basically i only have 2 wheel drive at the moment and the traction control light is on the dash all the time. fault code is 01324 control module for all wheel drive, j492 no comunication.
Ive done a search and found a couple of things. First off i cheacked the conection plugs and all are in good condition. i cleaned them anyway.
Next one was the earth strap. I cant find one on my car at all and there are no signs of one being there. Can any one tell me if all s3s are ment to have one??
Oh the fuse is fine too.
Other than that is it the haldex controller itself?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance
Mark

Last time I saw this fault, the loom plug for the haldex had gone bad, all corroded inside and was causing the problem.

Cut the loom plug off, and soldered the wires instead. Problem solved.

Said the man (another one!) who is obviously handy with the soldering iron !

Mines a 2001 and it doesn't have the earth strap thinks it's pre face lift or something not sure. But I know not all have them. My Haldx isn't working either. I even added a earth strap on mine didn't make a difference. Just don't work and with the power ive got 1st 2nd and 3rd gear spins :( just can't get the power down.

I have the exact same problem, took it to audi and they said it was my haldex control unit. the quoted me £1200 for a new one but am goin to get the haldex performance controller brand new for £700 ish, no brainer really! cant wait to get it, so i can finally get the power down!

Well i think im going to have to get another unit from somewere. Does anybody know if when i replace the haldex controller, will it need programing at all. Or will it just plug in and work??
Cheers, Mark

We should see if we can get a group buy sorted! I dont know how to go about it though!

I had the same problem with mine. I ended up buying the haldex performance unit. It was certainly the best choice. It drastically improves the power you can put down in 1 st gear and you notice faster throttle response throughout the other gears. And subject to what people might say it doesnt turn your car into a drifter in the bends as long as you go in and oot under control. Its easy to fit and comes complete with instructions. Be sure to check your haldex oil level after fitting it. If its low then look at either topping it up, or perhaps replacing the filter and fluid. If this hasn't been carried out at the regular scheduled intervals, this can throw your haldex out of sync resulting in the problem that you have now.

so the controller is main cause for 01324 vagcom code and if you get a new one it will work again

will a haldex controller for a audi tt fit my s3 are they the same as long as its gen 1 controller

1 Fault Found:
01324 - Control Module for All Wheel Drive (J492)
49-00 - No Communications

65535 - Internal Control Module Memory Error
00-00 - -

found this code in awd

dose this mean the controller is knackered

check the plug for the controller. welly took one off and took it apart and it was corroded to death, re-wired it and it worked.
just a possibility.
and yes a tt controller should work.

ok cheers mate will have a look can you remember what plug it was the one on the back of diff or haldex it self. also where did you get a new plug from

the plug that comes out the haldex controller, fairly big black thing. i havn't bought one, but welly cut it off a car he was working on, and took it apart and re-wired it, as it was all corroded. fixed it in his case.

ok mate ill have to have a look mate cheers.. if it fixes it thats a good fix as the controllers are alot of money

Well remembered that man.

Bottom line, it's exposed to the elements - electrics and rain aren't friends. It's an easy job, and will only take 2 mins to check to be honest, I've got some photos somewhere, I'll have a look now.

Here we are:

Hi
Was looking through old threads because my A3 3.2 quattro 2004 8PL has the esp light on and a specialist has told me its the haldex control unit.
How was your car after the performance unit was fitted?
Any advice appreciated.
RC

Hi mate.. Your car is an 8P so the newer model to this. Better to post In the 8P section as the Haldex is Gen 2 in the 8P. But like these lot, get it scanned for faults and work from there instead of shedding loads of money on a controller. Check the connections too.

Now have the 01324 code coming up, can you buy new connectors? Or is it a permanent solder solution?
