HI

Can anyone help me? I'm interested in fitting the new Flatbottom streeing (come on s3, tt's and rs4's) wheel and from what i have read i could possible also fit cruise control aswell at the same time.

I have a a3 04 reg 8p. my current steering wheels is standard. Prefrably i want the neew steering wheel to have buttonns i.e volume control etc, it this possible and can i wire them up to work?

I would appriciate and part numbers/price and any other information please,

Thank you,
Jimmy

Flat bottomed steering wheels regularly come up on here or E-Bay fella - just keep an eye out. Costs depend on whether it comes with or without the air bag. And yes, they come with the volume controls etc - just do a search on here & look at pics.

As for cruise, you can get the bits for around £100 & either fit yourself or be lazy like me & pay around £200 all in for parts & fitting.

Do a search mate - 'fbmfsw'

There a loads of answers and there are also loads of different combinations.

It is likely that, for your year of car, the cost of parts will be in the region of £750 and then they will need coding into the car. Try these for a start :-

They will give you a taste of what you need to know and what you have to do !

quick question... is your car an 8P1 or an 8P2 (split grill or single grill?)

I forgot to mention that if your car does not have the 'shield shaped' airbag and 3 spoke wheel then your car has a single action airbag and the whole airbag system in the car will need to be changed to dual stage.

Not sure if this would be feasible.

the double grill, thats another mod i am wanting to do, put an s line front bumper (06 plate)

I thinkk i have figure out what mfsw stands for - multi functioning steering wheel but what is fbmfsw?

04 is early split grille Mr Jungle!

Oh and Jimmy, do you understand that the airbag wont work? Can be an issue if your safety conscious!

Yeah he will be stuck with this problem as his will have the early wheel. It will only need changing if he actually wants the airbag to save his face in an accident, doesnt bother most!

Hey mike, I have done some research and looked at the threads you suggested but still really confuesed, My budget is about 300-400quid, don;'t really want to go over that

haha that was why i was asking, yep split grill = no air bag on FBMFSWs!

good luck with that, Flat bottom wheels are always £500ish, the cruise will cost you another £100 and if your car doesnt have DIS, you could be in for a new steering wheel slip ring and steering ECU at £300+

Lol, i know i prob sound dumb, I'm only 18 though and this my second car so don't have too much car knowledge lol, The air bag thing not a big prob, i don't mind if it won't work

Sorry mate - can't be done !

The fb wheel and airbag is at least £450 - 500. if you can find one on ebay. Wheel alone from Audi is £500 plus airbag !

Steering control module £160

Slip ring £60

CC retro kit £100

Then it needs coding with special kit. Cost at Audi independant £60 ish.

Don't think your insurance company would agree!

So all in all looking at about £800 as a rough estimate? (that with the airbag not working aswell)

I have seen the flat bottom steering wheels for about £170ish on ebay with out the airbags

I hate insurance companies, have enough prob getting insured as it is lol, would any lights come on in my dash e.g. the air bag light? as anyone done this on the same car i have?

Sorry mate - I have tried to help you but I cannot agree with your attitude.

How can you not have an airbag and still get the horn to work ? The horn is part of the airbag and is a requirement of the MOT !

The car mod can be done but if you want to do it please do it properly.

As they say on 'Dragons Den ' - I'm sorry but I'm out !!

yes but its the airbag thats costs the cash. They are specific to that wheel type and are rarely for sale on there own.

Where did he mention anything to do with the horn?!?!?

Cheers for your help mike, It wer just and idea to be honest but like you said, if there is goiong to be no airbage, no horn- therefore mot faliure and cost over 600 then i am not going to get it done,

Thanks for your help/advice everyone

Could i not Just buy this and then the relevaent airbag and swap it for mine, that is what i originally planned but...
... now i fear too many complication
1) no air bag
2) horn not work
3) other such as coding and other thing i don't understand

Right for the price it is cheap but the airbags gonna cost a fair bit unless you keep it and keep trawlin ebay for a bargain .You should then get it wired proper to not cause issues .If you have the cash its worth doing it right ...i was going to buy this but want other things first ,,,

I do want to do it right, the wheels look really nice.
Doing it though is out of my budget at the moment i think. i am going to do the same and concentrate on other mods first before i come back to this. i do have another option though - a friend of my could possible give me a fbmfsw out of his s3 with air bags etc, just assuming i get the wheel and airbag for free, what extra do i have to do?

Send me a pm and sell me it cheap cheap ;)

What about not having a flat bottom, and just get a multi functional wheel, atleast then you will have an airbag that works! LoL

MFSW arent very hard to fit are they???
