Hi guys hoping someone might be able to help, whilst driving down the A1 tonight I had just been giving it abit and then returned back to sensible cruising speed and a couple of minutes later lost power, car is spluttering badly everytime I hit the throttle and then the esp warning light came on and is still on. Pulled into the hard shoulder but car didn't cut out and I sussed as long as I just feathered the throttle it would run smooth so I got of the motorway and pulled into a petrol station for a look but couldnt see anything obvious so I limped home a couple of times when I throttled to much it went into proper limp mode with epc warning but stop and start and this would clear.

Any ideas

I have a similar problem, not sure if yours has the same symptoms mine did but i couldnt hear the turbo, it was like the 1.8 without the turbo, very little power...
It turned out to be the cam case breather system(think the PCV - hockey puck - valve) was blocked with corroded rubber from the pipes.
Worth checking rubber pipes for corrosion or blocking, as soon as i changed mine it was fine!

Just resolved an identical issue with a friend's S3. Turned out to be the throttle body failing. Also when scanned, VAG COM gave an 'Internal Control Module Malfunction' error for the throttle position sensor (inside the TB).

May be the same issue.

EPC light is the giveaway here - electronic pedal control.

hmm.. could be several things..
blown a pipe off, maf expired, coilpack expired (misfire)
etc etc

needs codes read

Had blown the boost pipe off where it goes onto the alloy pipe ontop of the engine, the end of the pipe is a bit suspect as some of the outer edge of it has come off and clip isn't great, I put it back on and went fro a run round the block and it looks like it's going to come off again so I've been to get a heavy duty jubilee clip in the hope that will secure it till I get another pipe.

Don't know what the crack was with the esp light though but after the run round the block it cleared so hopefully back in business.

Cheers

Glad your sorted mate, try and get any oil residues off the pipe and hose where they meet, then put back on with a decent clip...

Yeh I did, gave them a good clean with contact cleaner then refitted with new clip, have been for 10 mile no holds barred run and the pipe hasn't moved.
