The car lost a few quid in value last night.

I'm sure lots of you can beat this though?

Note: Saying your uncles Morris Marina had 210k or you went in a Merc taxi in Berlin with 414k doesn't count!

...and is that 320miles on a full tank I see? LOL

(just jealous as I should of gone for the 2.5V6!)

I know you said it's cheating, but my mate had a merc e class with 650k miles on it, lol. Was a chauffers car or something.

Anyway, mine is fast approaching 150k also, but first engine! I had also noticed your miles, and was seeing it as a reason not to get a 2.5TDI, lol. But 400 isn't too bad. I generally only get 500 from a tank in my 1.9TDI.

Was a cold night too I see!

not evan run in yet james what is the true mileg on it though what was it on before you had to do the engine. as crazy88 it is also coming up fast on mine not that you would ever know it to drive in any of them im sure ;-) my old gsi 2000 cav i had had 210k on it when i sold it and that was petrol so long live our tdi.s is all i can say and hope

Lol, no I didn't fill up last time - 400 or so miles is typical.

Is that all! This was my estimated range the other day after filling up. Not bad for a little V8....

Soon dropped to a more believable figure..... also was just about to turn 87k

I remember when my old audi 80 turned 200k and got stuck on 199999

It's all good mate, barely run in.

Mines on 130k and is in for a hybrid turbo and custom map, and i had no qualms with that at all

mines only on about 120k, still a baby, get about 400-450 miles on a tank. If I try very hard on long journeys I have got 500 before

Our old A4 did 195k on its original 1.8T. Its oil pump was fubar and I ended up removing the engine and fitting another because i got a good price on a complete motor, rather than just replacing the pump.

Well I filled up about 3 miles after that photo was taken last night, these pics show what you could reasonably expect from a 2.5TDi on fast A and B road driving like I do. These figures are after a 10 minute drive into town and back.

Not quite so cold at least!

Note my DIS is a bit pessimistic!

just stripped the turbo down on my friends 1.9tdi, still cant get the soot off my hands lol, but his is on 254k and now runs sweet as a nut.

My 2nd A4 (A 1.8 B5 saloon) has 104k on when I sold it, apart from one small bit of laquer peeling you would never have known.....did pop its head gasket when the water pump failed mind at 84k.

I have a w reg a6 tdi quattro 183k, a '98 a4 v6 tdi quattro- 180k, allroad v6 tdi quattro- 154k but runs worse than the high mileage ones ! I'm also rebuilding a 99 passat tdi with 240k on the clock (it dropped the valves on cyl 2 due to cowboy's garage messing a timing belt job!) so there's plenty life left in them engines !

Hell yeah when I pulled my engine appart due to the stupid previous owner messing up the service plan with a 5k early cam belt change it looked mint inside all the bores and hardly any lip on the cylinders
Nailed it back together and job done lovely car

Mines is on 166,000 1.8T on a Y reg, original engine, original turbo, remapped.
Still going strong.
Anyone got one higher than this?

I'm on a lowly 133k on mine, but original engine (turbo, clutch, etc) ;)

Mine normally shows around 425-450 miles range on filling up and depending on how the rest fo that trip goes or how many shor trips there are, etc , the light usually comes on around 400-440 miles (but then only takes 55 litres out of a 66litre tank): so real-world 33mpg (400 miles) to 36.3mpg (440miles).

Last tank was one of my worst recently: 391 miles and I **squeezed** in 56litres after that: but that is a over half the tank on lots of separate short trips and then 130-odd miles of "uneconomical" motorway stuff. Real world: 31.7mpg.

Not bad for a 133k mile, 10yr old, V6, 4x4 ;)

As you can see I ran mine to within 15 miles of empty on the DTE gauge, but still only got 58 litres in even with brimming it. The most I've ever had in was 61 litres when I ran it to zero once.

The fuel economy out of those 2.5TDI's really is appauling! Really cant see the appeal of that engine.

