Howdo, Did a mod to the car last night which I was hoping would help with the gear selection problems I've been having recently... It's a popular mod on the mk4s and I'd not seen much about it on here, so I thought I'd give it a go...
There's no write-up to do as such on it as there's a really good one here for the MK 4 golf (Guide: Powerflex PolyBush Dog Bone Replacement - uk-mkivs) - the only difference is the S3 has a lower strut brace which is just a couple of 16mm bolts to undo and swing out the way...
I've been reading about the yellow powerflex bush giving a few too many vibrations into the cabin, so I went with PFF85-420R which is designed for the diesel engines but fits perfectly and there's no extra vibrations over OEM IMO...
Anyhow, the results... Well an annoying judder has gone when on/off light throttle in stop/start traffic, the gear selection problems have gone and it feels a lot tighter to drive. All in, for less than £20, it's a must-do mod and only took about half an hour to fit on the driveway with no special tools...
