One of the two cars that I'm interested in is listed as a Sport online and on the log book but is badged up as an S Line, S Line leather deats, S Line steering wheel, S Line bumpers etc...

I asked the salesman about this and he said sometimes this can happen but assures me that it is an S Line.

How do I know if this is the truth? I do tend to believe him as it seems a hell of a lot of trouble and expense to convert a Sport to an S Line to this level.

What do you guys reckon?

Its only a step up in trim from a sport ,And is not a huge job to do.Iirc there named as sport on log book aswell.

Yeah early cars are normally registered as sports. This was because S line pack was an optional extra on the sport model. At the time an S-line model did not actually exist.

make sense?

If its an newer car then i'd be wary, check its got the dark headlining!

Mine says S-line on the log book but it's the facelifted one, as said think up until 2005 it was only a option pack on the sport as didn't have different bumpers etc

This one is a 2006. Is it just the bumpers that are different on the facelift?

What things can I look out for to confirm that this is genuine S Line and not a Sport that someone has done up themselves as I know its not just cosmetic as the suspension is stiffer on the S Line.

That is a facelift in the link, very surprised it doesn't come up as an S-line...although could be genuine mistake rather than something more sinister

One little clue i have found is S-lines have an additional tyre pressure sticker on the hinge of the petrol cap flap for 18", 225/40 wheeels/tyres..:)
That car looks s-line to me, its sitting a bit lower 18" s-line wheels, dark roof lining etc...

My s-line shows as a Sport on the LB but its pre face lift.

10 mm lower suspension is it ? looks genuine enough to me .Probably built in 2005 so is older model only registeted in 2006 ? Not to sure but nice car .

I've just rang them up and asked them what colour the headlining is... he went away and came back saying a very dark grey.

I take it that this is what the S Line should have yeah?

If you can get hold of the service book, inside the front cover there should be a sticker with a list of codes. Persuade the salesman to photocopy this page and then use the decoder from the following web site, VW Group Option Codes Decoder and you will be able to ascertain just exactly what options/standard equipment the car was built with.

And if it's a proper S Line then it shouldn't show any S Line features as extras yeah?

The salesman assures me that it is a proper S Line and that sometime these things happen with the DVLA and log books but when I'm spending this kind of money, I need to be sure.

This car I'm looking at has the facelift S Line front bumper which is what confused me as the earlier Sport models with S Line as an extra had the older Sport front bumper. It also has the dark headlining.

It's a 2006 56 plate - is this one of the older models?

Oh well if pilot is handing out badges then i will elaborate and say that at that time S-line was an open ended spec as you could have an S-line interior and no s-line body work or vise versa. So......you cant tell an S-line from its bumpers etc :) Badge please :)

If it's an S Line one of the codes will reflect this. On my A4 the code E4J when decoded came up as "S-Line". The codes will give you everything built into the car at the factory

I see, so if this is indeed a sport with every S Line feature added (which is does look like it), is there any difference between this and a proper S Line that was released a little later?

Anotherwords is there any downside to having a Sport S Line rather than a proper S Line?

I wouldnt worry mate, S lines are common as dog poo these days! Repmobile spec!!

Really anyone can turn a sport into an S-line without much trouble apart from the dark head lining so i cant see it really matters anyway. Once everyone has the s-line it will be a race to convert them to Sport :) bit like the twin grill single grill............my car is becoming ultra rare now as its the only one in the universe with a twin grill........people will be changing back soon just for the exclusivity
