I think I'm heading for a new windscreen this summer owing to the number of scratches that are appearing. I've seen plenty of threads and Internet posts on retrofitting a auto dim interior mirror and auto lights, but none of them have a DIY for the B7 and wondered if anyone on here has actually done it and was it problematic?

I know a few people have got an auto dim mirror from Gentex but if I get a new windscreen, I can get an auto dim mirror for a few quid, thought I may as well go OEM in that case.

Appears that HazeyDayz want to charge over £500!? Is it just a case of getting a windscreen (is the light sensor built into the screen?), mirror, new light switch and getting it coded?

the light sensor goes on the screen infront of the mirror
if you go for the new screen fit the TTRS mirror i did and it looks better

Have to look at the TTRS mirror, presumably it was a straight fit?

Did you retrofit the auto dim or did you already have it?

I think Unikarl has done this aswell, might have some pointers?

Assuming you have auto light switch as you'll need this to replace existing for the auto position, this would also allow for the CH/LH which is enabled of a seperate dial which is another part needed, yes you need to get sensor seperate from screen & of course mirror, at same time why not wire sides for dimming aswell.

I may have a mirror & a sensor available as the sensor is £160 from dealer alone, if interested.

Yeah, good point, forgot about CH/LH, think I might need that switch from the dealer as they appear to be rare on ebay. So I need:

New windscreen (when I have funds)
Auto switch
Kufatec harness
Mirror
Light sensor
CH/LH switch

And someone who knows how to wire it (oh and to borrow a VCDS cable). Is that it?

I can maybe supply new parts aswell, PM me mate what you need & I'll have a looksy as I sell new from dealer aswell.

Edit: Just seen PM already lol.

Looking at the A6 thread I found, the following parts are required:

8E0 857 511 E59 (light platinum grey) Auto dimming mirror £143.37
8E0 857 593 E59 (light platinum grey) Cover £3.77
8E0 941 531 B Headlight switch with auto function (Soul black) £70.79
8E2 919 094 A (RHD specific) Headlight range and Coming home switch (Soul black) £23.50

Prices were from 2007.

Can I just check (I should stop reading the Internet), are there three types of rear view mirror (standard, auto dim and auto dim with light/rain sensor?

Is the rain sensor and light sensor the same sensor? And does it use the same mirror and windscreen?

I fitted the autodimming mirror but not the lights.

I got the mirror off ebay, taken from an A3 without the built in rain sensor.

A3 doesnt have built in rain sensor, its a seperate sensor fitted on the screen which is also a light sensor, mirror has a dimming sensor on the front & rear has a light sensor that also works inconjunction (on 8P's) with the rain/light sensor for ch/lh & auto lights functions.

So are there only two types of windscreen, one for rain sensor and the other without? I can't get a clear picture whether to have an auto dim mirror & light sensor requires a different windscreen or not.

Hi all can anyone tell me the rain light sensor part number. Have had the screen fitted got autodim rear view mirror working but cant work out were wire F3 goes the E and F are next to one plug not like the others A to a plug B to a plug and so on. have been given a sensor but think its for a other model not a A3 part number is 8k0955559 Help please

Wrath , did you ever get any further with this , hazeydayz want over £600 now plus you have to get your windscreen replaced beforehand.

A little bit further but not the whole shebang as I got the RNSe 2010 and childcare is crippling me. However, I have got the mirror which should just connect up in the light unit as long as I get a new windscreen. Mirror was around £60 IIRC from ebay.de. Then will need the CH switch and the auto lights switch (difficult to find from ebay and pricey from the dealers). Then it's just a case of wiring, I have got a few sites bookmarked and then was aiming to sweettalk B5NUT (don't tell him, he doesn't know ;-)

So after windscreen, the bits should cost a couple off hundred at most. I suppose the wiring will be a little bit tedious though. £600 is *very* steep, I'm surprised he gets much business for the prices he charges.

You thinking of doing it as well?

Yes Nathan defiantly something I want to do but not for £600+ , don't mind buying the parts as you have. I'll look on ebay.de.

Thanks

aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

this really is driving me nuts now :keule:, nathan if you by any chance you know the part numbers of all the bits i need could you please post them up.
I'm beginning to see why hazydayz charge so much :sm4:, nigel (NHN) is this something you can source and fit .

