I have really f'd up my ownership of a mk2 golf gti lol, Never done any car work before and thought I was capable of swapping the fuelling and ignition system from mechanical to electric. When its done I'll sell it.

Just thinking of my next car and always wanted the s3, had an a3 tqs before my golf, I'm hoping to not have a fall in performance when getting my next car what do people get from 0 - 60 in there mapped s3's? I was thinking 6 secs? Golf when done will do probably 6.5 maybe bit less.

Haven't seen you on here for a while :)

A remapped S3 is good for 6secs 0-60, though I did see 5.4 on the liquid gauge but I'd take that with a pinch of salt...

Still a few similar faces I'm seeing!

Probably will end up getting an s3 tbh or mk5 gti but wants 4wd back in my life :arco:, thats sounds fast enough for me!, going to get a modded one though, well map and coil-overs and that'll do!

Short second gear kills 0-60 times on the S3 and tbh should be taken with a pinch of salt... they are a very quick car when mapped though and once the suspension is sorted they are quick point to point...

That said I have got a 4.6 secs 0-60 in mine but she has had a little more done than a remap lol...

<tuffty/>

Mk5 is nice although common, the S3 looks more special and the 4wd drive is a win, everytime I go out in mine it feels special, wouldn't get that in the Golf

Oh yer the second gear scenario ! Yer after having the mk2 I wouldn't enjoy the s3 with out a map and sorted chassis, its bugging no other hot hatch has 4wd :(, part from r32 but I think they are pointless with tax and fuel etc plus weight more than the s3!

Yer saw my first s3 is ages yesterday and it brang a smile to my face  Probs see mk5 every single day!

Lol yer just an extra 150 odd horse!

As many have said S3 is a quick car to 60, good 4wd traction and all that, but the need to change to 3rd is annoying! Though sure i heard someone on here have the rev limit extended and could get to 60 in second gear!
On a normal mapped S3 you want someone to measure 0-58 or whatever it is to max second gear, thatll give an idea of how they compare from launch to other hatches!

I'm not really too bothered about the 0-60 as its not like everyone stops at 60, its 70 :sly: so can afford to go into 3rd anyway lol

Just wanted to know really if itd be same or better than the golf, after 80, as thats where the golf starts to slow down the s3 would eat it up anyway. Not unless I get the flywheel lightened on the mk2! Just got a problem though, could insure it for £1800 or wait till im 21 then it goes down to £900, Looks like I've got a long wait :(

OK, have a mk2 16v also, the S3 will just pull away in a straight line no contest, even if the S3 is in standard form. Put a few twist and turns into the equation though, and the mk2 will come alive in the corners(in the dry), and it's fun trying to keep a 16v in the powerband! :racer:

Would of thought itd be more equal in standard form, ive got a 2.0l so bit faster than the 1.8. 7 secs is the norm for a 1.8 with most people getting 6.5 from 2.0l isnt 6.5 s3 225 time? I need some revs in my life, fed up with 4k limiter in my van lol its been off the road since august !

But pretty sure a mapped s3 would kill it though as .5 is quite a big difference.

Yes, I would have thought an ABF would be similar in performance to a standard S3, but it's hard work getting the performance out if a 16v, you need a lot of road and revs! Don't get me wrong, it much more fun, the S3's performance is just so easily accessible, but there's no drama to it.... but it's just not as fun to drive as a nice Mk2.

According to an old Autocar mag my dad has (2000) the 210 S3 does 0-60 in 6.4sec. I would have thought this is fairly accurate, as they did the tests themselves i think.

The yellow one that had 240bhp for some odd reason?(A forum member purchased the presscar) Same story with the first Octavia vRS they road tested which had similar performance to a BMW 330Ci out the box!

The Audi book time for the S3 is 6.7 for 210 and 6.6 for the 225, so 6.4 with 240 would sound about right.

race between you two guys... :D
tuffty vs welly
0-60, 0-100 on private test track

To be fair that would be really good fun.

I know of a good private test track near the unit actually Bill. It's called test track A 38.

i really must get ibiza engine back together... :)
0-60 I will be toast but thereafter.... mua ha ha ha haaaaaaa

wasnt the 1.8kr more like 7.8 0-60, i could imagine a tuned kr lump getting down to about 7 sec's but not a standard one, plus the S3 has the abilty to put its power down, unlike the golf, it was easy enough to spin the wheels up in 2nd in my mk1 golf gti if you launched it

Ah, that would make sence! Wonder why they would use a higher powered one though...

most press cars are made to be better as the manufactures know there going to get thrashed and abused and they dont want bad write ups

4.7 from the Hybrid Welly? Christ that's a difference and a half!

To be fair dude, the turbo is only part of it. The raised limiter allows me to hit 60 in 2nd, where as that's not possible with the stock limiter. The 1 less gear change makes a big difference.

Mk1 chopper, yer thats the book time for the kr lump. Cannot find the video, think it was top gear or fifth gear, but they raced a newer engined one with 20k miles on it vs one with like 80k on it and the older engine blew it away, with a 0-60 of just over 7 secs.

Just too much money keeping it insured and together lol!
