parts and labour

cheers

any idea weather they ran any diagnostics on it? is your car mapped?
Mines going in at 8 tomorrow morning, going to have to drum it in to them that i just want them fitted and no diagnostics ran!

Well it's booked in next Saturday.
Got them to send a paint report to audi uk re roof rail. Cheers again love a freebie ;)

Why do we need to change our coil packs, what are these things doing which requires them to be changed?

In what way do they fail, what are the symptoms of a failing coil pack?

Think i will get this done with a few other things in a few months time

Had my S3 looked at today - after waiting for over an hour it didn't need any changing as they were up to spec. But the healthcheck did bring up a crack in a rear spring, leaky power steering pipe and a dodgy CV boot. Great.

Mine were all sorted on Wednesday without any hassle (2001 AMK), picking it up this afternoon.

The only thing they brought up in the health check was that my windscreen washer jets were pointing in the wrong direction. Either my car is in tip top condition (unlikely) or they aren't too fussed about the extra work with all the coil packs they are replacing.

If they have flashed my ECU they will definitely be paying for a new remap. Reckon it'll be a Revo stage 2 for the inconvenience!

just got mine back.
I queried the ecu updates etc before it went in. I was told that they would simply fit the coil packs and there would be no need to carry out diagnostics.
Iv taken there word for it, the car certainly feels like it used to....
They did a health check, all they managed to find was discoloured rear indicators and missing engine cover screws!
They fully valeted it aswell.

Did anyone get given an S3 for the day.... That's what I want! (when I eventually get round to booking mine in) AMK here.

Well just had 2 coils go on me my car booked in for next so I phoned Audi and they told my bring them with me.

Got mine done today, wasted visit tbh, they only changed 1 coilpack, the others weren't in the recall. So....went out and bolt myself 4 Hitachi bolt downs instead:)

didnt know you can still get them, where and how much $$

They're are getting difficult to find Dave, GSF had 1(£24), Eurocarparts had 2 (£34 each). Going back to Euro tomorrow to see if they've got me another Hitachi

They have a Beru sticker over the top but i read somewhere that these were still made by Hitachi, either way they do look well made compared to push down. Will get pics up tomorrow of both the superseeded push downs and the bolt downs

Well bremi or whatever are the reason for the recall...( bmws have the same problem) so may be good to get hold of the last remaining few.......
side note....all the engines will except the bolt down packs iirc if you are thinking of track days etc..

Yeah i think any 1.8T with a 4pin plug on the harness will take the bolt down, GSF are now starting to get Bremi as replacements for the Beru ones, they tried to give me them but i had my doubts hence the reason why i'm now running around finding Beru's lol
