My 3.0TDI has been serviced by Audi from new (admittedly this is only twice) but have been quoted £500+ for the next major service. A reputable garage will service it using Audi parts for £300.

I am not happy with Audi's services anyway, even at the 37,000 service they would not replace the air filter. According to them 3 years and 50K miles is OK on the original air filter.....

If you were buying an Audi would you be put off by a 'mixed' service history? Would you really only buy an Audi with FULL Audi service history? Once out of warranty, whats the point?

Would appreciate anyone's views on this before I make a decision that will provide a better service and save £200..... but may potentially cost me in the future.... worry worry

I have a 57-plate 3.0TDi, with 60,000 miles. All of the services to date have been done at Audi dealers.....but not by me, by the previous owner. As soon as the next service falls due, I will take it straight to my local indie, who will do a better job for less money.

When I bought my 2.5tdi with 120,000 on the clock it had a full service history with only the first 3 done by Audi main dealer. It didn't put me off at all. A full service history is a full service history right? I check out the garages that had done the services and they all seemed very good so I bought the car. All I can say is that it didn't put me off buying.

To be honest, it's not the stamps in the book that add up to a service history in my view. I like to see invoices too. I keep every invoice for every piece of work I have done on a car, and pass them on with the car when it is sold.

To be honest, I stick with the dealer servicing although it is dependent on your local dealer (some are rubbish). Full service history cars tend to attract more buyers and are, arguably, worth slightly more.

Its very dependent on the dealership.........I wouldn't paint them all by the same brush. one near me Chingford audi seem to do a good job, mines been there twice for a service. they always just do what I ask them to do....no surprises no oversell....

Yes, but all of them good or bad, charge an absolute ****** fortune. The labour charge at my local Audi dealer (ten minutes walk to the south of the house) is more than double the charge at my local indie (five minutes walk to the north).

They have to carry the huge overhead of the poncy showroom, courtesy cars, endless reception staff (who are generally useless) and separate liaison staff for parts, service, sales etc. etc. All of that is geared towards the corporate market, where the person paying the bill isn't the person driving the car. Thanks, but you can count me out.

I do all my servicing myself, but i pay a local indie garage £10 to remove the old oil and add my own (customer supplied) oil in the car. This way for £10 labour, they chuck my old oil away hassle free and i get a stamp in the book plus a invoice saying i was there on x date with xxxxxx mileage.

Any future buyer is lucky to have my car!!

Had my 3.0 TDi serviced a few weeks back at VAGTECH, cost me £160.00 with me providing my own oil.

Audi wanted £400.00.

They were much more friendly, helpful and do a damn site better job.

Seems to be stacking up against the dealers. Strangely enough my recent 2.0T was serviced by Audi and it was fairly reasonable. Someone somewhere on this website (or another similar) found that Audi labour charges automatically go from £100 to £150 an hour when either your engine size or car size goes up, ie, from a 2.0 to a 3.0.

Great comments by Jeff about paying for the Audi receptionists, etc, you are right, Cheshire Oaks Audi's spanking new dealership is like terminal 5, enormous, glitzy, stacks of staff doing sweet F.A. etc

Think I'll use my local dependable garage and give him a K&N air filter to fit too.

Have it done at VAGTECH mate, they are Audi specialists!! and charge half what audi charge.

Maybe worth pointing out that my local indie is rubbish and talks a load of sh*t. Disturbing when you know more than a "specialist".

Nathan you are right you get good and bad of both.

If you find a good indi as i have ,use them.

If you find a good dealer for a similar price to and indi then use them.

This recent experience illustrates for me the difference between my Audi dealer and my local indie. My current car only came with one key fob, so Fontain ordered a replacement for me free of charge. When it arrived, it obviously needed coding. It was not cost-effective to take the car over to Fontain, so they agreed to pay the cost of me having it coded locally. This is what happened.

Saturday: 08.30am: Phoned Bexley Audi to arrange a time for key-coding. Receptionist told me the service liaison person was busy, but took my number so he could call me back, which he didn't.

Saturday: 09.30am: Repeat above.

Saturday: 11.00am: Repeat above.

Monday: 08.00am: Repeat above.

Monday: 11.00am: Repeat above.

Monday: 11.05am: Called Sanspeed. They said bring it in on your way home from work today.

Monday: 16.00pm: Sanspeed coded key to car. Charged half an hour's labout at £55ph.

Tuesday: 15.00pm: Bexley Audi called. "I understand you want to book your car in for servicing, sir?"

I agree. Both Lakeland Audi and Teesside Audi have been really good experiences. Teesside Audi changed my cambelt and water pump for £350 which is very reasonable.

However, dealers have different labour rates depending on where you are. Broadly speaking, the further south your are, the higher the labour rates.

I also do all my own servicing. I've just carried out the 3rd service since i owned it, i think ive saved around 750 pounds in parts and labour costs (i always use genuine parts and change ALL the filters everytime). Is my car going to be worth around a grand less than one with FASH???? Not in my opinion.

Sadly it is worth less in the motor trade without a FASH but then again, with the money you've saved.....

One of the major downsides of not getting your car serviced at a dealership is "goodwill". Say for example you are out of warrenty by a week and your turbo goes, ruining a full exhaust system inc the turbo, because of oil drench.....and maybe the cylinders fill themselves and need draining.....well thats a £3k job.

I had a customer like that the other day, and he had a full Audi service history, so i claimed through Audi and he went away with new turbo, exhaust and clean engine for free.

Whereas at the moment i am dealing with a very angry woman who let her brother do the servicing on her 07 plate TT Tdi and its got a cracked block. She is going to have to pay for the lot. About £6 grand for parts and labour.

Do you take the risk and save a few pounds? Up to you.

I WAS ADVISED TO KEEP AWAY FROM K AND N FILTER AS NOT THAT GOOD OF A FILTER .... JUST THOUGHT I WOULD GIVE U A HEADS UP ....

Oh... would be interested in anyone's experience of using a K&N filter?

I think the comment about K&N filters not being that good is debatable....especially when no evidence....
at the end of the day its a filter....which is supposed to enhance.....its not going to give you miracles....

Depends on a lot of factors, mine is over 5 years old with over 100k, i dont think Audi would have shown much goodwill.

Exactly my point.

I know its a bit different, but a mate of mine always serviced his Ferrari himself. When he came to sell it, the dealer said not having full history didnt make a difference and he was happy with the price he got. You would have thought on a car like that it would.
