Another hybrid conversion thread....

OK, so copying Tuffty :)whistle2:) I have also booked the first week of Feb off, well the 1st to the 4th.

Planning to do everything in that time, WMI, catch tank, manifold and the subframe.

That's a day each job, but there is no way the catch tank will take a day. We hope.

That is going to be a busy week.... lol.

Well, the WMI kit arrived, finally.

Looks good as well, really pleased with it for £90. Bargain.

The dude who used it before has it all wired up wrong, so stripped back all the looms he has made and redid it properly. Then took it outside to test :)

That was entertaining...

Anyway, looking forward to getting this fitted.

I keep looking at the WMI kits, but I'm yet to hear of anyone fitting one to a ko3S car. think it probably best wait until I've got a hybrid!

Looking good welly. I think after all this work you owe yourself some decent suspension and brakes, then throw it round a track!

Need to change my plugs again as well. These Bosch Super 4s just aren't up to the hiding I give them to be fair... :(

Huh, Ive got super 4's in mine, how long have they been in?

About 4K now I think, I can't really remember. But they do get thrashed. Might just be a duff one, or it could be a pack breaking down. Slight misfire occasionally, and it doesn't feel like a coil based one (having had extensive experience with these lol). Happened before, and a change of plugs resolved the problem.

I've got a set of BKR7Es at home, so will sling them in and see what happens. If the problem goes away, then happy days.

Anyway, a bit about this WMI kit.

It's pretty damn simple to be fair. The whole thing consists of a pump (150 PSI), relay for power management, a boost fed switch, the injector (which I will most likely replace), and inline filter and a tank.

The switch is pretty basic, but it will do for initial testing. Simple enough, once it hits x amount of boost, it turns the pump on. This isn't a progressive controller, but I plan to fit the Devil's Own one once I have got a loom for it - so it will do for now.

Basically, this is the simplified wiring diagram for it:

Very nice welly, good to see your getting some progression with this project of yours. Looking forward to seeing some good results when all running and tested

Welly sorry, you might of mentioned this but I cant find it in your thread - which stage CR turbo did you fit? My K04 is getting picked up today to go to CR for hybrid conversion and trying to figure out which stage to go for and what people have gone for on here?

Mine is a version 1 CR hybrid. However, what a version 1 CR turbo actually comprises seems to vary massively to be fair....

hmmm i see what you mean. When i spoke to them on the phone they said people usually go for stage 2 hybrid (£595 plus the dreaded) which is what I said to go for. what the details are, im not sure. I havent heard anything apart from good reports of them so I have every faith.

I'm pretty sure it's a stage 4:
Modified compressor housing inlet, C.N.C re-profiled compressor cover for high flow
compressor, 2283 Spec “Billet Aluminium” Lightweight Compressor Wheel. modified
seal plate, 360 degree thrust bearing, K04 Large trim left hand thread turbine wheel with
lightening of turbine wheel for faster ‘spool up’, C.N.C. modified turbine housing for
higher flow, up-rated twin turbine seals, 0.8 Bar up-rated actuator. Other ‘blueprinting’
modifications. APPROX 340-360 BHP Max recommended boost pressure 24-26 PSI.

See look, now I understand what you mean.

Sorry, yes it was the equivalent of the JBS 05, and the Turbo Dynamics K04 Stage 4 Hybrid.

However CR now have a version 1 and version 2 turbo. This is due to issues experienced with some cars with surging.

Anyway.... Changed plugs over last night to the BKR7Es and I must say, the engine feels much more responsive. It could just be the placebo effect, however I was seeing an extra 2 or so G/S over what I have been lately.

Found the cause of the misfire, the plugs were OK, however the top bit (the metal conductor from the coil) has unscrewed itself. Checked all 4 of the plugs, and all of them were loose, so wasn't impressed with that to be fair. Also checked my old set of super 4s that wwere in the garage and they were the same. Super 4 users beware.

I quote Bill with regard to the plugs: "one good spark is better than 4 bits of a spark".

As usual I am inclined to agree. I will be sticking to the NGKs from now on.

stage 2 - very well thought thru kit for the money.
smooth pump control, output functions to use to kill boost when level sensor (std) activates, decent sized bottle, 3 nozzles, test button, sufficient length to go rear pump, front nozzle

best kit I have seen/used thus far (includes aquamist, snow, devils own)

AEM superb. bravo them!

hybrid k03 ibiza dyno'd after this install, allowed 8.25 degrees more timing. AIT's no more than 19'C from 1.6bar boost peak run after run after run... 283bhp

I'm going to look to change to some slightly colder plugs once I have used these 7Es

The Stock plug is a 6E, so your already one grade colder as it is. I doubt it'll run well on 8's, unless you've got a BAT conversion your keeping secret.

May have to look to upgrade to one of these to be fair - my kit I have here is far more rudimentary than that... but good for trialling.

My missus's parents bought it for me for Christmas - which was really appreciated actually...

still undecided on which to order,

What number BKR7E'S do we need for our 1.8t's? There seems to be a few variations.
