whats the best product and best way to remove swirls in the paint work.

my car is a liquid yellow colour it contains a pearlesent.

i carnt decide between poor boys swirl 2 or meguires swirl x
i do have a g3 compound but seems a bit heavy for the paint work.

i have sworn by meguires for the past 4 years untill i got to use some of my brothers collinite wax and having used meguires stuff since has started to put me off a little:blownose:

You got a Rotary or DA yeah? Because by hand you will have your work cut out on VAG paint.

I've just got some Menzerna 203s, using that on the Rotary on a 3M polishing pad im getting good results on my Audi paint.

got a DA dont trust myself with a rotary

I also quite like the 203s, but best to start out with the weakest combo first to see if that works. Yes the VAG paint is supposed to be hard but still worth trying the weaker combinations on your car to see if that works first. I went for a set of three menz polishes of varying cuts from polished bliss in the 250ml size ages ago and still going with them.

its not vag paint its been resprayed in renault f1 liquid yellow but he lad who had it before me washed the car once every blue moon i clay bared it when i got it in september and have snow foamed it on new yrs day to get rid of most of the snow and salt grit and that.

my normal routine is:

.pre rinse car with jet wash
.use meguires soft wash gel or the meguires wash and wax
.rinse down all suds once wahed
.cham off with meguires chamy
.bug and tar remover meguires again lol
.apply polish with applicator pad then wipe off with megs soft cloth
.apply collinite wax with applicator pad then wipe of with megs soft cloth
.clean wheels with poor boys wheel cleaner and sealent
.use meguires tyre shine
.clean engine bay with megs engine cleaner and dressing

this is a normal sunday morning every week without fail if to cold put car in garage and do it lol.

.every month or two i use the stage 1 meguires paint cleaner
.every 3-4 months use the clay bar

any other sugestions to improve my routine would be appriciated i have now got a DA as a crimbo prezie not had chance to use it yet though.

meguiers tyre gel? do u use the applictor pod thingy with that? just rbought this gel for myself havent used it yet.what is it like? also ive been looking at gettin the meguiers ew generation spray wax.have u used this or any reviews? thanks

you polish your car and apply wax every week??? why?? thats way to often, you should aim to wax maybe twice/three times a year, the more you wax the more swirls you make.

i would sugest just washing once a week and maybe a a spray with a QD every couple of weeks

i have the spray and just use a small sponge to apply it have used the gel and did the same with that just preffer the spray.

had a quick dabble with the spray wax and didnt find it very good the meguires wax is not the best thats why i use collinite or zymol

that could be why im getting the swirls cheers m8 got bit of a OD when it comes to cleaning the car it starts with a quick wash then turns into a 4 hour clean lol.

will wax the car every 3 months or when going to a show.

what about polish can i use this weekly or just as often as the wax?

It is not true that waxing induces swirls - this will only occur if it's done badly.

Swirling tends to occur through poor wash technique or poor drying technique.

We have a guide to safe washing and drying which should see at least 12 to 18months betwen the need to remove swirls, probably more: Safe Washing And Drying | Car Care Advice | Polished Bliss

You should only have to polish your car to remove surface defects, therefore you should only need to polish, if your guide is followed properly, every year to 18months. Polishes, by definition, contain abrasives which cut into the paint and remove a very small portion of it to reveal a 'fresh' unblemised layer beneath. What Does Polishing Do? | Car Care Advice | Polished Bliss

You can wax your car every week if you wish as wax contains no abrasives and, if applied and buffed carefully, should cause no surface damage.

if the job is done properly mate then there is no need to polish every week at all, i do mine before i go to a show as mine is protected well(with 3 coats of DoDo purple haze) so when it comes to having a wash the car looks tip top once cleaned so no need for polishing or waxing, id say every 3-4 months you need a top up of wax to keep the protection there. as for swirls then if your doing it by hand then you have no chance unless your arms are like arnold sweatshisknickers and the speed of speedy gonzalez lol ideally you need a machine mate a DA should do you fine for removing the swirls but a rotary will be needed for the deeper marks in the paint.

DA will remove the deep marks too, it'll just take longer as the work rate isn't so high.

true but you will be there a while and with some pressure the DA dies, i prefer rotary work anyway but a DA is good enough for enthusiasts to start off, once you go roatery you wont go back :)

cheers for the advice people will stick to washing the car weekly and polish and wax every 3 months and have a few try's on a rotery see if i find it better to use.

I found the 3 stage meguairs worked on mine a treat

i used that for about 2 years then found that the collinite wax was far better than the megs wax the paint cleaner and polish are great.

If you go with a rotary, I strongly advice you use a Paint Depth Gauge, especially if you've been polishing the car on a regular basis, you may have removed quite a lot of paint already.

:)

never even though of that cheers john

will check and will consider if to go rotary or stick with the da