Our 1.8T Quattro does 30+ on a fast motorway run, doesnt eat camshafts and fuel pumps if you look at it the wrong way and sounds nice too! Ok it drops down to mid 20's if the entire tank is done around town, but the difference really isnt that great. Handles better too as there isnt a huge boat anchor sitting out front!

When our DIS shows 0 miles theres about a gallon and a half left in the tank. Most i've got in ours was 56 Litres after driving on "0" for about 10miles, and its a 60L tank.

I also had a b5 1.8t which was on original engine and turbo and that had 167,500 on it when i traded it in for my b6 avant 1.8t. Dont you just love an audi as long as its not needing money spent on it.

You either get it or you don't ;)

I'm not a fan of 4 cylinder engines personally, I've only ever driven one 1.8T admittedly, (a 163) and I found it a bit flat in honesty, but in fairness it may have had a problem. Either way even before the tuning box mid range my 2.5 would have left it standing.

The economy isn't great , but it is a quattro, and if I was so inclined I could get a lot more mpg from it, and on a longer journey it's fine - it's all down to my driving style and the roads around here no doubt. But agreed, if you want economy the 1.9's your choice!

"Eating camshafts and fuel pumps" is a bit harsh, if I was argumentative I would reply that I wouldn't want a 1.8T on my drive just waiting to starve itself of oil

You buy a v6 tdi for pottering round town ? Then you must be mad, they really come into their own on motorway when doing over a ton- still returning 40 Mpg ! Drive the 1.8TQS like that and i'm shure it will drop down to under 20 Mpg... If you consider that 500 miles is bad on 65 quid worth of diesel then carry-on driving petrol's (the car i use is a 1740kg audi a6 tdi quattro wich is returning 495-515 miles to a tank full whilst towing 500kg trailer with 1.5T cars on it at 70-80Mph average). It would be cheaper if the petrol was more expensive than the diesel just like in the rest of europe but here they tax you regardless if you drive an ecconomical engine or not ! I drive a lot on the continent where the diesel is cheaper than petrol and it takes me 2.5-3 full tanks to do a fast drive to me homme country (aprox. 3000 km one way), i can stop in ANY petrol station on the way and ask lorry drivers for a tankfull of diesel for half price (yeah right, they know how to drive economical so they save fuel wich = pocket money !) + the diesel v6 is much more confortable on motorway at 100 Mph without overheating or labouring...or anything. I also often tow cars to eastern europe and a petrol engine would not give me the torque needed to pull 2 Tonnes+ uphills nor the economy of a diesel engine on boost. Its comparing apples with pears but i see the v6 tdi as a decent compromise between performance and power to weight ratio without costing the earth to run. The camshafts wear down due to crappy longlife servicing (fortunately its been scrapped by VAG Group) and the pumps are 5-600 quid to refurbish at most decent diesel specialists. We can brag for a very long time about the differences between the 2 engines but they were designed with different goals in mind. Just for your reference, my b5 v6 tdi quattro weighs 1550kg (manual 6 speed, climate, avant) wich is not a lot heavier than the b5 TQS you have and the diference in handling is minimal. Trust me, i buy and sell many, many vag engined cars either diesel or petrol (and i drove all models bar a few) and for me the petrol does not do-it unless its a 2.7 TT s4 but i cannot stand the fuel consumption nor the running costs. Once you drove a big v6 diesel, you wont go back to petrol unless it has a big turbo strapped to it ! One of me mates drove 1.9 Tdi PD130 a few years ago, then bought a c5 audi v6 tdi quattro then bought a b6 v6 tdi quattro last year(after driving mine) and now he bought a 330d 3 series beemer(57 plate) and looks like he's gonna sell soon as he's thinking to go back to a 3L Tdi quattro b7 audi a4 avant !

i dont think 450 to 550 is bad at all for a 2.5tdi my old perol would do 350 on a run 400 if i was lucky and that was a 20l and to have all the power you have in the 2.5 tdi it would be well worth it i think but iv only got the 1.9 so ill shut up now lol

