AUDI A3 VS VOLKSWAGEN SCIROCCO - LETS GET THE DEBATE GOING :-)

Spot on.

Ive driven one back to back with mine and it didnt really feel inferior at all.
Not been in a Mk6 but even the Mk5 Golf is pretty good.

Just beacuse AUDI set the standards in cabin fit/finish/design whatever, doesnt mean that everything else is crap. AUDI set the bar high so most cars seems to be chasing their tail, doesnt mean that everything else has a rubbish cabin.

Rubbish compared to what??

Its all relative, its like a Rolls Royce owner saying AUDIs have crap cabins. They probably are in the eyes of Lord Fonteroy, but in real terms they are very good.

My 2p

Cheers
Paul

totally agree. the Mk6 is a fair bit nicer than the Mk5 tho. if you're considering a higher model Mk6 alongside a roughly equivalent 8P the Mk6 wins hands down. the GTI detailing and hooded intrusments etc. are definitely nicer than my 8P 2.0T S-Line

i think we're getting ahead of ourselves here, people will have their opinions for a number of reasons...i for one just dont like it, not because im an 'Audi boy' but purely because i just dont like it and think the quality difference is obvious...we all have different opnions which is the beauty of a forum, because we can express it.

I dont need anyone making excuses for my opinion and sidelining mine because you think im stereotyping

I have a question, who has actually sat in a Rocco & seen it for themselves in the flesh instead of from a website/magazine, cause I for one have & the Rocco interior actually is pretty slick tbh, feels very comfy inside one of those things imho.

Lord who ?....lol

This frightfully posh chaaahp! Yarp, yarp!

510 makes the RNS-E look poverty man, really does.

I brought this is before and got totally shot down over it. As for everyone ripping the VW interior apart. I had 2 MK5 Gti's before the S3 and the seats for a start are 10x what the standard S3 ones are, then you have the issues with the Stanav etc I brought up before.

Also the pic of the Scirocco someone posted, post of a bobby basic A3 and tell me you still like it as much?

I have - I've driven James's (MarriedBlonde) 2.0T and I wouldn't say that the interior is awful (we are in my Father-In-Laws 2000 Toyota Corolla today - and the interior is truly awful) but it isn't as nice as the A3 IMHO.

Isn't the interior of the Scirocco a little dated? Or is that marketing speak for retro?

Even though i drive an a3 if i were in the market for a new or newish car I would be tempted by the rocco. I think it looks fresher than the a3. The a3 has barely changed for the last 8 years simce the 8p was launched. IMO.

The basic shape is the same though, rear qtr panels etc, "facelifts" only. The rocco is fresh looking I think. Don't get me wrong I love the a3 and love mine and would have to drive both etc beforehand but based on just looks I like the rocco more. I think the entire Audi range (apart from r8 and the q's for obvious reasons) can look rather generic, not a bad thing as they are all attractive cars but the rocco is pretty individual I think.

I mean my 04 tdi is awesome and I don't think you can get a better car for what it does for 5k, but if I were spending 20k then I may have to look elsewhere.

Well it has though really, look an 03 plate dash and a 2011 dash and you'll see quite abit of diff.

Sorry Nat but i dont see that ?, my 04 is the same as a 10 imho. a little bit of tin trim on the knobs and ...well..cant think of anything else ?

\agree seriously i half wish i took the jump wouldnt be feeling the fuel bite that i am now

You would have to save a hell of a lot of petrol to make up the difference between a 07 S3 and a Rocco R !!

Sorry to say it, but thats absolutely spot on, reshaped buttons, chrome knobs & a white lcd is all thats changed, no real design changes that you would call quite a bit of difference, but still appealing to my eye, but the Rocco interior just seems well just comfy man, felt at home with that interior, but guess it was cause its smaller inside, but reminds me of my mk3 vr6's, they felt nice & snug to be inside.

Before I got my S3 I considered a Mk5 GTI and Rocco as well. I personally didn't like the dash or shape of the Mk5, so was left with Rocco or S3. The Rocco is really nice but I didn't want a 2.0T one when I could have had a much faster S3, so I considered a 2.0TDI Rocco with excellent spec but in the end I couldn't help myself and went for the fastest car - the S3!

Of course petrol has rocketed in price since and with the mileage I do and a great dollop of hindsight I would probably have got a TDI Rocco if I had my time again. Personally, I'd rather have a nice specced Rocco than an A3, but the S3 is something special (for me anyway).

Ah..Mk3 VR6.... I loved mine :)

But thing is one spoke...now there isa Rocco R and its quicker to 100 than an S3 !!

that's cos they dropped the Haldex and gave it an electronic front diff instead. i've never driven one, but preliminary reports suggest that it's better for it

i'm a bit edgy about a FWD car with over 220bhp that isn't a Ford.

But I can't afford the R !! It does look better than an S3 IMHO.

When I bought my current S3 though (used, with a £20k budget) in 2009 there was no Rocco or Golf R, so I could either have a Golf GTI or Rocco 2.0T, or an S3 - no contest at the time.

The funny thing is, I found a TDI Rocco with amazing spec at a VW dealer and an S3 at an Audi dealer at the same time. I said to the missus that if the Rocco was still for sale on the Monday morning I was going to go an buy it. It was sold so I got the S3. I really had a dilemma at the time lol But I guess fate stepped in, and I have no regrets with the S3 - I love it and will probably map it at some point and fall in love all over again?! Just wish it did 50mpg!

Guess I could get a VW X1 next :)

Because its polite when potentially contradicting someone :)

Not really paddy, everyone is entitled to their opinion my friend! You shouldn't have to feel sorry for feeling a certain way. Same as if EVERYONE on this site felt that all 2011 A3 interiors were identical to 2004 interiors then I certainly feel sorry if I was the only one who thought otherwise! :noway:

eh? :)

I'm not saying hay are exactly the same and not just talking about the interiors either. I mean if I wanted to I could buy all the parts from any Audi dealer and a private plate and make my 04 exactly the same as an 11 plate. Therefore under the skin they are fundamentally the same car, just facelifts. The Rocco is pretty fresh looking i think. It's a different ball game in terms of an s3! If I didn't do 30k a year i would love one! But if i had 20k to buy an a3 or rocco tdi, it would be the rocco.

I have a Roc R, and it is a great place to be. Yes it is quirky, but I like it.

My GF has a 170 TDi Black edition company car, with 3 out of 4 wheels with extra modification............Less said the better!

The Roc interior is so much better IMO. People will say that I am comparing a top of the range R to a lesser Tdi, but the Audi layout is not right, very dated, same as her previous 3 A3's.

My biggest bugbear is the 12v plug that you often plug satnav/Phones into, just in the wrong place, just next to the handbrake, small gripe, yes.

The R is a great car, so is the S3. Both are very desirable cars TBH.

Ps I paid £26k with RNS 510, Dynaudio, 19's, Folding mirrors, Leather, rear parking, and 5k miles, elec diff XDS Dcc (adjustable suspension that works - 3 settings). Not bad. Now got Bluetooth, rear camera and a whole lot more.

I do like the A3/S3, but it is dated.

Tell us more mate. This the chance to turn this into a proper debate.
What about 265bhp through the front wheels ?? Fuel consumption ?
I am going to look at one today but its got cloth interior etc and its £29k !!. any pointer would be great. :)