I can source & fit yes, but you have to consider cost of parts which are tbh substantial from audi & the time taken to wire it all in aswell as fitting, but yes I can do it.

Two threads:
Auto-Dimming Mirror Retrofit Information and DIY (long))
And more relevant: How to fit Auto lights with coming home function | Audi Forum

Parts and numbers:
8E0 857 511 E59 (light platinum grey) Auto dimming mirror £143.37 - although the mirror part number from a factory spec A4 was 4F0 857 511 which is the one I got hold of.
8E0 857 593 E59 (light platinum grey) Cover £3.77
8E0 941 531 B Headlight switch with auto function (Soul black) £70.79
8E2 919 094 A (RHD specific) Headlight range and Coming home switch (Soul black) £23.50

The auto dim mirrors come up occasionally on ebay.de The other bits come up very rarely. The main thing to check is the control unit to see if you have low line or high line. Read all the thread.

The main thing stopping me at the moment (apart from cash) is needing a different windscreen.

& all connectors & repair wires, some wires can cost upto £8 each, but lets hope its just a 009 wire thats £2.20 each.

Thanks nathan/nigel.

The parts list nathan isn't to expensive is the auto light switch compatible with the b7 i read some where its meant to end with c or d for the B7.

Nigel sorry for so many questions but how do i find out if i need several £8 wires or the £2 ones, and if i were at some point to source all of the parts i need how long would it take (not me ) to install.

Thanks

Emailed hazy dayz to see if they would do a deal dor forum members , here is the reply .

i Richard, Thanks for your email, we can certainly help with this request. Firstly you need to make sure all vehicles have the correct central electrics module fitted. This needs to be 8E0 907 279N. This can be checked with VCDS, go to address 09 under the component number you'll see this. Providing you have the correct module already installed. Then we can supply and fit the Autolights package for £510 + VAT. The Coming home can be done at the same time for £50 + VAT extra. If all 3 cars are done at the same time/place we can offer a 5% discount or 10% discount if you come to our workshop in AL3 8JH.

At least I know I have the correct module .

So £612 + £60 + new windscreen. I can't believe it's that difficult. I know the mirror can go in relatively easy. Then it's just a case of wiring it to the central control. Nige, what region would you do it for?

I honestly think we can pull it offf if we wade through the forum posts below.

As in area or costs?

I also know a top notch windscreen company I use all the time who would do a glass swap based on the "cracks" you lot have :)

I think Nathan means cost .I'm interested to.

I may need the number of that company .:)

Nathan if I can help with making a custom wiring harness just let me know

£8 for a wire with a connector is a comeplete joke Audi should hang there head in shame....

Cool. Will do. Just need some cash and I'd be happy to try and do it.

Have you thought anymore about the cost for this Nigel, alternatively now I know I have the right module what's the process in getting coming home lights working not bothered if it works both day and night.

Thanks

Hi Nigel
Tried to pm you but the system won't let me :( Can you please give me a rough cost for parts & installation (exc new windscreen) for an auto dimming rear view mirror for my B7? Don't need auto lights or wipers. I'd bring the car over to you (NW England?) to make things easier.
Cheers :)

I've just spoken to Hazzydayz and they said they can supply & fit an oem auto dimming rear view mirror For £265+vat. I don't require auto lights/rain sensors. They said my windscreen (bog standard) does not need to be replaced and the end result will be the same as a factory fitted jobbie. Surely this can't be correct? How would they hide the wiring?

There is a different windscreen in etka for auto lights which would be used for autodim mirror aswell, so depends what screen & mirror fixing you have now, there was an adapter to go from 1 to other, but this was aftermarket & looked rubbish when I saw it & the autolight screen has a bonded metal bracket that has a plastic trim that fixes to this to hold the wires in place, which then has a plastic over to go over it, hiding the loom, so I'd be asking them exactly what they will fit.

PM me a pic of your mirror you have now & twist it of so can see fixing, then can provide a price.

Finally got the oem auto dimming mirror installed from Bespokeautotech in Cheshire not a single wire in sight and windscreen wasn't replaced. Works very well :)
