Hi, I need to source a replacement remote fob for my B6 Cab (2003), not a problem to swap the blade and the imob rfid chip but of the several on ebay at the moment I know some wont work on A4s.

Looked hard after taking it apart as if to change the battery but I cant see a audi part number..... any clues ?

I found the part code ,its on the outer facing bit of the battery holder that you can only see once its seperated from the key blade section....

So the question is, my fob part number is 8Z0 837 231.... a lot of the ones on EBay have an extra A or D, does anyone know if it matters ???

Advice appreciated.

Based on your car options the key frequencies are as follows,
(look inside your Service Book where all car options are listed via 3 digit codes):

5D1 = Carrier frequency 433.92 MHz-434.42 Mhz
5D2 = Carrier frequency 315 MHz
5D3 = Carrier frequency 315 MHz with reduced transmitting power
5D4 = Carrier frequency 315 MHz without panic button

Keys available are as follows:

8Z0 837 231 01C for "5D1" option cars (12/00 - 06/02) - 3 Buttons
8Z0 837 231 D 01C for "5D1" option cars (07/02 - 12/04) - 3 Buttons
8Z0 837 231 A 01C for "5D3" option cars (12/00 - 06/02) - 3 Buttons
8Z0 837 231 E 01C for "5D3" option cars (07/02 - 12/04) - 3 Buttons
8Z0 837 231 B 01C for "5D2" option cars (12/00 - 06/02) - 4 Buttons
8Z0 837 231 F 01C for "5D2" option cars (07/02 - 12/04) - 4 Buttons
8Z0 837 231 C 01C for "5D4" option cars (12/00 - 06/02) - 3 Buttons
8Z0 837 231 G 01C for "5D4" option cars (07/02 - 12/04) - 3 Buttons

In the UK I guess we only use "5D1" frequencies and you need the key frequency to match the Convenience Module frequency else no remote central locking.

Hi, thankd for the reply... mine is a 5D1, but I have read on other forums that the early A4s ie 2002-3 build have a different convience module hence the key codes with the D as an extra digit.....I have 2 fobsm the code strip and the black plastic key, its just one of the bobs doesnt work wireless, its damaged (can see it) but at least it unlocks and starts the car....

8Z0 837 231 01C for "5D1" option cars (12/00 - 06/02) - 3 Buttons
8Z0 837 231 D 01C for "5D1" option cars (07/02 - 12/04) - 3 Buttons

Has to be one of these 2..... dilema is do I try a 'D' key and hope it works....my car was registered Jan 2003 but I dont know the build date to its either or ....

Info on convenience modules as follows.......

So assume your Convenience Module is (AK/AH)AJ or (BC)BD?

Would have thought the frequency is important and you will be transferring the RFI tag so perhaps any 5D1 version fob will work?

Will be moving the RFID chip yes, already stripped the key down :) Just not 100% sure a 'D' key will work, even on the correct frequency. Can always resell it on eBay I guess :)

And then the rest of us will know if it's compatible........... or not!

I like your thinking ! Just took my fully working fob apart, same part code 8Z0 837 231/355029 (No A or D just the 355029 number).... Im just gonna try it with a D key, hell I will take one for the team :)

If your fob part no says "8Z0 837 231" and Audi would follow that with the "Satin Black" colour coding "01C" then you would buy this one off Ebay - they sate the number as yours is printed on the inside of the fob.
However, the only other UK option on later vehicles as stated above would be the "8Z0 837 231 D" version and definitely not the "A" version. Same seller as above is selling the "D" version and he says its stamped on the inside of the key fob.
Either versions from this guy are £19.95 delivered.

Not sure which Ebay seller you were looking at for the D version?

I have already messaged the seller of the first link you posted asking him to confirm the full part code. There are half a dozen D code keys listed at the moment....

I have the same keyfob as yours: part code 8Z0 837 231/355029
Did you find out if the D version or any other for that matter works?
