It's new tyre time again and EVO put Contisportcontact 3s at the top in last years test. Has anyone got them who can compare them to Eagle F1s maybe?

The F1s are great tyres no doubt but I'm only just managing to squeeze 13k miles out of them whereas I got 23k from the factory fitted Bridgestones. As 99% of my driving is M4/M25/M1 uber grip is not really my priority.

Any other suggestions? I'm tempted to go back to the Bridgestones too

Its nice to see you posting again Leon :rockwoot::arco::wub::anbet:

Why ?? was he banned,

I have been running conti 3s for the last 6 months and they have been great even in the /snow but its not long enough to say whether they outlast F1's ( which i have been using for the last 3 years.)

My guess is they will be fine but whether they are worth the extra money ??

That said i only got 12k out of a set of the straight cut F1's in fact one of them failed and the banding buckled after half that mileage. I did however get nearly 18k out of the Asymmetric 's

How much did you pay for them? I've found them for £460 a set delivered.

I have them Leon, they're pretty good actually, far better than the Bridgestones in terms of wet weather grip, not sure about dry, can't make my mind up. I've not had F1s on the S3 but had them (Non-Ays) on a previous 4WD and they were very good in the wet. I'd say the Contis are somewhere between the 2...generally speaking..

How many miles do you think you might get from them? Or is it too early to tell?

I got contact 3's. After 3 set of Goodyear F1's which I swear by I decided to try out contact 3's on a recommendation from the guy who does my alignment on both cars (centre gravity). Done 2k miles in them now and I will not go for any other tyre again.

They are much better than the goodyears, they give alot more feedback and grip levels are very high. The road noise is also lower.

I got a set of 4 fitted for £480.

Which F1s were you using out of interest?

I bought a new set of S3 alloys off a guy and the conti's were the std fit so cant help with price staz. I have only done 4-5k on them so far but they still look like new but then its been winter driving bla bla.. The 3.2 is putting a little more weight on the fronts with cornering and braking and i tended to get more miles out of the rears but then i always change as a set, swapping them front back about half way through.
At a guess i would expect to be getting 15k+ out of the conti 3's

Have to agree with Robin, the road noise is far less with the conti's and its not just the new tyre effect as they are still quiet after 5k

only had my Audi 2 weeks, but had a pair of these fitted on the front for when i picked it up....
Seem very good. and i agree quiet.

Ive now had two times ive had to jam the brakes on and no skid at all.

Yup those are the ones. Very good tyres indeed but rate the conti's jus that bit better.

Even in the wet?

I've not had F1s since the first version so it's been a long while, I just remember being blown away by them at the time, i'm guessing other tyres have caught on the act. Either way, I agree, the Conti 3 are nice tyres to drive with, not surprised the ratings they've been getting elsewhere.

Iv run a few sets of contisports contact 3s on a few cars. Awesome tyres I think! Fitted as standard to alot of cars. Seems to give of minimal road noise and very grippy, also fairly good in the wet I think! only downside is that a set never seemed to last any longer than 12k but thats not mway miles. Also the tread pattern looks awesome with it's wide grooves.

Staz,

You seen these? CONTINENTAL TYRES / CAR / CONTINENTAL SPORT CONTACT 3 CONTISPORTCONTACT 3 - 225/40R18 92W XL FR TL :: £112.70 :: Car Tyres - MPV Tyres - People Carrier Tyres - 18" :: R18" - 225/40/18, 225/40 R 18 ::

92 XL - only thing being they are W (168) and not Y (186) - not that matters a great deal in th UK. I am sure you could negotiate F&B at a local place for some beer tokens.

I am on my second set of Asymmetrics after running CSCII - the Goodyears are great but as you have identified, they wear reletively quickly (less than 8k/11k on my last set). I will go CSC5P or III when these run out.

In Cheshire, back street tyre place I always use.

Aha a bit far for me lol

Okay, motorway miles should improve on that hopefully, thanks.

Yep that's where I'm looking at ordering from dude. I noticed they were Ws and not Ys but as my fastest ever speed was 165 I should be okay! lol Plus I'm not in Germany anymore so I've slowed down a lot in general.

My Bridgestones had to put up with Autobahn blasts at 140+, a trip to the 'Ring and then Bedford Autodrome yet still managed to last nearly twice as long as the Goodyears which have just been UK only and no trackdays. I can't really justify spending £500 that often for not a lot of benefit.

I had the sport contact 2s (lasted almost 15k miles) and now got the contact 3s on my s3. The 3s are quieter than the 2s and if I had to choose would also say they have better grip/handling. I have not tried any other tyres but for what it's worth I would recommend them for sure and if I were buying again would choose the same tyre for myself

Well that's enough for me mate, thanks!

Can i recommend Michelin Exaltos, my current set has done 18k (of motorway miles) and still has 4.5mm left, bit pricey though.

On my missus' A6 we had Michelin Pilot Sport 2's on it and they lasted longer than the Conti 3's we replaced them with, so we went back to Michelin last time. The fronts are due for change now and the Michelin's are 10% more than Conti's (fitted) but I reckon they last more than 10% longer so work out as better value for money than the cheaper Conti's. The Michelins are a great tyre IMO.

Conti 3's great tyres. I have used them on my S3 8L, S3 8P and now I am on Pilot Sport 3's. Honestly, I cannot tell which ones are better. Steering response is better on the PS3. However, I have a preference for CS3's.

I have Conti 3's, really good tyres, perform well in the rain, snow and I would definitely go with them again!

Slighty off topic... does mis-matching tyres matter?

Was cleaning my car yesterday and did the first wheel, looked at the tyre and saw it said Conti 3 on. Excellent i thought but on the other 3 there all conti 2's!

Well they say you should have the same tread on an axle and others say with 4WD all 4 should be the same, I'm a little sceptical of that though.

Thats what i've always thought.

I'm guessing that CS 3 tyre was a replacement due to puncture/damage and wherever they went before i got the car was all they had? Are Conti still making the 2's?

Have to say like another poster in this thread says that the tread pattern looks way better with the wider groves on the Conti 3's.

Yea you still get contact 2s, went tyre shopping yesterday for a full set, but got frightened off by the price of contisports. So went for pirelli pzero rossos. Seems planted enough. Reviews don't seem to good but I'm one to question some peoples judgement. I find it hard to believe top brand manufacturers would make a 'bad tyre'
