Running veggie oil on ma 2001 tdi non pd

Hi

As above, just wandering if its safe. To run veggie oil without any modifications to the fuel system, looking to only run a 3 part diesel to 2 part veggie just to bring ma bill down.

Any info appreciated

Thanks for the link but im not wanting to run straight veg oil but a mixture of mostly diesel

If its a PD engine, then forget it.

If its a VE Rotary Pump then you may get away with it, subject to sufficient fuel heating etc.

Your allowed to legally use 2000L a year without paying tax on it from what i've heard, although that may only apply to biodiesel you've made yourself rather than SVO you've baught from Tesco.

The other point is that is it really worth the risk for the cost savings?

If you've got a steady supply of used oil for free, and have build yourself a biodiesel processor then great, run it neat and save some money.

But mixing dino (at say 1.30 a litre) with veg oil (at say £1 a litre) at a 50:50 ratio means your paying £1.15 a litre to fill the car, a saving of £7.50 a tank. Ok its something, but is it really worth the hassle of having to lug vats of veg oil around, plus the money you have to invest in fuel heaters, especially when combined with the risk that the fuel will damage the engine.

Well ill be using used veg oil all filtered and de watered at a cost of £0.50 a litre with a 3 part diesel and 2 part veg oil ma fuel bill will be down to about a £1 a litre

No way would i be putting waste oil in my engine, it may be filtered, but you've no idea what crap is in the oil itself, it will be full of fatty acids and suchlike which occur as natrual byproducts of cooking.

Your right i could have worded it better. If it was converted to bio diesel it would go through the same filtering process so would still have all the fatty acids init.

I had been using the same stuff in ma 306 d turbo for 40000 miles with no problems, i was just asking on here if anyone else had done something similar