And, by the way, me mate's old c5 audi a6 tdi quattro is still running fine (its owned by another forum member- herefordquattro) and it was sold at 182+ k. The a6 tdi quattro i have its also on 183k and runs like brand new...mind you, i did rebuilt the engine twice due to worn camshafts first time then due to a cambelt break- previous garage fitted a cheap dayco cambelt kit from GSF and me i did not checked the stamp-that's what you get when you rebuild an engine in 1.5 days ! Anyway its done 12k happily since the rebuild and will be sold on thursday due to the purchase of a allroad v6 tdi wich is better suited to towing due to the air suspension !

Here here I am totally with Chris on this they are effortless to drive go like a train and pretty damn good on fuel albeit not kicking the **** out of it around the streets on a run they r spot on
I will only go back to a petrol car for a weekend hack or track car but to be honest I may build a diesel track car you can Cain the **** out of em and still not have to fill up like the petrol race cars do haha diesel all the way hahaha

If you can't see the appeal of the 2.5TDi, then you must not like effortless performance. MPG is good, considering the power output.

The engine is a superb combination of a smooth V6, with loads of power and torque - all at low revs, with a minimum of fuss. Mine is remapped, but over 300ft lbs of torque really does it for me!!

I also tow a powerboat ( twin axle, 28ft in length, weighing 1.3tonnes), and you wouldn't believe how it pulls up hills with ease, both on and off the motorway.

Suffice to say I am very impressed with the sheer engineering excellence of the V6. AND, the throaty roar sounds great the more you rev it!!:yum:

Lots of contradications in the MPG coming out the woodwork now isnt there?

Lostbok claims a peak of 36mpg, quattrojames's DIS shows 29.2mpg, yet adams claiming 40mpg+ and 500+ miles to a tank? Rose tinted specs i think.

Dervs are horrible to drive, with nothing low down, a big wodge of torque comes in then your jammed against the governor just when things should be getting moving. A remapped 1.8T will also deliver huge amounts of torque, but unlike the derv will hold it for much longer and actually gives a pleasing driving experience.

If your buying a diesel, your buying it because you want something economical, and that engine simply isnt.

I do agree with some of what you're saying, but out of interest have you ever driven a 2.5TDi 180?

In fairness my DIS was the result of 2 x 10 minute drives into town and back, the car barely got up to temperature so it's not really representative of what you'd expect! It also under reads by 2-3 mpg, an ave of 33-36 mpg is what I get.

I'd have to drive like Miss Daisy to Scotland and back to see 40 I must admit!

I'm happy to admit, i get 38 ish round here. I went to Invergarry for new years, 300 mile trip. 45 mpg which was worked out at the pumps. Not by a unreliable dash.

Never driven one no.

Drove a PD115 golf and a pd130 passat and got very tired of hitting the governor every 4 microseconds when trying to press on. It just wasnt a pleasant experience. Drove a 2.4 V6 A4 cabrio around the same time, and even though probably slower than the two dervs it was so much more rewarding to drive.

I've personally moved on from a 2.5 v6 petrol with equal bhp to the mapped 2.5 tdi I drive now. I find the tdi far more rewarding. Regardless of gear, it just goes. Where as you had to rag the **** out of the petrol to get it to get some torque.

can i ask aragorn where you got its a 60L tank are they not the same on all audi a4 as if so its 70L

My A4 cab 2.4 petrol, last time I filled up the DIS said I had about 30 miles left in the tank, filled it til it clicked and it took 64 litres. I get 27/28mpg round down if im gentle with it, 33-35 on the motorway. Only had it a month so still getting used to it........Im keeping paper records so I can calculate MGP manually to see how accurate the DIS is !

ok so just looked it up lol looks like some 4 wheel drive ones are 66L and some are 70L and thats it so no 60L tanks on any of them well not that the book shows lol

I got the info out of my owners manual, says the 4wd is 66 and fwd is 60.
