Ok so I have two questions...

1. If I insure my car for an aftermarket air filter, forge dv 007p and a new exhaust / manifold and then remove it back to the original OEM part (say the air filter) am I still covered?

2. Why did declaring my modifications reduce my annual quote by £68

1. I've always wondered that, I would have thought you'd still be insured, don't see why not... like they will cancel your insurance if they don't see a Jetex air filter under the bonnet? :uhm:

2. They see you as an enthusiast maybe? So more than likely to make more of an effort to look after/drive your car.

Wow decreased your insurance, good news for you! I have admiral recently phoned them about adding lowered suspension, was expecting them to add 100s after stories i heard about it adding a lot... but actually very good, only £25! great news!

Im with aviva and they are useless.

9/10 times you are put through to someone who knows nothing about cars and have to try and explain what lowering springs are for 25 minutes!

For the sake of 10mm over my standard suspension i just dont think im going to bother, the eibach 30mms look identical to the ****** s-line suspension anyway!

haha thats the problem mainstream insurers have no idea what they are!
Which is why i was so surprised with admiral!
Surely if you are investing in the car with mods you will be looking after the car i.e. not wanting to crashing or claim!
Makes sense to charge very little for mods IMO!

1) you'd propbably be best letting them know

2) a few insurers find their claim stats are better with modified cars.

have you tried a specialist like us?

Car Club Insurance Scheme from Sky Insurance

Unfortunately in the event of any claim Admiral and many other insurers will NOT replace your aftermarket parts. They will only replace with standard equipment.

It's one of my criterea when taking out insurance that modifications are covered on a like for like basis in the evnt of a claim. This does limit my choice of insurer but I want quality of cover rather than a cheap quote.

Oranoco - who else covers modified parts on a like for like basis? I'm with Highway through Greenlight & they also do, but when it comes to renewal time it's good to know who's around with decent cover to ask.

Much appreciated...

I wish I could worry about things like that :( unfortunately I have to multi-car policy with my mum and her cooper S as it is; otherwise my quotes are all above 2.5K so the cheapest is the one I'll buy. Currently working 2 jobs ontop of being a student to keep it legally on the road !!!

Sky (think you can poke about on here for the number as they sponsor this iirc), HIC 08451 290 290 are a couple. Worth doing some digging about mate. Ironically I find the more modifications I add the cheaper my policy seems to get.

I tried Sky and they were great at getting back to me and they know their stuff. Like for like on mods etc. However £780 was the best price they could do, where as Flux did the same cover for £480, like for like, protected NCB etc.

I would deffo recommend declaring mods as there was a memebr on here not long ago had a failed claim due to non declared suspension mods, and they didn't even know it had been modded iirc

Cheers - I tried Sky on my std car before I modded up. They didn't return my call & they were £300 out when I called them again. It's always a lottery though, so I'll try them again at renewal time...

Adrian flux are very good for modded cars, they know what you are on about when you tell them the mods.

i agree been with flux for 1 year knew exactly what mods i was on about just renwed mine as sky wouldnt insure me due to the area i lived in to many car crimes i aint seen 1 yet and lived here for 14 years.

1yr no claims unlimited millage windscreen cover and breakdown cover all for £176 per month for 10 months i thought not bad and all modifications i do are covered and replaced like for like as long as i have the recipts to prove the price and i have bought them which i do
