Turbo Whine?

Just boght a 2006 2.0tdi ex fleet with 96K on it.

Drives just fine but when iddling and you give it a few revs you can here a whine noise which increases and decreases with the revs, is this normal?

Not always - mine has done it for 12 months and has not got any worse.

I just used the words 'turbo whine' and it came up with 99 threads !

Thanks for that, seems quite a few others say the same thing, the car flys and am very happy with it, last serviced 4k ago by Audi, so hopefully this is just a 'characteristic'.

with them miles on clock mate the turbos going to have had some hammer,sounds like its on its way out.might last 12month...might last 12 hours.matter of time before it goes pop!

my old turbo lasted 12 months and three weeks and decided to fill the exhaust with oil. Some might last for ever but some wont!

A couple of the 2.0tdi company cars at work have gone well past 200k on the original turbo, so I still believe it will not necessarily go provided you avoid a remap.
