S3 Mirrors...

Hi guys,
Im new to this forum and just learning my way around. Sorry if you get asked this all the time but, whats the score with the chrome mirrors on the S3s? Are they chrome or polished metal? Are they actually a full mirror or just a cover? Reason i ask is, we just bought a 2000 S3 and were told it had the optional extra chrome mirrors. Having never owned an Audi before and never really looking at one close up, its taken us a few days to realise that ours just has stick on chrome covers on the mirrors?? Surely this isnt right? If not, where can i get the real thing and how much are they roughly??

They are solid polished alluminium. Not sure if they are available from Audi anymore. Might just be the aluminium coated plastic ones these days. Sometimes ones come up for sale on here or perhaps ebay (possibly stolen).

The original mirrors are solid metal, very expensive, and stolen at an alarming rate to probably reappear on eBay.

I think you're better off without them.

yeah i had heard they get stolen all the time. i really really like the look of them though what do people think of the covers you can get? are they considered really chavy? wouldnt mind some to get the look without the cost if they got stolen.

If you do have/get genuine mirrors put them on for show only, it ain't a nice when you wake up, walk to your car and see wires dangling and damage to your door

I had genuine a couple of years ago but they got stolen. Went to the scrap yard got a pair of audi mirror covers and sprayed them silver, they look real to the untrained eye lol

my S3 has some covers on them at the moment but they arent a good cover. they look like cheap, nasty stick ons lol. are the type of covers you can get on ebay any good?

Does anyone have a pic of the stick on ones? I currently have the chrome covered InPro one on the car, which actually looks pretty good with the Brilliant black paint.

I hear what every one say here and the reality is MOSt people would love to have those original solid ally mirrors. Even second hand your probably looking at least £150, i've even seen a pair go for well over £200.
Anything else just aspires to be a wannabe......

You can still get the genuine polished aluminium ones from Audi. I had to buy one as one got damaged and I paid a little over £300 for a complete unit a couple of years ago. And yes.....there was no glass included!
