had my booked in for a dsg oil change today and said it would cost one hours labour at £70+vat so i waited while the oil got changed.
i supplied the oil and filter myself and left them in the boot which i told the women on servicing.
anyways when i arrived home and looked in the boot i notcied that the oil filter was still there meaning that they havent even changed it.
how stupid can you get anybody know when you change any oil you also change the filter,
so i rang them up right away and the techinician who did my car had just poped out appartently.
and said would i like to book my car in again to get it fitted.

so the women on the phone said she will ring me back after she spoke to the technician and that was over an hour ago.

so shoud i be asking to speak to a manager about this as running fresh oil through an old oil filter cant be good for the oil, if i wanted this to happen i would of taken it to a back street garage.
you take you car to audi for peace of mind and wanting a job done properly.

i would kick off big time ...... what a waste of new oil
also correct me if iam wrong but if the take the fitler off wouldnt the oil run out any way till the filter was placed back on........
i thought u was ment to drain the oil off befor removing the filter ....... this means they would have to drain the oild they have just put in to put the new filter on ???????

well the bloke that brought my car out to me was supposed to be the person that did it and he wasnt 17 lol
would you request them to put fresh oil in with the new filter

i think they have too as they need to drain oil befor fitting filter ....

Maybe it was not a suitable filter so they fitted one of their own. Anyway....audi dealerships do not charge £70 and hour !!!

One of my mates had a bad experience through Audi, he has an A4 convertable 08 model, dropped it off for an oil change. Went to pick it up and on the way home the oil light came on. They had screwed up the rubber gromit on the filter and it leaked all the way home until near enough empty. They had to send out an Audi van to come up and do it again, or take it away I cant remember now only that it was a silver Audi specialist van. Hes doing one of those deals where he has to have the car serviced through them and changhes cars every 2 years otherwise he said he`d never take it to them again. He has to go through them for tyres too but only after "X" amount of time they`ll replace them even if they need doing sooner he has to play Holy Hell with them to get them done, which hes paying for anyway through his service agreement I would have thought.

Midland VW charged me £120 all in to do mine, took them half an hour. I dont bother with Audi and buying your own parts etc because they only balls things up like you have seen!

They are like robots, most of their servicing is company car A4's in and out all day where nobody questions the bill or what they have actually done!

the filter was the correct one as i order it from the parts department 2 days before and picked it uptoday before i went into the services department to hand over the keys to get the job done, just rung audi back and they said as it wasnt down on the the job card to get oil filter changed they didnt do it, but would you think a so called " trained technician" would think hang on a minute the filter needs changing too.
so car is booked in tuesday to get the oil filter fitted, but she said they wont change the oil as she has spoke to 3 technicians and they said it would be fine. unless the oil looks contaminated but in my eyes it should be changed with the filter as its a waste of oil really.
and you drop the oil out 1st before you change the filter too.

btw audi do charge £70 + vat an hour as it takes one hour to complete the job and thats what they charged me £70+vat = £84.

Lucky you mate !! My local Audi dealership charges £165/hour !

well am not that lucky am i really when they havent even done the job properly really, but jesus that is a hell of alot.

Lucky you mate !! My local Audi dealership charges £165/hour !

Yeah mine charges £120 and hour plus VAT...

If the filter was bought from the dealer anyway why was it bought seperate?? Why not have it done as a complete job??

(you take you car to audi for peace of mind and wanting a job done properly)

who told you that
audi sheffield charge me 55+ but only go when i realy realy need to
and b4 anyone says they dont charge £55+ they do me as i do a lot of work for them

Lucky you mate !! My local Audi dealership charges £165/hour !

:wtf:Where the hell are they - Park Lane!! lol

My local VAG specialist charges £30 +VAT and knows the job inside out - not just your average grease monkey at the stealers who can only work off fault codes to find out what's wrong !!

Almost worth you travelling to Leeds for a service ?!!!!

I would make a point of stating they have to put new il in at there cost, new oil through an old filter, kinda stupid imho, they go hand in hand when I've ever done any.

