Got a week in Feb booked off at work so I can take the head of (again! although not as many times as Welly yet... lol) and port out the wastegate to sort the boost creep issue and fit the new VVT cam chain tensioner I bought... good a good deal on a new unit from ebay, it does appear to be a pattern part but looks very good quality... cost me £99 vs nearly £300 for an OEM and thats at prices I can get them for!!

Not going to be doing much else to the car until I have done this bit of work... I do plan to revisit my FMIC as I think I have out grown it but Bill and I are hopefully planning to do some tests to check pressure drop across the core and then using the FMIC off his race car (or similar) to see if there is any difference etc...

Whatever happens I will be looking for a larger core and maybe look at tweaking the design a bit... I will be popping over the AH to discuss this further March time I think..

Had a late night at the workshop tonight fitting an AEM WMI kit to an Ibiza... very impressive kit, looks way better than the Devils Own with a 200psi pump and a feature rich controller... will keep an eye on that kit for mine I think...

As the roads were quiet on the way home I thought I would use the Liquid gauge for another go at a 0-60 time... I need to get grippier tyres I think as there was a bit of wheel spin (I have fairly new tyres on the rears) but pleased with the result so far considering the mapping not finished and the old girl isn't putting out her final power output...

Might have a go at the 0-100 time... when I can find a suitable private road of course ;P

Will update when I have sorted the turbo out...

The one I bought was from a different seller as he bought it and didn't use it but the same bit of kit is available from this link albeit shipped from China... Bill bought one though and it arrived pretty quickly... its exactly the same as mine...

is it just me being silly, or can you almost see the boost creep in the 0-60 curve Paul? the curve noticably lifts towards the end of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

Epic time though. I wonder that it'd be like at 26psi with some R888's?

Think its more my dodgy gear changing as it drops off spool a tad... the car feels like its thinking about giving the power then just does :)

Might have to find that out ;P

Wheelspin was only in first gear mind... no spin in second and third... just grip++

Thanks mate... home stretch now... maybe... or maybe WMI and a large port SEM inlet mani... then I'll stop... on the S3 at least lol...

<tuffty/>

Yeah, you must be very pleased with what you've achieved.

I'm hoping that I'll get a chance to be a passenger sometime soon :friends:

Was considering looking for a rear ended Mk4 golf 1.9tdi to do the transplant tbh...the Mk2 is my daily runner now, partially due to petrol costs (not that the S3 is thirsty in the way a V8 is) and mostly as I want to keep the miles off the S3 as I do around 1000 miles a month on average...

A mapped TDi lump in a Mk2 shell with Mk4 clocks etc appeals despite being the fuel of the devil as it gives me something to build, still has the classic Mk2 looks and is primarily economical... that said a 1.4 16v from a polo would be easier... there is no rush as she is good enough as is for now but I like to keep my options open ;P

<tuffty/>

Definately will, do it :eyebrows:

Would consider it if I hadn't just had the original Triumph 1500 lump re-built etc 20 miles ago!

WIN.

You been sniffing brake cleaner again....LOL

considering people are dropping the 1.9's into caddys all the time, it must be identical to fit into a mk2 golf? Would be an awesome way to go for daily driving, but changing details with DVLA is a PITA! I did a conversion on an old escort van and was difficult to get anybody to inspect it. Although im sure bill would help you out in that department.

And consider its fairly easy to get 210bhp from a pd lump, could be a right shifter, albeit leaving a smoke screen behind.

I must say, Your 0-60 time exceeded my expectations! thats nuts

I think Tuffty's S3 hits 60 in 2nd gear, hence the very low time. I know my stage1 does 0-60 in 5.9 requiring 3rd gear according to GTI Inters timing gear.

The higher rev limit does help yes... 0-60 times are kinda iffy at best on VAG 6 speeders anyway as the gear ratios are silly short... 0-100 would be more meaningful as I would have gone through 4 gears to get there... will find a private road sometime soon and try it ;P

I am convinced I can get the time down with more grip... first gear just span for the first second then launched the car forward when they found grip... by which time I had hit the limiter and had to grab second... first and second gear is over very quickly with this power and ***** ratios... when I get around (and get the money of course) to do a pre-emptive gearbox rebuild I may look into sorting the ratios out to be better... I have the power to use them... Bills first gear in his Ibiza race car hits 85mph at the rev limit!...

<tuffty/>

85.... In first gear?! That is just ridiculous!!!!

And jojo, 5.9 with 2 gear changes, that's ****** good, you must be sh1t hot at changing. You should have you rev limit raised and then see, prob another half second easy.

no wonder jojo has the record for gearbox bangs :)

Impressive tuffty, will wider tyres help?

Warm grippy ones rather than cold not so grippy ones would be a start... gonna look into tyres and wheels in the spring as I need a new pair for the RSTT's which in turn need a refurb so may just do it all together and get some better tyres for the summer as I have a set of Avus's I am refurbing for winter tyres to complement the snow tyres/wheels I already have...

The Hancook RS2's look good value for money and seem to have good write ups...

Not really mate, under 6 secs seems standard for a stage1 remap, but if the S3 was geared to hit 60 in 2nd, I guess it would have been under or around 6 secs out the box! But that would have been as quick as an S4 on paper, which Audi wouldn't allow. Same thing with e S3 having 210 in the first place, as to make the TT the quicker car ath the time of sale, it's all marketing!

Paul, take a look at Federal 595 RS-R's if you're considering RS2's. These were the two I've been choosing between for the A3, but after a bit of research, it seems that the RS2's are more suited to a lightish car, whereas the heavier cars (M3's and such like) seem to work really well with the Federals.

There's also a set of half worn R888's in 225/40/18 on SCN at the moment for about £100. probably anout 90mins down the M5 from you
