I reckon they only built the RS3 as a last horah.

There should be 2 pipes - one on either side (oval shape). Looks good though, but wouldnt have it over a tt!

God help us....TG is very amusing at times, but Clarkson will waste endless amounts of time trying to hang the tail out and light up the tyres,as opposed to actually driving it and seeing what it can do.

None of that will get around the cost at well into the £40k bracket with options, and the fact that it's a bit overweight....why wasn't it a 3 door!

Looks like a 1.8T SB to me.....with a max power special grill.

And .............If you wanted to show its sporting credentials why oh why would you take it out on sheet ice !!!! I despair sometimes !!

That's so Clarkson can hang the tail out....which he may not be able to do otherwise...!

and worst of all, it's turbocharged, has FSI and isn't a V6! what's the world coming to :p

Hold on sub...I think paddy has a good point. Take back that poxy comment. There is a time and place for them..and that's the S3 threads.

i'm just messing with him lol. i'd have a 3.2 in a heartbeat. in fact considering how bad the fuel economy is on my 2.0T i kinda wish i'd gotten one instead of my current motor

Nothing to do with your right foot then.

well it was to do with my tyre pressures at first - it's picked up a bit since i sorted that. i brimmed the tank just before the VAT increase and i've gotten about 320mi out of it so far. fuel light's come on but it's not hit reserve yet so i think that's pretty good going

I do like that RS but I agree with most, they gave up on the design when it came to the rear. It needs two ovals pipes, one either side like the rest of the RS range.

Nice to see Ford have taken a step back with the new Focus, not a fan!

The RS3 DOESNT have the recaro buckets as standard whats that all about?!! not a fan of either

Hey Sub
It goes without saying it needed a V6 lump, probabl;y the S4 engine would have done it but lets face it, for £50k it does look incredibly like a bog std SB !!

RS3 looks too ordinary.
The Focus looks like a Korean effort at making a Euro box.

Its all a bit "yawn" isnt it?

Maybe look better in a different colour. Also coming standard with wheels that are generic to the S3 and black edition doesnt help. A non car enthusiast wouldn struggle to tell the difference and for 40k I'd want everyone to know about it!

TBH I think the RS3 is going to get seven shades of sh*t kicked out of it by the BMW 1-series M Coupe, which seems to have the measure of it in pretty much every regard and will be far superior drive.

but it's ugly as sin, which matters when you're spending £45k on a car, and it's far less practical. therefore i think the TT is perhaps a more direct comparison.

1-Series vs. TT-RS i'd pick the TT-RS no question because of the way it looks, tho i'd have a Cayman over both of them lol.

RS3 vs. 1-Series i'd have the RS3, tho in reality i probably wouldn't buy either of them.

they should have put the oval tails on them it spoils the RS look of it , it just looks like a S3 to me and for that money there are alot more cars out there that can give you the same thrill cayman , focus rs is a posibility too ,ttrs ,used rs4 , used nissan gtr the list goes on but still i would chose the audi it just needs to be more like the 3 door pics i have see with the wide arch's oval tailpipes etc...

bang on! :applaus:

Well yeah, leaving aside the issue of the TT-RS or the multitude of other cards I'd rather spend £45k+ on, the 1-series M Coupe is the direct competitor to the RS3 so let's consider those two for the moment.

Have to say, much as I love the A3 and Audis in general, the 1-series looks far better compared to the "standard" 1-series than does the RS3. The Beemer actually looks very nice considering I find the standard 1-series rather bland. The RS3 just looks like an S3 with an aftermarket bodykit on it to be brutally honest.

strange that for BM, i have been looking at the 135i and think it looks too much like any 118i....good to see BM have gone a bit further on the M

the clue is in your own statements. the 1-Series is a "Coupe". the RS3 clearly is not. therefore they're not necessarily directly comparable. if you read the Top Gear article Audi themselves don't see the 1-Series M as a direct rival either (although granted there may be a marketing reason behind that).

i'm not disagreeing that the RS3 is a lot of money for what it is, i just think that the same applies to the 1-Series.

The 1-series and A3 are competitors in general, therefore the highest-performing derivative of each are competitors, plus they cost almost exactly the same.

I'm sure Audi will try to claim the 1-series isn't a competitor, especially when, as I predict, all the reviews say it's a much better car :)

The RS3 is possibly the most utterly pointless car I've laid eyes on in the last decade. Yes, I am including the X6 :p :D

I can think of quite a few utterly pointless cars that sell in the millions :)
