Hi chaps.

Quick question.

Has anyone on here done a VR6 engine conversion into an A3?

Both being front wheels drive would mean engine is corrrect way round.

Bit of poke, sound great.

Good idea?

aren't 8p 3.2s fairly cheap these days? seems like a easier way round to me.

Sarahsa3 has a 3.2 8p with 8p s3 bumpers etc. that looks, and probably sounds, the dogs.

If your talking about the original 2.8 VR6 lump then its not really worth it, its a heavy lump, the 8L shell is heavier than the Mk3 Golf too, better off staying with the 1.8T lump...

My mate had a Golf vr6 when i had my A3 1.8T which was mapped to 194bhp and there was nothing between them from standstill, if however we sat beside eachother on a duel carriageway in the same gear at the same speed and both put our foot down i'd pull comfortably away...

Think he means the VR6 out of the Mk4 golf and so on that the american tend to put in A4`s with a large turbo making silly power on Audizine. AQP/AUE engine codes.

I think there pretty much the same lump, could be wrong though...

If it was a case of dropping that engine in and spend some money supercharging it then i'd go that route :)

Awesome engine

Not sure on the specs but MK3 was AAA engine code.

034 due a big range of bits and tuning for them. Getting like 600-700bhp some even pushing 800bhp with a rather large turbo in S4`s and stuff.

juicy though!!

But sounds gorgeous and goes like stink :)

A lad near where i used to live used to go past everyday in a MK3 supercharged VR6, you could hear the charger whining...:jump:

What i'm after is something that has a nice sound and goes ok.

180bhp is enough for me really to be honest, but the 1.8T engine doesnt inspire really.

I'm more of a normally aspirated man rather than turbo nutter.

Did they do a 3.2 in the phase 1 A3?

or this? : vw golf v6 2.8 4motion engine on eBay (end time 10-Feb-11 18:44:18 GMT)

No they never made a 3.2 8L A3

My mate had a VW Bora 2.8 4motion, was a nice car, very responsive on the throttle and pulled like a train...

I beat him at GTI international over quarter mile in my A3 1.8T, top end is a different story though

buy an 8P 3.2V6

"modern" interior, nice engine, rapid

why build when you can buy cheaper

"why build when you can buy cheaper"

Fair comment, and thats what i used to say to the 325 boys when they tried to tune them to M3 power......lol.

How easy is an engine swap to a 1.8T then? (from a 1.6)

Only problem with having a 3.2 8P is it will have a silly DSG box, or did they make a manual?

I driven a 3.2 TT and the DSG box was aload of sh*t....

.....that 3.2 needs to have a 6 speed manual really.

I think that i will have to opt out of the 6 clynider route as its much easier to just bang in the 1.8T and remap it.

Shame really.

Why did you buy a 1.6 in the first place, they are the same money as an AGU A3 and with a stage 1 R-Tech map will give you more than the 180BHP you want.

The 1.8T is an awesome engine, massive tuning potential and cheap to do.

Just buy a 1.8T A3, no point in going to all the extra hassle of ruining your current car, invalidating your insurance, having a vehicle safety check etc etc etc