Must admit that I never liked anyone but myself to do the oil change as heard that they vacuum the oil out and dont bother with the drain plug, In my opinion can't do the engine any good as what is the magnetic drain plug for but to stop swarf going back up into the engine. Don't know if thats true perhaps someone can clarify, but basic maintenance is change the filter whilst changing the oil and if they don't do that don't trust them.

I took mine in for the dsg oil change a few months ago and there's nothing on the bill about replacing the filter, are they really that stupid to not do the filter at the same time?

I can't believe they vacuum the engine oil out! That would take longer than simply undoing the sump plug and I can't believe it would get anywhere near all the oil out. Think someone was pulling your chain with that one?!

Got mine changed 2 weeks ago and the filter was changed at the same time. I use a VAG specialist, certainly wouldnt go to my local Dealer unless I really had to.

mate this exact same thing just happened to me however id didnt supplyu oil or parts but specified i want the filter changing, on collection the inboice said gear box oil change so i asked if they changed the filter, which it turned out they hadnt, so is back in on monday to get oil and filter changed again, you should never run new oil through old filter waste of time and defeats the object of the change, the price was £144 for oil 7 ltrs, oil filter, VAT and labour but will all be done again on monday for free

No, quite a lot of garages use an extractor to remove the engine oil via the dipstick - always considered it a bit of a bodge to be honest.

Makes me laugh a bit inside when trying to sell a car and people are trying to knock you down on price because you have serviced the car yourself, the first post is a prime example of why I have NEVER used a garage for engine servicing or see the appeal of a dealer stamped service book.

This sort of thing makes my blood boil and I would be demanding fresh oil if I were you. Your new oil will have mixed with the old oil (about half a pint) in the filter. I've never trusted them and I do my own oil changes inbetween services (it's not exactly hard to do) and get it serviced at my local VW independant.
Sometimes the only difference between the Dealers and your local kwik-fit outlet is the posher badge on their overalls!

Hi guys,

Just wanted to add my experiences of Audi main dealer incompetence, and I definitely agree, if you want piece of mind and a good job done first time, don't go to a main dealer!

I bought a 2009 S3 just before xmas and not long after picking it up it developed an intermittent "ESP fault" which would disable all driver aids and put the car into limp mode.

The car still had 12 months warranty and a friend of a friend was the service manager at a local Audi dealership so booked it in to have the fault investigated and a few other changes made via VAGCOM.

I got the car back after almost a week at the dealers with the service manager telling me the car had had a "minor rebuild" and the fault had been traced to the throttle body which had been replaced along with some other ancillaries. The car was fine for a few days but when out in it one evening i noticed a loss of boost and again the "ESP fault" light came on. I checked under the bonnet and to my utter surprise I found the boost pipe connection the the throttle body was so loose that I could spin the jubilee clip around the hose!

I tightened the hose clip and this resolved my boost issues with the car now seeming to be working fine..... for a week or so!

I came out one morning to start the car and immediately the "ESP Fault" light was back on with the engine idling very erratically and stalling after opening the throttle and lifting off.

I booked the car back in with Audi, asking them to investigate this fault, reset my auto-level headlights and activate convenience windows on VAGCOM.

I got the car back after about 5 days with the fault rectified (their explanation was having to reset the throttle body which was replaced by them only a few weeks ago), auto-level headlights were improved but still aren't 100%..... and convenience windows still not working!

The only consolation is that all engine issues are now resolved and the car is running like a dream, but i was so unimpressed with Audi's diagnostic and repair abilities that i would be very very reluctant to take it back to them again.... even when your meant to be getting looked after by the service manager!

Anyone had experience of AMD essex? I am thinking of using them for any servicing and investigation work in the future.

To be honest south paw, i dont think its just Audi employees. ( note i dont say mechanics or technicians because i doubt they are) Its not like Audi advertise for incompetent people to repair cars, its just the way people are in general. Try and find an indie that relies on word of mouth for his advertising, that way he might actually care about doing a good job.

+1 Spot on - most indies have a boss who really knows his stuff and mechanics that appreciate the job !! :icon_thumright:

Well all I can say is that some of you must be using very crapy Audi dealers as mine are very good with nothing to much troble & great service. eg. had to have a new hood fitted as soon as soon as Audi Germany had resolved the problem with some A3 hoods my dealer called me & arranged a new hood to be fitted, had a puncture in one tyre, rang my dealer & they changed all 4, never failed to get a courtesy car, always kept informed if any problems & waiting for parts, always welcomed & treated with courtesy, respect & friendlyness.

