hi dudes and dudettes im going to be buying some coilovers in the next few weeks and just was wondering what they are like to live with every day on 18's, are the comfortable enough to have all year round and also what do the tyres wear like on the inside edges as on previous cars they wore on the inside edges quickly etc..
cheers
fran

Yes, I wish there wasn't such a coilover phobia. It will ride MUCH better than stock and give you more of a desired ride height, what brand you looking for? Budget?

yeah i know what you mean mate as the stock suspension on my sport is not exactly comfortable lol id be more comfortable riding along the road on my bare **** haha , yeah i was looking at some of the ones on ebay for around £200 - £300 somewhere around that price range as money is tightish at the mo but im going to spoil myself for a change + my car needs lowering baddly its like being in a 4+4

As said coilovers will always get my vote over springs. As Nate said much better ride than stock and gives you a desired height. Obviously if you dont want to slam it just drop her 45mm or 50mm and chill:happy:
I'm free sunday if you want to come for a drive in mine

Ok no worries, I'd recommend V-Maxx, Weitec etc, eBay coilovers, you might as well ride around on your ****.

:lmfao: too funny.

haha n8 has got such a way with words hasnt he lol , i know what your saying tho comfort is a very important thing as i use the car everyday for work and the roads around cardiff are shocking as ash will tell you

I use FK Silverline. The handling is great! The comfort is extremely much better than stock dampers with lowering springs.

If I must compare the comfort of my coils to anything, it must be the BMW 1-Series M-sport. It's like the BMW, but a bit stiffer.

Can I ask a noob question? What do coilovers do? Do they fit around your normal suspension or replace it?

they are about the same as my stock sport suspension lol if it is like that then thats ok i expect it to be firm but not over the top but kw coils are out of my price range at the minute

they replace it they are coil springs over the struts or dampers which ever you call them much better handling and as n8 and a few others have said better comfort

He has haha. Yeah once lowered stay out of Tremorfa and Splott. There speed bumps are not meant for cars to go over. Just to stop the thieving b@st@rds that stole the cars from going any where lol! Ohh and stay away from Windsor Quay (Grangetown) there speed bumps in the estates take the p*ss never taken my car down there again lol! St.Mellons we got four speed bumps but they are not too bad:happy:

F.A.O N8 : once i get my coilovers just a little question what will my tyres wear like as per normal ?? the reason i ask is because my old car was lowered and the tyres used to wear like crazy on the inside edge

I listened to N8 :rockwoot: I was going to go air ride but couldn't justify £2000+ on it so decided to go for coilovers. At the end of the day you get what you pay for the more your willing to spend the better the ride and handling you will get.

I went for KW V3's there the most expensive but the ride quality and handling is loads better than standard. I'm sitting about half way down on these at the moment but I'm going full drop in a couple of weeks.

What's all this about being able to sort out camber issues by having your tracking done? The roof on my house is leaking a bit...will it stop if I get a conservatory put in? ;)

I spoke to my local independent Audi specialist about coilovers yesterday, and he recommended little other than Bilstein. Whilst part of me accepts that he will want to sell expensive goods, I also know that going with the likes of Bilstein guarantees excellent build quality, ride quality, and handling. Anyone who recommends them clearly isn't ignorant of handling upgrades, but they do cost a fair old whack. I had been looking at Weitec Hicon GTs, but have a lot more shopping around to do before settling on a final decision. I do know how terrible cheap coilovers can be, having been in friends' cars before. My Gaz Gold coilovers were brilliant - extremely versatile with little more than a twiddle of the damping adjustors, so hopefully I can find a similarly impressive setup for my Audi :)

Anyone got any upper-end coilovers, £700+? Any comments on handling and ride comfort?

I think this thread is making my mind up about getting coilovers. In my old seat Leon I had lowered springs 40mm and didn't upgrade shocks, it drove like a bitch!
The thing is that I do a fair bit of motorway driving mainly oop north....if I got coilies it would defenetly not affect the comfort of the ride? I don't want a bumpy back breaking drive.
Also another noob question but I've always wanted to find out....how do you adjust the height on the coilies, is it a 5 min job?

My worry was the same I'd had cheap coilovers on a Fabia VRS my wife owned and it was like being in an orange cart giving me a bad back so was very suspect about going that route again but i have to say since owning my KW's the ride quality is better than standard.

Thanks for your input, yet another thing on my to do list!!

if money was no object then i would get some eibach coilovers or similar but money is tightish so im going for v-maxx as they are in the middle somewhere untill i get some more money then i'll be investing in some better coilovers and i know what people are going to say why dont you save up a bit longer well i want to get my car lowered now for the summer i dont want to drive round in a 4x4 audi a3 lol im also saving up for a nice set of 19's too but might get a set of reps till ive got enough money to buy some bbs rims its all about money at the mo

Eibach are *****, Chris had a bad experience with V-Maxx but then that was a skoda, as mentioned above I've experienced them in an audi and they are spot on.
