I've got a choice between 3 used cars - all of similar spec. One has open sky.

What are peoples opinions on this?
If you've got it, do you like it - would you have it again?

The car with the open sky is Lava Grey if that influences your thoughts at all

Thanks
Jon

I would avoid at all cost. Looks good inside and outside but it's given me nothing but trouble. + you need to carry all the extra weight of that huge pieces of glass and mechanism around. + it lowers the height of the cabin substantially. So, for me, definitely NO

It makes your head hot as well, well mine anyway cos its top is thinning down a tad nowadays !!!!!!!!!!!!!

i would, definitely. my parent's Merc has the pan roof and now i think any car that can have it as an option MUST have the box ticked.

Bit of a divided opinion there!

Got any more pics of yours ben so I can see what it looks like with Lava Grey?

Mine only 3door Jon. But if i had a sportback i'd have to have it. I think it would look pretty good on a lava grey sportback aswell.

i'd have it! looks good on lighter colours by providing a nice contrast.

However if buying new, like most sportback owners, I dont think its worth the cash as its only really 2 sunroofs rather than a full glass roof like in other cars

Also there are a few reports of them dveloping rattles

Just had a look at some pics of your car Ben. Lava Grey looks really good, the pics in the advert for the car I'm looking at really don't show it off well. Looks very similar to my Gunmetal Elise.

Think I'd have to get some black edition twinspokes on it pretty quick though!

no my cup of tea but would be nice in the summer don't like the look it has on lighter cars got a sort of euro black vinyl black wrapped roof look to it

that's what i like about it!

the best looking A3 i've ever seen was a 56 reg 3.2 quattro SB S-Line in Misano Red with Open Sky. i was still driving my 1.6 at the time, and i had to change my underwear

now i'm a TFSI boy i'd never ever dream of owning a 3.2*

*yes i would, but supposedly i'm meant to hate them because i drive a 2.0T

Aw cheers Jon. Got a link to the cars your looking at? And photos of the Elise.
I do love the colour of the black edition alloys:wub:

I love the look of my misano red SB with Open Sky roof - the contrast of the black roof against the shiny red paintwork is great!

Looks the business with the DRL's and zenons on too!

anyway on the open sky roof its a defo yes from me we had a ibis white 2.0 tdi170 s-line sportback in work and it look the dogs dangly bits if it wasnt so much i would have bought it , it was stunning with bbs ch wheels on it

You'd be mad not to have Open Sky if you have a choice, you'll regret it when the sun comes out properly in the next few months. Remember this is a £1,500 option and is rare.

Have a look at the later pictures on my TDI S3 Hybrid Facelift 2010 (PIC HEAVY) thread.

i agree with paul on sprint blue the best is chrome grill and silver alloys dont think dark colours would look right on it but either way it would look sexy with a open sky roof

Agree.
Pretty much every other colour suits optics though.

i used to think the same - but a member on here has an S3 Sprint with black details and it looks

yeah but in my opinion phantom black doesnt either too much of one colour they need chrome on them , vw passat's in black look top becasuse they have chrome around the windows and that looks awesome on black in my opinion

Cant get the link to work properly but basically it's the most expensive 3.2 DSG on the Autotrader site.

I'm after a 3.2 S-line DSG SB with as many toys as pos but this car is on for £14K at the moment which is too much I think. I know it's a £30K car but with the way petrol prices are going I can see this being very tricky to sell on in 2-3 years time, probably get £6K for it then?

I've been keeping my eye on the Autotrader site and it seems that these cars sell really slowly and most are high spec so there's no rush, plus I managed to badly break my right wrist a few weeks back which required surgery so I won't be driving anything for a few months - so I can afford to wait!

Jon

About to get our 3rd with Open Sky.. Priceless... Enough said!