Errr, no, I take it to an Audi specialist if I want peace of mind and the job doing properly!
If I want some monkey doing it who has no interest and get charged a stupid price for it, THEN I would go to a dealer!

It all boils down to the individual comapny that has an Audi franchise. Like you I have all been treated very well and have been very pleased with the service I've received from my dealer. I have so far purchased seven A3s from them over the past 13 years and all the servicing work has been done by them and I have no complaints at all.

Yeah spot on. Most Audi dealerships are owned by big motor groups like Inchcape, Reg Vardy etc.... They own many dealerships across many marks and are interested in bottom line figures off which they can balance across the groups dealerships.

The smaller Audi dealerships are from my experience very good as they only have to worry about there own goings on, hence there customer service is normally good as they want you to return... I have had no trouble ever with my dealer and as a family have bought and serviced 8 cars through them...

Sounds like the usual lottery then! Some of you lucky folks can get the Audi stamps knowing that your car has been serviced well.
My local Audi dealer has repeatedly been given appalling levels of service to me, so I do as Paddy says & use a local trusted independent for their great service & caring attitude.

Yeah it is, they have just opened the new Bristol Audi site near Cribbs Causeway. Never used Bristol as Bath is only up the road but never had any problem with them....

I will give a gong here for Perth Audi - now had 3 cars for them and they are about the only car dealership I go into where I have actually enjoyed the transaction. Think they were voted the No.1 Audi dealer in the UK for 2011, and I can understand why, the staff are all fantastic and take an interest in their customers, would definately go back a fourth time if I can afford it!!!

Interestingly they are run by a small family company (Camerons) who also own the VW dealer next door. Quite a rarity up here in the NE of Scotland, where the John Clark Group dominates and has VAG franchises all over the place - they run the Dundee Audi franchise just 23 miles away and I've heard nothing but bad things about them. When shopping for my first A3, I was given the brush-off by the (very patronising) salesman just because I came dressed in my scruffs.....I mean, very sorry that I happen to wear trainers all the time......Perth on the other hand didn't care one iota and they have had my business ever since.

quick question guys, I think my car is due for a DSG oil and filter service. I have realised lately that the car does not change gears smoothly. Could this mean that a dsg service is due?

Also, after your service, have your cars been running more smoothly?

Thanks

My son lives near Elgin and is on his 3rd A3 from Perth. He goes all that way-120ish?-as they are so good, and he's a perfectionist! :icon_thumright:

Having done a few DSG / S-Tronic oil changes myself using a £10 home made rig and VCDS to monitor oil temp. My observations are:

A) When oil is drained from the gearbox sump, not all of it comes out. Approx 1 to 1.5 litres remain.
B) The amount of gearbox oil quoted in most specs is for new clean fill of a completely dismantled/new gearbox.
C) Typically only 5litres of oil are required, which also includes any overspill.
D) Filter will def need changing.

These are some pics I took when doing the first DSG gearbox change.

After 28k miles... New oil on Left, Old on right.

Yeh audi techs, haha more like laptop says no fault so there isnt!
My 2008 S3 has been with harrogate audi now for 5 full weeks, yes thats 5 weeks for a warranty job on the gearbox, after finally getting audi uk involved because the so called approved audi warranty is actually appalling they have at last phoned me today to say they have now fitted a new gearbox.
Makes me laugh and mad at the same time as 5 weeks ago i was told there was nothing wrong with gearbox, oh yeh and when they did my full inspection service they left the engine oil on the minimum mark and left brake fluid all down side of engine which then dripped all over suspension.
The way i have been dealt with by harrogate audi is shocking to say the least, i wouldnt trust them to change a wheel and to be without the car for 5 weeks takes some believing. I certainly didnt expect this sort of hassle with audi or there garages. Even though there is still 5 months of warranty remaining i will just use awesome gti in future, think that says it all really when id rarther pay an indy specialist than use the so call expert audi techs and the centres for future warranty issues.
