HOWTO: A must do mod - poly dog-bone mount!

i just ordered the red one too fitting it next week would u replace the front bush with powerflex as well wile iv got the thing off for road use or not

Just fitted the yellow one and i am so ****** off.......my car is vibrating like a mofo, feels terrible im going to have to look in the bin for my old one to put back on.....
What a waste of time and money....f*ckin useless, car feels like a right banger....

why didn't you go for the softer diesel version? take the dogbone off and then slightly loosen the tightness of the clamps on the bushes

I have had the yellow one for a little over a year now. You get used to the vibration lol.
As long as you dont stop - you kind of have to roll into junctions/ roundabouts.

I've been running a poly one for 8 years, can't say I notice much vibration apart from when it's idling at a standstill, and even then, it's just very minor through the steering. Give the thing time to bed in, and IIRC, I used both poly mounts, it's crucial to correctly torque it up where it bolts onto the cars baulkhead side also.

I had the powerflex poly dogbone mount on my a3 for about a year, seemed to tighten everything up a bit, but did notice vibrations inside the cabin.
In the week, I found a full set of ths mounts for a bargain price so brought them and fitted them yesterday, all i can say is do it! There is no cabin vibration but yet everything seems so much tighter and firmer.
the old engine mounts could be moved with little effort in my hands, one of them even had a split in it.
I would recommend the THS mounts to anybody, theres also a discount code floating around the net for £40 off from THS direct.

Just a quick question...would it be worth changing the THS dogbone mount with my powerflex bush? not sure if it will make much difference?

You can order the yellow mount for your S3. Just do not over torque the bushes

If i get a set of the red ones from awesome, is it literally just unbold the dogbone, swap the bushes and refit it?

Is it a realy easy job? (S3)

I thought the dog bone mount just stops the engine moving as much. Because it is moving less, it then improves gear selection, simply as there's less chance of something be mis-aligned.

How is a dog bone mount bit meant to improve road handling and make you feel more connected to the road?

Get the yellow one and it is part of your life.....

So, I've read! But how is a dog bone mount bit meant to improve road handling and make you feel more connected to the road? Is it connected with any of the steering or suspension components?

only joking mate the bush is terrible and you are right, no road handling__ it feels like you are more connected cos its like your welded to the engine......(yellow bush)....so gear selection is a breeze.....

I think im gonna have to try this, im getting so fed up with my 1st, 2nd and 3rd being clunky. I have been to 3 garages 2 audi and one private, 2 have said the clutch needs replaceing and one syncros. however when the clutch is not engaged it still clunks around, when under heavy load its like pushing 5kg into gear. However sometimes its not bad at all. From all these symtoms sounds like the mount, i' am amazed no garage picks up on this. Question is i just want it to stop clunking without draw backs, what one should i get, yellow or red?

can someone also send me a link to what one i need to buy lol I'am lazy ya see and dont want to buy the wrong thing

Ok appears the red one is the winner here, do you have to order the front and rear dog mount?

Anyhow, the results... Well an annoying judder has gone when on/off light throttle in stop/start traffic, the gear selection problems have gone and it feels a lot tighter to drive.

Just fitted the R32 dogbone mount to my diesel and it was worth every penny, zero vibrations but you feel ten times more connected and in control. I was amazed just how good the modification is

I think everyone appreciates how this mod can improve gear selection. It makes sense - engine moves less, less chance for misalignment when selecting gear, thus less chance of chrunching. That's the only improvement I've ever read about this polybush.

But can you guys elaborate on the other benifits you felt after installing the dogbone mount i.e. tighter to drive, more connected, more in control. They to me sound like this bush improves handling and or steering...but correct if I'm wrong here, this bush is not connected to either the steering or the suspension? So I don't see how it can improve either steering or suspension.

If there's other benifits from this mod other than gear selection, I'd love to know, because I've not heard them mentioned before. So it would be good to get more info on this, especially if there's improvements to be had for £20 :) . Cheers.

it relates to only gear selection, the comments about tighter, more connected, more in control is all about how the box responds to the user. At this moment in time my gearbox is a dog! it feels clunkey and chunky, unresponsive, i dont feel like i have much control of the car and i feel very detached from the driving experiance.

I changed to the red bushes this weekend. Much better than OEM, no vibrations like the yellow version, far superior gear changes, does feel a little more connected to the road i'd say...but the gear change is the biggest thing. Defo worth doing.

I did new bushes in the front wishbones, new balljoints and track roads at the same time so cant rule out the effect that the superpro stuff has had.....but car feels amazing now.

DO IT!

Yer i'am deffinity going to get the red bushes, how long does the job take? will get my local garage to do it, just hope they know where the dog mount is lol

Easy to do, 10 mins once the car is jacked up. I replaced all the stretch bolts also.....defo no more than 10-20 mins for someone with a little wrench awareness.

Whats strange about my gearbox, is even with the engine off and clutch disengaged the 1st 2nd and 3rd are hard to move into, however when parked on a hil , or going down or up a hill it goes well into gear, must be something to do with the weight transfering onto the mount and etc

Wow! This has made quite a difference. I fitted it last night but only got a chance to drive the car today. The initial vibrations at idle have now gone after about 10 miles of driving. The car feel so solid now and it's almost like the feeling you get from new suspension bushes. Because the gearbox doesn't sway about now under accelerating it makes the gear changes smoother and also pulling away from standstill is improved for the same reasons. I'm impressed.

Ordered my red dog bone mount, will get it fitted on the 9th march...we shall soon see if this cures my peice a **** gearbox

done mine the other week well improved well worth £19 what to get power flexed next

It was this morning which has made me do it, came from a round about up a hill, floored it and the son of a mechanical beast wouldent go into 3rd and made that lovely dog tooth gear chrunching noise, if this mount dosent fix it...not sure what im gonna do
