I know of a few people in the b6 forum who've done it, so can only assume it can on the a3. As far as I remember it's an easy one and relatively cheap. Take a look over there.

iv done it in b6 b7
around £70 for the brackets bolts etc and a half hour job
back seat up bolt brackets in even a woman can do it

Yesh it can be done if has the bolt holes according to etka & need the gaps to push through the seat base into the retainers, same part listed for saloon/avant.
