Hey everyone, ok i've been having a debate with a friend of mine on which is better - the A3 VS the SCIROCCO. Now obviously this is a site for Audi lovers so i'm guessing most of you will agree with me the A3 is superior to the Scirocco. I want you guys to give me your opinons on which do you think is better...and why?

I have a Black Edition Sportback on order (due March 11) as i need the extra doors, but if i was going for the 3 door then i would have picked the Scirocco as it is a fresher design.

That said people would now ask why have i chose the sportback over the golf and the reason is the for the Black Edition, plus
worked out cheaper than VW when fully spec'd and i prefer the Audi badge over the VW.

well to start off they both sahre the same chasis as they both are golf originated from the golf sooo it reallys comes down to peoples opinion in general IMO as they both will drive, handle, and perform very similar if not the same (obviously with different engines and gearboxes). For me it has always been like this :-
- Audi
- VW
- Seat
- Skoda

audi being the most prestigeous, so for me the audi will always be over a vw :) Plus in a audi, compared to the over 3 .... they always have that more special feeling and more detail to make the car that little bit better.

I'd have a Mk6 over a rocco, and an A3 over a Mk6

hmm, i'd have a Mk6 over an A3, but an A3 over a 'Rocco

that's purely a looks thing - the Scirocco is a better car but i think the 8P looks nicer. the Scirocco a newer design (tho not one i'm particularly fond of), it has better nav, it handles better due to the revised suspension settings and electronic differential and it's interior is more fitting of a premium car. the 8P's interior has dated now, and the car is due to be replaced in less than 12 months.

Hmm - I prefer the A3 interior myself - found the Rocco one a bit black and bland, however I prefer the external look of the Rocco and I test drove MarriedBlondes Rocco and it did drive very well.

I hate the rear design of the Rocco , but like the front. This was my 3rd on my list when i changed my car.

1st - A3
2nd - MK6
3rd - Rocco

Why are some peoples sigs getting bigger than their posts :)

loved the Rocco when it first came out, but quickly got bored...maybe its the fact that theres a white one around every corner!!?? regardless i agree, my options before buying this included a golf or indeed the rocco, primarily for the newer interface...loved the outside of the golf but both interiors looked absolute PAP

Also feel that the lack of DRL's makes the Rocco look dated...even though the bodies far more advanced... :)

Would have my S3 first but if the Rocco had 4WD then that may be a different matter.

I couldn't make my mind up between the Scirocco and the A3 - At one point I liked the BMW 1 Series but I don't really like the front of them..

I liked the Scirocco because it was a nice design, and wasn't bad value for money! You got plenty of stuff inside and it was well made. I liked the front, the side's but not the back as much because it seemed to flat for me. I did love the seats though, especially the leather (even though I prefer half leather). The steering wheels were flat bottom, and loved this in a combination with the black wheels -Xenons are rather expensive though.

I know someone with the A3, which in my case was a couple thousand more, but it's an Audi.. The A3 had a better look finish inside, and looked a better built car. I prefered the design on the rear, but the Scirocco design was fresh in comparison to the A3 and did look different.. However the A3 I have ordered came with Half Leather seats.

I still couldn't make my mind up, but I decided to go with the Audi. Looking back, I am 100% glad I went for the Audi because I saw Scirocco with winter wheels (wheel trims) and it looked like a Renault!!! After a few years, will the Scirocco still look special? Like the old shape one?

I looked at the Scirocco R before the S3 but the inside was horrid and rear leg seemed somewhat obstructed not to mention headroom.
Obviously no 4WD - Audi wins!!

i've owned audis and vw in the past and IMO the audis have always had the edge, i do like the scirroco but if i had a choice between and rocco and a black edition, i think the audi would win,

I am not so sure about this 4 wheel drive advantage having watched Clarkson in that Focus 500 last night. Even in the wet it was right there with the 4WD volvo and Subaru, Yes its better but lets face it 95% of motorist manage quite well without it and if you want it you really do limit your choice.

As for the Rocco ?? well its nice but the Megane cup shows how it should have looked :) buying second hand ..no contest i would have an S3 over any Rocco but new ?? sorry but i keep pricing up the S3 and it keeps coming out at £35k+ and i cant spend that on what will be an old model next year. with the way the economy is going i think Audi will struggle for a few years soon. Its going to get a hell of a lot worse than it is now and will people still want to splash out £1.80-£2.00 ltr on cars doing less than 30mpg ??

One other point to mention is the rocco hits the rev limiter at 57mph so 0-60 times are not excellent but 0-100 ?? well its quicker than an S3/Megane and Golf R.............not bad for a FWD :)

I had the same decision, A3 or Rocco. For my price range I could get way more of a car buying the A3 (170 S-line) comparing that to a quite basic Rocco.

And after test driving them both preferred the A3 so much more!

Gotta agree if the rocco had awd that would be my choice. AWD not just for the handling but it comes into its own in the recent snow and ice

So now we agree Rocco would be the car we'd all have if 4wd, how about a Cayman morphed RS3...........................................

I agree with a fair few comments on here, the rear looks awful doesn't it? that *** is too wide and shapely for my liking, a3 rear is more compact and doesn't syand out as much.

all this talk of a new A3 next year, we do sometimes forget that the S3 tends to follow 2 years later - meaning theres no excuse :)

The new A3 from renderings look somewhat like the Scirocco! Tbf though, stick some Recaro's in a rocco and it's a fairly nice place to be...

Saying that they've Recaro seating @ the Molineux and that wasn't a nice place to be for Alex Fergie the other day! :ninja:

lovely seats!! but you have to stare at that god awful dash 99% of the time......

But the dash isn't AWFUL in the VW, why do people keep saying that? Yes Rich, chuck a few grand at it and it'll be lovely.

and RNS-510 > RNS-E

thats what someone was harping on about to me when i was looking for this car....the updated navvy which i think is great and id love to have it, its the rest that looks gash..... seriously, the dash when compared to an Audi is a different league IMO

But the dash isn't AWFUL in the VW, why do people keep saying that? .

Spot on.

Ive driven one back to back with mine and it didnt really feel inferior at all.
Not been in a Mk6 but even the Mk5 Golf is pretty good.

Just beacuse AUDI set the standards in cabin fit/finish/design whatever, doesnt mean that everything else is crap. AUDI set the bar high so most cars seems to be chasing their tail, doesnt mean that everything else has a rubbish cabin.

Rubbish compared to what??

Its all relative, its like a Rolls Royce owner saying AUDIs have crap cabins. They probably are in the eyes of Lord Fonteroy, but in real terms they are very good.

My 2p

Cheers
